James is a pastoral letter written by one deeply concerned with the spiritual well-being of the flock. It is a letter both of encouragement and rebuke; a practical challenge to encourage the godly to live up to their faith and a rebuke to the backsliders to return to a productive faith. It is a challenge to the Christian life, not just to profess it.


James as been called the New Testament version of Proverbs. A study on Christian living. What faith is and just as important what faith is not. We live a life of trials and how we overcome those trials reflect what our faith is made of. How faith and works go together and how they are lived out in the life the Christian.

The text goes thru the book of James and it is a treasure hunt of the value of God's word. How we deal with money and our attitude towards wealth. James is a study to open up our attitudes of not only money but doubt, faith, and what we put our hope in.

A book of true wisdom and true faith. True faith produces good works and true wisdom leads to Godly live-style. Faith that is grown in the word of God and fellowship with other believers. True wisdom in seeking God and his presence.

James is a valuable book for believers and this study gives a good grasp of being a follower of Christ. It is not easy and it is the working of our salvation that we can obtain a Godly lifestyle.

The author discusses the book of James. He defines what is meant by James in his letters. For instance, he notes the term trials (peirasmm) “often has two meanings “trials” and “temptations,” and “are closely related.

I particularly liked his overview of The Use of Prayer and Praise, 5:13-18. Prayer is always a mystery to me. After all, if God already knows my desires, why do I need to pray? In this portion, the author grabbed me with the first sentence: “The individual in trying circumstances may be tempted to complain against other believers or to break out in an impious oath, but the proper behavior is to turn to God.”

I found this book to be very easy to read. It flows and is packed with a plethora of information and knowledge. I highly recommend it.

This book takes the reader on an insightful trip into the book of James. This book was very helpful in my studies.

James is one of my favorite books of the Bible to study, and this commentary is one that you absolutely need if you are looking to go more in-depth into the study of James.

I love this series of commentaries. They are very concise and do a good job in regards to giving you a concise rundown of what the book is about. This is no exception. I am not familiar with the author but he does a great job with outlining what the letter of James is all about.

Definitely the in depth book to have if you are desiring a deeper knowledge of the Book of James. I found it to be informative complementary and worthwhile as I read James.

My goal for 2019 is to read the bible. Flipping through this book I can see that it will definitely help me to study and understand. I will be ordering these books for the branch library so that patrons will be able to study the Word too.

The author started by explaining the key themes and main topics talked about in james. He provided some background, an overview, and an outline of the letter. He then worked his way through jamesby focusing on the next topic in the letter.
