Something Read Something Dead is the fifth cozy in the Lighthouse Library mystery series by Eva Gates. I've read many of these cozies and they continue to be well written with great local characters and of course the fabulous lighthouse setting. What I believe is done well with this series is the repeated introduction of new characters (who unfortunately are the victims). These characters are seamlessly introduced in a way that makes sense and doesn't feel like a gimmick. In this story, the introduction of grandmother Gloria, and the “Louisiana Mafia” certainly livened up the story and made way for a very interested mystery. Eva Gates is a very good mystery writer and I will continue to read myself and recommend to our patrons when they are looking for good cozy mysteries.

I haven't read any of this series before and didn't realize it was the 5th in the series. my small town library didn't have any of the previous books so i had to just jump right in without any prior knowledge of what has happened in the series. Luckily this seems to be like a side plot to the actual books as it is revolving around the cousin of the usual person (at least i think so, again, couldn't read the first 4 books).

I always enjoy books involving books, or libraries, just kind of a 4th wall breakage type thing that makes me more invested in the story.

This is a great series. It takes place in a lighthouse/library on North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
Lucy Richardson and her friends are helping her cousin, Josie O'Malley, plan a "simple" wedding.
Josie's grandmother comes to visit intending to take control of Jose's "grand" wedding.
Lucy decides to host a bridal shower at the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library. Everything goes as planned until Josie's cousin is killed and Josie is the main suspect.

What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.

This is the 5th book in the Lighthouse Library Mystery, and I have read others, but not in order. I recommend reading them in order as there were things in this book that were given away as I read book 6 before this one. I very much enjoy Eva Gates writing and this is one series, I have tried to keep up with. Lucy Richardson is our protagonist in this series. She lives in the lighthouse that houses the library and is quite happy to live and work there with library cat Charles. In this story her cousin and friend Josie is getting married. She and her fiancé want a small, cozy wedding, but her rich, southern matron grandmother has other plans. She shows up with cousins in tow who also happen to be wedding planners. They turn all the planning upside down and when one of the cousins dies from drug poisoning, Lucy works tirelessly to prove that her friend is not responsible. While all this is going on, the lighthouse is undergoing issues with structural damages coming with a high price tag for repairs.

I do enjoy the setting of Nags Head NC. with its quaint village, stores and yes a lighthouse library. The characters are great, even the secondary ones. Lucy makes a great protagonist. She is smart, intuitive, great solving puzzles, friendly, caring and independent. There is just enough humour in the story to keep me smiling. The mystery is well developed with a few suspects and some twists along the way. Another great addition to this series.

I love all the Lighthouse Library mysteries by Eva Gates and this one did not disappoint. In this 5th book of the series, Lucy is planning a bridal party for her cousin Josie and of course, it turns into a culinary mystery with the arrival of Josie's grandmother and cousin, Mirabelle.

I absolutely love the Lighthouse Library series and every book is fantastic. Each book is filled with wonderful character interations, a plausible murder mystery, and a fantastic and breathtaking setting (at least in my mind, anyway). I love the anticipation the author creates with the death of Mirabelle and the indication that it was Josie and her treats. Knowing Josie didn’t do anything, I loved trying to figure out who did what to the treats without anyone noticing. The mystery of the death of Mirabelle so much to the story. There are so many potential suspects it becomes hard to narrow the list down to any one person. Means, motive, opportunity, lack of alibi all plague those who made it to the list.

As per my reviews of the other books in the series, I love the setting, the characters, and the mysteries in each. Lucy is a wonderful character. She may come from money, but she doesn't act like it or flaunt her family's riches. Her character is down-to-earth and likeable. I love Charlene's obsession of rap music and her passion for wanting to share. I enjoy her slow and chaste relationship with Connor. They are sweet together, yet you are able to feel their chemistry. The secondary characters are unique in their own way and believable. Oh, and how could I forget about Charles?! The library cat is a delightful addition to the cast.

The story is well paced, enjoyable, and full of suspense, anticipation, joy, and redemption. The author did a wonderful job describing the characters and scenery within the book. I was able to visualize the story as it played out. Something Read, Something Dead is a fantastic cozy mystery and addition to the Lighthouse Library series.

The Outer Banks. A lighthouse. A library. A wedding. And a murder. Add together for the fifth in this enjoyable cozy series. Lucy's cousin and friend, Josie's plans for a small intimate wedding are threatened by Gloria, her formidable grandmother with assistance from an obnoxious would be event planner. But Mirabelle turns up dead before her plans could be implemented and Josie and up in the crosshairs. Interesting characters, especially Gloria.

I loved how this book was about Josie and Jake, and included Josie's dad's side of the family from Louisiana. Lucy and the Lighthouse Library did play a big part in it but they were not the main story line. I love the characters, the library, Charles the library cat, and the Outer Banks setting. The mystery was interesting and I did not see the ending coming. This series continues to keep me guessing on what will happen next. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Another great mystery from Eva Gates, in this case taking on both a relative's wedding and foundation problems at the library.

When a wedding is not so perfect planned.
It is the first book I have read of this serie and I have enjoyed with its reading. It’s perfect to spend a fun time because you are expectating to know who is the culprit until the last chapter.

In Nags Head, North Carolina Josie and Jake’s plans for a small, intimate, and inexpensive wedding go awry when the family matriarch, Grandma Gloria -an aging Southern belle, shows up from New Orleans with a couple of the bride’s female relatives in tow and begins an all-out effort to scuttle couples plans and replace them with what she believes is a more fitting lavish affair that the beleaguered couple can ill afford. Both bride and groom are involved in start up businesses, he a restaurant and she a bakery, and want to save every penny they can to invest in their respective ventures .

The second major plot involves Lucy Richardson, cousin to the bride and the librarian at the local lighthouse/library who is facing a few potential employment and housing issues of her own – all while running interference between Josie and the “New Orleans horde” in an attempt to keep the peace and see to it that the wedding Josie planned is the one that takes place.

What ensues are the antics of a colorful cast of characters confronting a plethora of family issues and personal problems, while dealing with murder, attempted murder and a few other near catastrophic events.

I have enjoyed all the books in this series, the idea of a library in a lighthouse just sounds wonderful.

Lucy's much beloved cousin is getting married, but instead of the small intimate wedding she has dreamed about, her grandmother is determined to make it the wedding of the year. When Josie's obnoxious cousin ends up dead, Josie's business and wedding may be destroyed.

I have loved getting to know all the characters in this series and I hope Ms. Gates can continue to give us many more adventures.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Lucy's cousin is getting married but things are not going so well when her Grandmother shows up wanting to run the show and brings along a group of relatives, one of them being Mirabelle who along with Florence think they are going to be the wedding planners.

Then Mirabelle ends up dead and Lucy's cousin is the prime suspect so Lucy has to put on her sleuthing cap and figure out what happened as Mirabelle wasn't the nicest person.

I always enjoy my time with this series and love Lucy and the others and the mysteries are always well done.

Eva Gates, who also writes as Vicki Delany, delights with Lighthouse Library mysteries, including Something Read, Something Dead. Lucy Richardson, librarian who lives in an apartment at the top of a lighthouse which also houses the Bodie Lighthouse Library. Josie her friend who is engaged is overwhelmed by the interference of her family in wedding preparations and then a relative is murdered and Josie is implicated. Lots of red herrings and twisty turns in the plot. Read and enjoy.

Something Read, Something Dead by Eva Gates is the fifth book in the Lighthouse Library Mystery series. Library employee Lucy is busy helping her cousin Josie plan a small simple wedding. Things take a swift turn when Josie's grandmother and other relatives arrive with plans for the wedding event of the year. Josie's cousin Mirabelle threatens to ruin Josie's simple wedding and maybe even still Josie's fiance. When Mirabelle is murdered Josie is the obvious suspect. The characters are strong and mesh well together. I thoroughly enjoyed the setting and the mystery. I do not remember reading any previous books in this series, but I had no problem following this one.

Title: Something Read, Something Dead

Author: Eva Gates

Series: Lighthouse Library Mystery book 5

Chapters: 28

Pages: 320

Genre: Cozy Mystery

Rating: 4 stars

Something Read, Something Dead is the fifth book in the Lighthouse Library Series by Eva Gates. Lucy Richardson thought that she was just going to be planning her cousin's wedding. Instead she finds herself trying to solve a murder and clear her cousin's name. Otherwise there's not going to be wedding.
Just like the first books in the series I love the library set in a lighthouse along with the resident cat Charles, every library needs a cat and ever cozy mystery heroines needs a sidekick. Charles the cat happens to be Lucy's. Even with this being book five in the series the mysteries still have a mystery to them. Leaving the reader guessing till the last chapter who the bad guy is.
I do recommend reading this books in order even though each mystery is a standalone, you lose the character and relationship development if you read them out of order. These books are perfect for anyone who loves cozy mysteries, cats, and libraries.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

Something Read Something Dead is the first book I've read in the Lighthouse Library series. There 4 books before this one that I haven't read, but I don't feel like I missed out on too much. At least not to the extent that I couldn't enjoy this book. I really like the protagonist, Lucy Richardson. She's very relatable and I feel like I was given enough details about the character to get an accurate picture of who she is. I enjoyed the puzzle that the murder mystery presented and I honestly wished it had lasted a little longer. I'm going to go back and read the other books in this series, as well as the next one.

Note: I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book. All opinions expressed in the review are my own.

This was a fun cozy mystery, my first read, though 5th in the Lighthouse Library series. I loved the idea of a library in a lighthouse. It gave a warm fun feeling to imagine the entire setting.

Librarian Lucy's cousin was getting married and in the hoopla, one of the planners Mirabelle dropped dead. And Lucy investigated

The story moved at a swift pace with lots of humor. The characters were all different and very sweet. Grandma Gloria was really overbearing, I wanted someone to tell her to chill. The author Eva Gates's writing was smooth, with all the scenes in the mystery settling well. The author kept me guessing till the end about the murderer.

Overall a fun fast read
