A page turner about a bad seed child who is out to destroy a marriage and so much more. Janie is not the sweet child Christopher, the surgeon who cared for her when she was brought to the hospital, believes she is. This becomes increasingly clear to Hannah but what to do? Yes it must be said again and again-this book was one of the most disturbing and chilling books I have ever read. It was very well written and quite the page turner to see how it will possibly end. I thank Netalley and Thomas & Mercer for the opportunity to read and review this book.

The book perfectly illustrated why children in horror and thriller books are scary! But it also explores the human psyche of why. 5/5 stars!

This book was WILD! Short chapters, and alternating POVs, with a storyline that’ll make your head spin. Enjoyed everything about this book, though the ending seemed finish rather abruptly. Overall, a winner!

Lucinda Berry is an amazing author who absolutely captivates her readers with the most disturbing books I’ve ever read.
Christopher, a surgeon,and Hannah, a nurse are a happily married couple whose only disappointment in life is the absence of children. They have been considering the only options left open to them and have been scouring the internet for a suitable child to adopt.
A little girl with multiple injuries is brought into the Emergency Department under unusual circumstances and Christopher is brought in to operate on her broken bones. Surprisingly the two of them quickly become attached to each other and eventually Hannah is introduced to Janie and although Hannah has reservations, when it’s time for Janie to be released from the hospital they agree to foster her until a permanent home can be found.
Janie is an extremely disturbed child and her behaviour manifests into completely intolerable and manipulative ways aimed predominantly towards Hannah.
Very dark and disturbing but extremely addictive.

What a disturbing book!!!
Christopher and Hannah are a happily married surgeon and nurse, while it seems like they have everything they have one thing lacking and that is not being a parents!
Janie, an abandoned 6yr old is found in park, looks beaten up and seems like she was being treated really bad by her caretakers. Christopher, an ortho surgeon forms a bond with Janie and despite of warnings and red signals he insists on fostering slowly turns into permanent adoption.
While Janie is ok with Christopher, she clearly has an issue with Hannah, she tries all possible ways to trouble Hannah and keep her at bay!
Just when they think they have settled own and learnt to deal with Janie's behavior issues, Hannah and Christopher are expecting a child - this just scares Hannah furthermore as she knows Janie's behavior is just going to worsen.

I liked the characters, except when I found that Christopher was just being unreasonable that led to so many irreversible damage

You know how there are books that people just seem to latch onto and rave about and it's all you ever see talked about? One of those books that I had seen was The Perfect Child by Lucinda Berry. It is one I have had for a wee while and again kept meaning to read but after seeing it everywhere, I decided to push it to the top and read it. The book starts with a punch as we meet Piper who is a social worker talking to the police about a tragedy that occurred with someone called the Bauers and how she never saw it coming. As I try not to read reviews, I was going in this blind but knew a lot of people had raved about it. The scene then jumps to Hannah and Christopher Bauer who are both hospital workers and trying for a baby, their current solution is international adoption. That night, a little girl is brought into ED with extensive injuries and drenched in blood, she has also been starved and neglected badly. Later we find out more about the girl known as Janie and her situation. Christopher has taken a real shine to the girl and talks his wife into adopting her. The Bauers take her home and all seems to be going well until strange things start happening and Hannah realizes that Janie might not be this innocent little cherub everyone thinks she is. Things take a turn for the worse when Hannah falls pregnant and has a son called Cole and it looks like Janie will do anything and I mean ANYTHING to have Christopher all to herself even kill. The Perfect Child is a past/present novel and a fast-paced thriller that reminded me slightly of The Omen and The Exorcist but not as Horror-like. I am now looking forward to reading more of Lucinda Berry's thrillers.

I’ve heard good things about this authors books but unfortunately they’re just not for me. The ending felt incomplete and I was left wanting more. Good writing throughout but the ending fell flat.

I realized this wasn't a book that would work for me before I downloaded it. Clearing out my backlog of Archived, Not Downloaded.

This was a thriller like no other. Imagine finally getting your dream of having a child, but the child doesn't want anything to do with you, and starts playing mind games with you. This was a good read, can't wait for more by this author! Recommended.

I'm sorry but I couldn't get into this book. I tried a couple of times, but found it didn't hold my interest at all.
Unfortunately, not a book for me.

A very shocking, disturbing book, with themes of child abuse and animal cruelty. Very well written, and the characters are engaging. A hard read but very good.

This was creepy, disturbing and full of suspense for the first half. Then somewhere around the middle it started to go over the line of too disturbing and with too much detailing of animal abuse and hints of child abuse mixed in there. I found it hard to stomach and it took away from the plotline in my opinion. The ending was a complete let down and felt like there was no closure at all, it actually felt like there was a missing chapter or too by mistake. Overall, I enjoyed the premise and the way the chapters were broken down, though the delivery overall felt like something was missing.

This book is horrifying and disturbing...but in a way that I couldn’t put it down! I started this book a few times before and never got very far before putting it down and realizing that it wasn’t the right time for me to read the book. I’m glad I gave it another chance. It was far different than the type of story that I expected and completely not how I expected any of the story to go. I really struggled to feel any sympathy for the father but I felt all the emotions for the mother from the beginning. I didn’t like how the book ended though. I didn’t feel like it was a satisfying ending for the story, it felt like a cliff hanger or as if it was missing something.

This was creepy and disturbing, I was frustrated with the husband for not believing her, but it was a great read, although not one to relax and feel calm, that's for sure!

At first, I was reminded of the movie Orphan, but the book gets increasingly more disturbing as you go on, and THAT is right on the money for me!

Intense, disturbing and really creepy story . Well written in a good fastpaced, hard to put it down. I like to read a variety of genres but when I read thrillers I expect good ones, those that give you the chills and this book is all of that. I'm looking forward to read more books from the author. One of the best books I've read in this genre 2019. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity given to read it. The opinions are strictly of this servant.

This book is full on disturbing!
Christopher absolutely drive me up the wall! I wanted to reach inside the book and shake him.
Janie is by far the most creepy kid I’ve read about the things she done- just crazy!
I really sympathised with Hannah and what she went through when no one would believe her.

The author done an amazing job creating a disturbing atmosphere with infuriating characters that made me want to fling this book across the room! It’s not often I feel this way towards a book and I love it!
