Loved this book!! The mystery and characters were amazing. I was excited about the protagonists since they appeared in previous books. The mystery was chilling sometimes & it was painful to think that a crime remained hidden for 15 years just because some people were in denial or too blind. I guessed about halfway who the villain was but there were many twists and turns that you couldn't put it down. The ending was good but I wish there was an epilogue!

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC! This was my first ARC and though I loved it, there were missing/blank parts/paragraphs on 6 different pages (112, 113, 129, 156, 249, 250) that really bummed me. Due to that missing texts I lost some important parts of the storyline.

Mike Nevada used to work for the FBI for 15 years, but now he is a county sheriff. He never believed he would be in a small town on a farm and being a sheriff no less. He gets a call from a contractor out at an old farm, that some bones were discovered, and they turn up being a bones from a high school girl Tobi Turner missing for over 15 years.
Special agent Maci Crow has survived a horrible hit and run accident and left for dead. Macy is back to work and she wants in on an elite profiling team. She gets sent to investigate what happened to Tobi and see if she is really ready to get back in the game.
Maci soon discovers that there were other incidents around the same time Tobi disappeared, and as she interviews victims from the cold cases she discovers there was a stalker, who then escalates into sexual attacks and then murder.

I was fortunate to receive this book as an Advance Reader Copy from Netgalley, in exchange for an objective review.

It’s November in the town of Deep River, VA, and a group of men are preparing to tear down an old barn. As they work, a piece of the loft breaks, and a backpack comes spilling out of an old chute, accompanied by some bones, which they quickly realize are human.

Sheriff Mike Nevada is called to the scene. A retired FBI agent, he pursued the elected sheriff’s position as a protest against some mismanagement of evidence, never expecting to win. And now, they may be closer to solving a 15-year-old mystery – the disappearance of then teenager Tobi Turner, who was last seen in 2004.

Meanwhile, FBI Special Agent Macy Crow, returning to active duty after a hit and run accident that had almost took her life, is hoping to be assigned to an elite violent crimes squad. When interviewing with the team leader, he offers her a chance to join his team – but first she is sent to Deep Water, VA to assist Sheriff Nevada in the Tobi Turner investigation. And she’s also intrigued by another teen who went missing about the same time, who by all accounts ran away.

As Macy & Nevada work the case, it becomes increasingly clear that they are searching for a serial rapist turned murderer. As the investigation heats up, a new body is found, and VICAP identifies several other related cases. Was this the work of a stranger passing through – or is the perpetrator close by and planning to kill again??

This is the second book by Mary Burton that I’ve read recently, and I have LOVED them both. Great characters, great chemistry, and a great storyline that will keep you reading well into the night. I could not put this one down!! Awesome characters! I hope Macy & Nevada stick around for a while. I’d love to see a series!!

Mary Burton is one of those authors that you can always trust to deliver. She does this, yet again. This is a very fast-paced and suspenseful read. I really like the character of Macy. She was introduced in Cut and Run (another excellent read), but this would work as a standalone also. I can't thank NetGalley and the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this title!

This book appears to be a second book in the series, and can be read alone but made me want to read the first one. This book held my attention from the first page and I feel the building of suspense was timely and enjoyable. The story also lead to several possible suspects which is something I enjoy in a suspense thriller. I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Macy Crow is a FBI agent and she is anxious to get back in the field after a truck hit her because of a case she was working. Macy goes to Deep Run a swall town that has her ex-lover as a xeriff-Mike Nevada.
Mike is the new xeriff-he is an ex-FBI agent also. Mike want to setlle and Macy wants the action two different people who are trying to catch a rape serial killer and he lives in Deep Run.

The investigation begins because olds rape's kits was not tested by the old xeriff and Nevada is reopening the case, also Tobi's remains where discovered after 15 years of disappearance. Macy and Nevada start interviewing the victims and comparing bases about the killer in other places.

The investigation was well done but Macy's recovering may had slowed down the case. Thy were running in circles, why not investigate the Dream Team?? Why that took so long?? Seems old that some things were left out of it when actually was reallly important.

I did not get who was the killer, the way how the stalk his victims was really creep. But the conclusion and who was covering for him was not done well. It was poor executed and the abrupt ending was a cold shower.

Another enjoyable, light read from Mary Burton.
If you like a pleasant, easy read combining thriller and romance this book will hit the mark. Her plots can be a little thin at times and this book was no different, but still enjoyable as a light read. While reading the book it felt very familiar - I'm not sure if it's just that I've read so many books by Mary burton and it was the style that felt familar, but that detracted from it a little for me.

It was a hard for me to watch Macy physically struggle after following her character in the previous book. She’s a tuff cookie and listens to her instincts, even though she knows she’s taking a chance on her career at times. However, bringing justice to victims & survivors is more important to her and I respect the hell out of that!

I hope a book on Faith is next. I’m constantly looking forward to the next Mary Burton book!!

I received an ARC from Netgallery and am voluntarily giving my review.

This one is a nail biter and action packed with excitement. Macy and Nevada are in a race to find a long term serial killer before Agent Macy Crow becomes the next victim. So many lies make it difficult for Sheriff Mike Nevada and Macy to solve a case that goes back to when most of the potential suspects were in high school. I found myself taking breaks in order to calm down my excitement when I figured out the key players in this web of death. Great work by Mary Burton!

Loved Loved Loved this book. To be fair I love anything Mary Burton writes and this was no different. There was rape, asphyxiation but I felt it was handled appropriately and was very much a part of the story, I read this in one day, I kept waffling on who I thought it was, I was so thrilled to read about Macy Crow. This appears to be the start of a new series , yay again! But if your a true Mary Burton fan you have met Macy before, so some of the story was known, but it had to be shared for a first time reader. This was a novel that had it all for me, mystery, thriller, suspense, romance, tragedy, joy and hope. Thank you Montlake, thank you NetGalley and thank you Mary Burton for sharing your wonderful talent with us all. .

A killer evolves over fifteen years moving from city to city, state to state, and jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Sheriff Mike Nevada had help from Special Agent Macy Crow. She worked the bureau in a few states working high profile cases, but her specialty was human trafficking. Her body wasn’t physically ready for investigative work yet her mind was a terrible thing to waste when a killer was still out there. Macy wanted to prove she was still the agent she’d been before the accident. As the case progressed she began to doubt her efforts, yet she wanted to get back into the game.

This story had situations of rape, binding, and asphyxiation. Mary Burton didn’t go into too much detail regarding these situations, yet the scenes nonetheless were difficult to read.

Some of the transitions were hard to decipher with no clear notation made. An example was in chapter twelve where a past memory was mentioned, yet no indication was made. It would’ve been nice to have a different font to indicate the change in time as a reflection on these past memories. Several times there was a shift in dialogue with only a bullet point separating the dialogue.

As with most detective stories this one too was character driven by an endless array of suspects. The killer was easy to figure out. In my opinion I was less interested in determining who the killer was as I was interested in understanding why he committed the crime.

This is the first book in the criminal profile series and I’m not impressed. I can’t help comparing this story to episodes of CSI. It sounds too familiar with the way the FBI agents profile the killer. The small community of Deep Run of course is a place where everybody knows each other having grown up together therefore they protect each other and have secrets. It just wasn’t an original story in my opinion. Mary Burton wrote about the profiling from a basic standard level lending very little excitement.

I think this was the first time reading one of Mary Burton's book that I was cringing. I enjoyed the book and the characters but I didn't enjoy the retelling or description of the rape scene..But again that is my opinion. In ‘Hide and Seek’ we have the return of Macy Crow to her job where she works as a FBI rep since she had survived a hit and run. She is now trying to prove herself that she can be an agent, and back at work is the case of a missing teenager who has disappeared years ago. Then the suspense begins.

Thank you to #NetGalley for this ARC of #HideAndSeek

Mary Burton hits home with another great suspense novel in Hide and Seek. Burton proves her merit as a seasoned suspense author with her strong tendency for character driven narratives and perfectly paced plots. While the reader is ultimately rewarded with the all the twist, turns, and mystery expected for this genre, Burton, additionally provides a dynamic to the storyline that deepens the reader’s experience by exploring a broad range of the main character’s internal and external conflicts. In this installment, we find ourselves with a favorite character, Special Agent #MacyCrow as she helps hunt down a killer. But this time around, Macy has a lot more on her plate as she is struggling with the ramifications an attempt on her life has left behind. As she is dealing with PTSD, her career role has changed, and the physical alterations the accident left behind has affected her self image more than she cares to admit. The reader is taken on an introspective ride right along side Macy as she tries to redefine herself with the help of an old friend, Mike Nevada. Great Read. 5 stars.

If crime thrillers with a splash of romance is your thing then this book is for you. I have read many of Mary Burton's books and this one is as enjoyable as the previous books.
It follows Macy Crow (a character who appeared in a previous book Cut & Run - I would advise reading this first to get full background on Macy as previous events are referenced within this book) who is recovering from an almost fatal hit & run. As part of her rehabilitation back into work she is given the opportunity to work with an FBI profiling team on a murder case that is being investigated by an ex-colleague and old flame Sheriff Nevada.
The case centres around the discovery of the body of a teenage girl who disappeared without a trace over 10 years ago and appears to be linked to several sexual assaults and attempted murders in the Virginia area.
This was a very engaging read with some decent plot twists and the author done a great job of keeping the reader guessing about the identity of the culprit.
4.5 stars and I will look forward to the next book in what I hope is a series featuring Macy and friends.
Thanks to Netgalley UK, publishers and author for the ARC.
