Mary Burton - you are an awesome writer! I love, love these stories, and this one doesn't disappoint in any way! There is, as always a frisson of attraction between the protagonists, which adds to the tension arising from the main thrilling story. Read it, its a must!

I received a free copy of this book from Net Gallery and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Mary Burton has done it again! Her newest thriller, Hide and Seek, is a page – turner. Once you start reading this book, you will have trouble putting it down.

One of the main characters, Special Agent Macy Crowe, is an FBI agent who had just returned to work after a hit-and-run accident had almost killed her. She had wanted to return to work early, but they had already refilled her position. So she was sent to work at a desk in the technical area.

Mike Nevada, the other main character, is a former FBI agent. He is now the sheriff in the small town of Deep Run, Virginia where he grew up. Unfortunately, Sheriff Nevada has uncovered a serial killer.

Macy has been sent to help him solve this case. In the past, Nevada had often worked with Macy at the FBI. Also, before he had resigned from the FBI, he and Macy were involved in a short affair. However, they had mutually agreed to end it with no bitterness.

The action in this book starts immediately in the Prologue where we meet the unidentified serial killer at work. At that time, and throughout the book, the author allows readers into his mind so we can see his thoughts.

In fact, Macy and Nevada are not introduced until Chapter 4. At that point, the book becomes an FBI procedural as we watch Nevada and Macy interview people who had known the victims. As they begin their investigation, they hunt for clues that will help them solve this difficult case. We also get to look into their minds as they try to brainstorm ideas.

Eventually the killer continues to kidnap women as he continually attempts to throw Macy and Nevada off his scent. Meanwhile, Nevada and Macy race to find the killer before he kidnaps and kills other women. At this point, the author fills this book with lots of action, and twists and turns, in order to keep the reader guessing as we try to figure out who the killer is.

This thriller grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let up until the last chapter. Because of this, I highly recommend this book.

Hide and Seek is a MUST READ!!! I can guarantee that you will NOT want to put this book down once you open the book. I absolutely LOVED this story. Mary is a AMAZING writer, she writes the book in a way that makes you feel as though your right there working with the FBI....and sherif, deputy. Your watching (you literally feel like your sitting with the characters) the characters, victims and perpetrator....if you never read a Mary Burton book, what are you waiting for? I’m pretty good at “guessing” who “did it”. This book, I guessed the wrong person. In my opinion, that’s VERY IMPRESSIVE!!! It’s not normal for me not to guess who it was. The fact that Mary can stump me....she’s a GREAT writer. Ok peeps, if you don’t read this book, well, your loss. You WILL regret not reading this one day. It’s a PERFECT story. Mary also writes in such a way that the ENTIRE book is believable...GREAT WRITER!!! Ok happy reading!!! Enjoy!!! :))

Hide and Seek by Mary Burton is the first book in a new series. It's about a female FBI agent who has been injured and is trying to come back as a profiler. She's looking into a string of attacks. The new sheriff is a former FBI agent and love interest of hers. He looks into the crimes and discovers that the DNA samples are a mess which leaves him wondering what else about the investigation is that way.
This is an awesome start to a new series. It's fast paced and nail bitey. I can't wait for the next installment.

M/F Thriller Romance
Triggers: Murder, Rape, Stalking.

Macy is at it again. This is a fast-paced read with a chilling trail of bodies that Macy has to follow.

Mike is the new sheriff and he has big shoes to fill. But what won him the spot was the fact that the previous sheriff was a "good ole' boy" who was more worried about keeping the people he lived around happy than solving crimes. He grew too complacent and when Mike saw the mess that the DNA testing kits were in, he knew he had to step up and get things done.

This is a town where nothing ever happens. It's quiet, almost sleepy. But when bones are found, it starts down a path where Macy and Mike will have to follow. There are people who prejudge and people who just want to bury their heads and believe that nothing bad can ever happen.

I really enjoyed how this book played out. There was a decent storyline when it came to Macy and Mike, although I thought that they lacked some chemistry. But since they had some history, that helped. Overall, this is a fantastic start to a new series and I can't wait for more.

This is an excellent story about an injured FBI investigator who is desperately trying to get back into the field after she was the victim of a hit and run accident that almost killed her. Macy Crow is good at her job and she refuses to let her injury make her less so. When an opportunity comes along to rejoin a task force, even on a trial basis, she jumps at the chance. Even if it puts her in Mike Nevada's path.

Sheriff Mike Nevada is a former FBI agent who left the agency to become sheriff in his hometown. When bones of a long dead missing teenager are found, and the DNA matches that of a unknown rapist, he knows he needs a lot more help than what his small department can offer.

Mike has been worried about Macy since the accident and having her in town is a boon he can't resist. He knows Macy and knows that she is an excellent agent and he has no doubt that she can help him solve the mystery of who's behind the murders. And he's hopeful that he can persuade her to give their romance another go.

I really enjoyed the story, the characters, and the mystery surrounding the disappearance of the girls around the area.

Hide and Seek is the first book in Mary Burton’s new Criminal Profiler series. FBI Agent Macy Crow has appeared in a previous book by Burton but you do not have to have read it to read this series. Macy is recovering from injuries sustained in a hit and run and wants to join the profiler team. She is sent to a small town where Sheriff Nevada, previously her lover, is investigating the recently discovered remains of missing teen, which appears to be connected to the rapes of three teenagers in the same year.

This story is told from multiple points of view including that of the killer. I actually found the killer’s point of view quite creepy. Seeing him stalk and attack these teenagers and knowing he has been getting away with it for so long was disconcerting because he made it look easy.

It was absorbing reading Macy and Nevada’s methodical hunt for the killer, connecting the dots. Seeing various crimes of the past being connected so many years later because the sheriff at the time didn’t do his job properly had my blood boiling, although it helped knowing Macy would likely catch the killer. There are different suspects and a bit of misdirection that kept me on my toes but when the killer’s identity is revealed it is expected.

I’m a big fan of romantic suspense stories and Mary Burton can always be counted on to provide a good, engaging story. In this case, the romance plays a minor role, but I get the feeling we will see more of it in future stories. I thoroughly enjoyed Hide and Seek and I look forward to reading more of this series.

Mary Burton never disappoints but this might be my favourite of her books yet. I loved Macy Crow when we first met her in Cut and Run and she’s even more compelling in this story. Desperate to earn a place on an FBI profiling team, Macy returns to work while she’s still healing from her accident. Called to investigate a murder in a small town, Macy works with local law enforcement to uncover twenty-year-old secrets.

Macy is fierce, independent, and oddly likeable. Macy isn’t quite as hard as she was at the start of Cut and Run and her new vulnerabilities bother her more than she’s willing to admit. I loved the contrasts in Macy. Just beneath her tough persona is a woman full of self-doubt. Her relationship with Sheriff Nevada, a former lover, is complicated by the fact that after her accident, Macy isn’t quite as content with her nomadic lifestyle and convenient hook-ups. I love Macy’s brain and I enjoyed solving the crimes alongside her.

I really enjoyed the way this story digs into small town secrets and the relationships between the small town characters. As an outsider, Macy observes and questions but can never seem to get close enough to the killer. In contrast, the local law enforcement officers are too close to the crimes to maintain objectivity. The result is a complicated, challenging, and fast-paced murder mystery.

I feel like the romance is the weakest part of this book. I don’t mind because the murder mystery stands on its own easily and I love the characters. But Nevada and Macy’s relationship is a little bit too messy for an easy happily ever after and Macy is at her best when she’s a tough, independent hero. I feel like the romance aspect of this story compromises some of Macy’s identity. I actually found the platonic relationship between Macy and Brooke more interesting and I loved the interactions between the two women.

One little moan – this is marketed as the first book in a new series, but it is a direct sequel to Cut and Run. Any reader wanting to understand Macy will need to have read Cut and Run first. Once again, it really annoys me when authors and publishers don’t make the connections between series clear to readers.

In Mary Burton's Hide and Seek, the first installment in the Criminal Profiler romantic suspense series, this series debut will send you goosebumps and chills from start to finish. It all started for Special Agent Macy Crow when she was assigned to Deep Run, Virginia, with the Tobi Turner case. Macy has been a survivor and had beaten the odds when she had been a victim of a hit-and-run accident on a previous case. Although Macy's parentage comes from a dark secreted past, when she was born from her rape and her mother was killed and later adopted with her twin sister. But that didn't stop her from getting the job done. In Deep Run, she's reunited with Sheriff Mike Nevada, a former lover of hers, on a serious case. When the corpse was found of missing teenager Tobi Turner's remains inside of an old barn, it was the start of everything in her investigation of what happened to her. And that had lead her to the shocking cases of untested rape kits and more missing persons case that bare the similar criteria to the case around the Washington D.C area. And now with another missing person reported, it was up to Macy and Nevada to see if it fits the same profile of this perp to connect the present. The closer they deep into the dark truth of the Deep Run Dream Team football team and the deep secrets they kept hidden from others. When she had found she had figured it out, it all comes to ahead when she faced the killer/rapist dead on with the fight for her life.

Hide and Seek is part of the Criminal Profiler series, centering on Special Agent Macy Crow. We first met Macy in the previous book Cut and Run, when she was the victim of a hit and run by a serial killer--and she also found out she has a twin sister Faith. In Hide and Seek, Macy teams up with former lover and local sheriff Mike Nevada after finding the bones of a girl who'd gone missing 15 years prior. This book was absolutely awesome. I love all of Mary Burtons books, but this series is really one of the better ones. Fast paced action and a second chance for love, I highly recommend reading not only this but the previous books as well. Can't wait for the next one!

I picked up this book because I like criminal profiling. I'm fascinated with how well you can get an inside in somebody's personality and appearance by "just" being observant. So, my hopes where high and boy, did I NOT get disappointed. Great story with believable characters. Can't wait for book "2.

Special Agent Macy Crow has to prove herself after an accident to join in the FBI’s most elite team, Behavioral Analyst Unit. She is handed a 15 year old missing person case of Tobi Turner whose bones were recently found. Macy works with local Sheriff Mike Nevada to solve the case when she finds a link between the rapes in the past and Tobi Turner’s murder. Can Macy and Mike race against time to find answers and stop this maniac before someone else gets hurt?

Hide and Seek by Mary Burton is the first book in Criminal Profiler series. I enjoy reading Mary Burton’s books and this one did not disappoint .A well written fast paced plot , with interesting characters made in an enjoyable read though I would suggest reading Cut and Run first to understand the backstories of the characters.

I would like to thank Montlake Romance & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

4.25 Hearts Another great story from Burton. This is a new series from Burton so if you have not read any of her books yet this is a great one to start with.

Mike and Macy have a budding romance. Actually I should say a second chance at love. Having known each other before they kind of jump into the romance but it really is written well.

The suspense pretty much starts from page one. Tobi went missing 15 years ago but the remains are just discovered. The suspense kept me guessing. I had an idea but every time I thought I had it something changed my mind.

As I said… Another great story from Mary Burton!

Thanks to Netgalley and Montlake Romance for a digital galley in exchange for an honest review

First Mary Burton read and it certainly won't be my last! A police / FBI procedural with a dash of romance, Hide and Seek wasted no time in getting the action started. When the remains of local girl, Tobi Turner , who went missing in 2004 are discovered the local police call on the expertise of the FBI. I loved the characters especially Special Agent Macy Crow and Deputy Sheriff Bennett. She's fighting her own personal battles, but her dogged determination to get answers is what really won me over. As Macy and the local Sheriff , Mike Nevada(an ex lover) look into the case, they soon stumble upon additional information that indicates that this case may be bigger than they thought possible.

So why the 4 star? Well, as fine as the romance between Mike and Macy is over the course of the storyline. There was this one oddly placed steamy sex scene that pops up right in the middle of everything in the case being solved that distracted rather than drove the plot.

Overall, pulse pounding action and memorable characters make the Criminal Profiler series on my must watch list.

We met FBI agent Macy Crow in Cut and Run. She was an important character in that story even if she spent the majority of it unconscious and in the hospital. Well she survived and is now back in action and wants to regain her old position with the bureau and prove to everyone that she's ready for field duty. She's assigned to a sheriff that also happens to be her former lover prior to her injury. Mike Nevada left the FBI and successfully ran for the sheriff's position in the county that he grew up in. It's not far from Quantico but world's apart. When remains of a girl that has been missing for 15 years are found he calls his former colleagues at the FBI to send some assistance and when he is offered the ability to work with Macy again he jumps at the chance. Nevada knows that she's one of the best and also has wanted to see her again since they parted ways in Kansas City. Do not mistake this story for a love story. It isn't. Hide and Seek is a well written crime drama with a bit of romance intertwined. I enjoyed it thoroughly and was happy that the story was written from multiple perspectives. Mary Burton did an excellent job of keeping me riveted to the pages until the mystery was solved. I cannot wait to read what is coming next in this series.

Great book. Lots of twists. I thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong. Can't wait for the next one in the series.

Sheriff Mike Nevada, former FBI agent, recently won the election against a lone time sheriff that had a number of DNA evidence from rapes that he did not have analyzed. With the discovery of one of the missing women's dead body and other evidence, Mike Nevada calls in the FBI to assist with a serial killer investigation. Agent Crow is the FBI agent called in to assist. She and sheriff Mike have worked together and have been romantic involved. This novel will keep you guessing as the killer escalates and kidnaps a Deputy. A nail biting conclusion.

Mary Burton has been on my to read list for years. Hide and Seek was a great introduction to her. The start of a new series, this book centers on Macy, an FBI agent coming off of a life-threatening injury, and a case of a serial rapist/murderer in a small town. Sheriff Nevada heads up the investigation and Mary is brought in to assist. She and Nevada have a history and I am glad that while it was explored, it took the back burner to the crimes and mystery at hand.

I had my suspicions about who could be the perpetrator but Burton kept me on my toes and I was never quite sure. The scenes were just suspenseful and scary enough that I had to read them with the light on (and possibly check under my bed for red rope). I liked Macy as the main character and felt Nevada complemented her well. I thought both the characters and plot were well-developed. It makes me excited to see what comes next in this series.

Burton’s writing and story reminded me a lot of Lisa Gardner. I devoured Gardner’s books years ago so I am glad to have found another readable mystery author.

I received an advanced copy through Netgalley in return for an honest review.

Hide and Seek by Mary Burton
Criminal Profiler #1

As I started to read this book I had a feeling I had met Macy Crow before and yes, I had. She was in the book Cut and Run and in my review I hoped Macy would get a book of her own...and this was a perfect book for her to star in AND it seems she will be having more books in the future. I am now hoping that she and Mike Nevada will find a way to continue their relationship in the upcoming series.

This book has Macy back on the job after a horrific hit and run accident that nearly killed her. She has been working a desk job but is eager to get back in the field so when given five days to try to tie up a case she is eager to get back in the saddle. The local sheriff happens to be a man she was in a short relationship before and they reconnect but there reconnection is not the main part of this book. No, this is the story of the search for a serial rapist and murderer and how Macy and Mike go about finally smoking him out.

What I liked:
* Macy’s strength – physical and mental
* Mike’s willingness to let Macy work but also his wanting to help her if/when he can
* The way the story is slowly revealed
* The calls from Macy’s twin sister
* The scritch scratching dreams Macy had – a bit of the paranormal creeping in
* The way Mike and Macy reevaluate what is important in life
* And a lot more!

What I did not like:
* Ex-sheriff Green and what he didn’t do that he should have done
* The bad guy(s) – totally unlikable – just as they were meant to be
* The fact that good people end up dead – but – if they didn’t die we wouldn’t have great romantic suspense novels to read so...am just glad they are fictitious characters biting the dust.

I am definitely eager to read more in this series and can’t wait for book two to come out!

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for the ARC – This is my honest review.

How good are Mary Burton's books? Let me put it this way. When I finished reading Hide and Seek (in one sitting) at 10:00 PM, I was so deeply invested in Macy that I had to know what had happened to her before Hide and Seek began. I immediately bought, downloaded, and began reading Cut and Run, the 2019 RITA® finalist in which Macy's story begins. I was unable to put it down. I finished it at 3:00 AM. That's how good Burton is.

One of Mary Burton's many talents is creating intriguing, relatable characters. I was drawn to Macy from the first pages of this book and the more I learned about her the more invested I became in her success and happiness. But Macy wasn't the only character for whom I was cheering. There's Nevada, the man with whom she shares a past and, possibly, a future. He's one of the good guys and I adored him. They have sizzling chemistry in the bedroom but are equally well matched in the office, working together as a team, with trust and respect. I love when a couple has each other's backs.

It isn't only the main characters where Burton focuses her character-building strength. There are several secondary characters who are fully developed, engaging my emotions in both positive and negative directions. As good as the author is at creating protagonists who win me over, she's equally adept at creating villains who are pure evil. But, even more fun for this reader, she weaves characters in and out of her stories in such a way that rarely do I figure out who the real villain is until she chooses to reveal them. I'm pretty good at solving mysteries so when an author can keep me guessing until she chooses to tell me who it is, you can bet I'll return again and again each time she releases a new book.

Hide and Seek is a terrific book on its own, however, I do believe you'll have a greater appreciation for Macy's character with the understanding that comes from reading her twin sister Faith's book, Cut and Run, first. Both novels earned an enthusiastic 5 stars from me.
