This was a wonderful book. I gathered a lot of information and helpful ideas from the author. It is an encouraging book; one that most women should read.

Best book I have read on Biblical womanhood. Abigail Dobbs asks some challenging questions. This book is filled with Biblical truths about womanhood. I felt like the author was writing as a friend looking in and giving me the push and hope that I need.

I am inclined to agree very closely with Abigail Dodd's views on what the Bible is calling Christian women to be. I believe she gives a very full, robust, nuanced complimentarian view and I appreciated it. That said, this is not a book for those who aren't already familiar with this position. The book does not engage in lengthy, comprehensive arguments to convince the reader of why this position is correct. It does give short arguments, which for a reader already coming from the author's position will likely be review.

After this defense of the book's stance, the book continues by showing what a Christian woman looks like in various parts of her life. Often I appreciated these pictures - the sections on mothering and suffering were especially strong and I would love to read more by the author on these topics. However there were times when I found the use of the Scriptures in these portraits puzzling. At one point the book says that the biblical commands for women to make their homes a prime focus make sense because we have wombs which are the homes for new lives. It's an interesting idea, but the Bible nowhere grounds female calling in female anatomy. There are a couple of other similarly puzzling pieces of exegesis. That said, despite some verses that made little sense to me I appreciated that there was a lot of Scripture in this book. Any book that seeks to describe Scripture's view on a topic should have a lot of the Bible in it, and this one does.

I would recommend this book for women who have been bashed over the head by narrow views of women's roles and who are looking for a bigger picture. I'd recommend it for conservative Christian teens struggling to get a picture of what life as a woman might be. I wouldn't recommend it as a go-to resource for egalitarian women who want to engage the other side - the interaction with opposing viewpoints is simply too slight.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

May you find your deepest delight in being what He made you and being found in the One who saved you. There is more joy to unearth and more good to unleash and more comfort to take hold in the Savior who dwells inside you than this finite fallen world can contain. May you, no matter your circumstance or condition, unashamedly receive the gift of being a Christian woman.

Christ, be with me.
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me
Christ beneath me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ where I lie,
Christ where I sit,
Christ where I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that see me
Christ in every ear that hears me.

With the issues of gender identity roles, sexuality, and the church, it can be a confusing time. I hope young Christian women will take hold of this book and taste and see that the Lord is good. That he created you as woman in his image. Maybe you have a misconception of what submission is or maybe you see the bible as sexist. When read in context, there is more much more and Abigail Dodds brings the context to light.

The bible does not say that that wives need to be the June Cleaver but it does say we need to cleave to Him and his word. The bible has many strong women that fought, that stood for righteousness, and knew the God of Israel. It is important that we do not see God in our story but we see Him in his story of redemption. I highly recommend.

A Special Thank you to Crossway Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

(A)Typical Woman is an in-depth study into what it means to be a Christian woman and how we bear the image of God. I appreciate the amount of Scripture used in this book to back up her arguments! I look forward to reading more from this author.

This is a great book about Gospel-centered womanhood! The author speaks truth without being legalistic. There's such freedom in her words about mothering, marriage, single living, working life and more. I was so inspired to start living life rooted in Christ!

This book is simply fantastic. I have many books on the subject of Biblical womanhood and many either glorify womanhood excessively or belittle it. However this book truly gets back to scripture to discuss what the role of a woman really is. So often in Churches there are so many man made 'rules' as to what women can and cant do however this book constantly looks to scripture in all areas of a women's life, including married, single and working. I found chapter 16 particularly encouraging and thought provoking where the author discusses our freedom in Christ. She comments "free women who do good works out of the freedom they have in Christ to enjoy life in Christ with their work." A must read for all those who constantly try to live up to the idea of being the perfect Christian women and for anyone who wants to know what the Bible really has to say on Biblical Womanhood. A MUST read!
