I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley so in exchange I’m providing an honest review.

I loved this book. Thanh is brutally honest about her life, which can’t be easy with the experiences she has lived through. Thanh is engaging and real while sharing tales of homelessness (both as a youth and an adult), mental illness, working in the sex trade, and dealing in drugs. But she’s also relatable, like when she speaks to the love of her children, wondering if she’s messing her kids up, relationship issues, and self-image and self-esteem issues.

It just goes to show, regardless of our background, we often share certain feelings and experiences. We can relate to each other’s stories, regardless of our socioeconomic status. Keep this in mind next time you see someone down on their luck, someone on the street, or someone who needs a hand up. You could have a family member, a friend, or even a successful colleague that has had these types challenges in their life, but at some point they turned things around; though likely not without the help of others.
