I was already hooked by the end of the first chapter and that's saying a lot because amnesia storylines aren't typically my favorite thing to read. My motivation to keep reading really boils down to there just seemed to be so many possibilities and directions this story could take which was intriguing. While I preferred the first half of the book over the second, overall this was one of those fun, popcorn eating reads.

Chloe Daniels regains consciousness and finds herself in the hospital but has no memory of how she got there or anything about her life. Even though she doesn't recognize the people who are claiming to be her family, she goes home with them as she begins the long road to recovery. As she struggles to remember, it seems like nobody is willing to provide answers.

The real strength of this book is the author didn't paint herself into a corner. In my opinion, you really couldn't narrow down the list of suspects until the very tail end of the book which is what kept the story interesting. I can't say I absolutely liked everything about the second half of the story or the conclusion, but I also didn't hate it. I just personally thought the first half was more of a 5 star enjoyment level whereas the second was more at a 3 stars. Overall, a good read and I would love to check out the author's previous novel.

When I saw this book available on NetGalley - I requested it without reading the synopsis. I have read Michelle Adams' previous book last year and was amazed by the writing style and most importantly by its plot twists. And I am happy to report that this book did not disappoint me one bit.

Michelle Adams does not waste any time. She throws the reader right in the middle of the action. We meet our main character Chloe during a fatal car accident. Days later she wakes up from a coma with no memory of her previous life. Freaky, I know. However, everyone underestimates our little fighter. As weeks go by, and countless therapy sessions, Chloe starts to suspect that her family is hiding something from her. After multiple unanswered questions, our fearless Chloe takes the matter into her own hands and goes out into an unfamiliar world to find the truth and answers about herself and people that surround her. However, who can she really trust and how can she avoid walking into a well-set trap.

A phenomenal story about survival, and trusting your own intuition. No one knows us better than ourselves. Michelle Adams has outdone herself. I can't wait for her next book. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press Pub for a free copy of the book.

Well written. Dark and twisted a crash that takes her son's life and her voyage of discovery to find the missing pieces in her memory. Her father's perfidy is a shocking betrayal.

Sunday afternoon I sat down to read and early Monday morning I finished Between the Lies. In other words the book was a nonstop read. From the amnesia where nothing is remembered by the main character Chloe Daniels to her acceptance of her family she doesn't know, the questions abound. Of course she would have to get her memory back, it's the story, but how was she going to get there? As Chloe starts to recover, learns terrifying events of those days she cannot remember, deals with her psychiatrist father, tries to understand her mother sister and even the help, and finds little lies seem to be a family habit that stalls her memory I kept diving for clues as how the psychological thriller would resolve all things for Chloe. The plot keeps you jumping to conclusions, you root for Chloe, you boo her family, and you yell to Chloe to protect herself. Between the Lies is a very satisfactory novel to keep your mind running through all possibilities and conclusions that will bring everything to and end, and you will hope it is satisfying to you.

I liked the premise of the book: amnesia is always scary and suspenseful, and a person who lost their memory and doesn't know whom to trust makes a good main character for a thriller.

What worked well was the slow peeling of the layers, with twists and turns revealed. The idea that memories are pliable and could be altered with medicinal drugs or under hypnosis made this a compelling read.

I would not recommend this book to people who prefer a fast-paced thriller, as much of the action unfolds within the protagonist's head.

Read the blurb to ensure you don't mind the subject matter, which may be too heartbreaking for some audiences.

Excellent psychological thriller that hooks you from the get go and won’t let you go until you’ve read every last page. I love books that make me think and this one had me analyzing everything trying to guess the outcome. Chloe was in an accident and had amnesia, she was brought to her parents home and remembered absolutely nothing about her old life. Soon she learns she can’t trust anyone around here and that the things she thinks she knows aren’t true. Through the book you experience pain, grief, Love etc with Chloe, I love how the emotion just draws you in deeper.

I also absolutely loved the little trick towards the end, you’re practically yelling through the pages at Chloe and then sigh in relief in the end

The author, Michelle Adams, did a wonderful job of describing the main character, Chloe’s, increasing uneasiness about living with her family after a tragic accident that leaves her in need of assistance. Because Chloe has amnesia and doesn’t remember anything about her life, she believes everything that her parents and sister tell her until little cracks in the story she is given start to appear. Are they protecting her? Or are they in some way trying to manipulate her for reasons that we cannot know, because Chloe doesn’t have any answers? There is also another voice that pops up occasionally; a boyfriend or her husband, who is upset with her. The accident may be his fault.

The book was well written, and I liked how the author kept leading me along, leaving me wanting answers as much as Chloe did. The characters were well described; I really got a feel for what motivated them, and the constant rain really added to the atmospheric feel of the book.

Overall, this is a good, solid story.

The book contains sex and some cursing.

Chloe Daniels may not remember her life, or how she came to be in a car crash, but she knows one thing for sure, she is very uncomfortable in her parents home, and they are not being honest with her about anything, She is supposedly there to recover after having been in a coma, yet she is treated more like a prisoner than family. The gate is kept locked and she is forbidden to leave the house. Her Psychiatrist father claims he wants to "help" her but why does she feel so much worse after their "sessions"? And what kind of doctor would treat his own daughter at home anyway. Something is very wrong in this home. When she finds a picture of herself wearing a wedding ring she confronts her father and demands to know why he didn't tell her she was married and from there the twists and turns get steeper and more dangerous.

Solid thriller that did not particularly move me. Others may find it more satisfying. Among the positives is that the story is driven by the fact that you want to find just what the main character Chloe' has forgotten due to her traumatic car crash. The negatives include that one does not feel any kind of connection to Chloe' or any of the fragmented characters in the story. Everyone is kept at arms length and I felt that all of the characters were unlikable in a different way. I would try another book by this author because it was not horrible-it just was not my cup of tea. The characters seemed as they were made out of cardboard and it really held me back from enjoying the book more.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read and review.

Well... Between the Lies... hmm where do I start with this one?

Chloe has amnesia and can't remember anything from her accident. She is struggling to understand her life and where she comes from. She is living with her parents and her sister trying to gain her memory back and get better.

I started off with getting annoyed with her parents. Her father was super controlling right off the bat with "protecting" her from doing anything trying to gain her memory back. This to me was a sign right away to the author pointing clues to the reveal (which come on was annoying).

The story was very predictable to me and a bit of a slow burn... which made it difficult for me to keep my attention focused on the story.

Additionally, the ending did not live up to the hype to me and of course I figured out who was involved with her accident/trauma before the reveal.

Overall, this wasn't really a memorable thriller to me and was a tad disappointed.
3 solid stars for me on this one.

Thrilling page turner with a good conclusion. I enjoyed the slow inflowing of the information and details that helped build towards the conclusion. The characters were developed enough in the fast paced story to keep one interested and understand their motivation. Generally a satisfying read that I would recommend.

I really didn’t want to read another book about an amnesiac woman trying to find out how she’d lost her memory but I’m glad I gave Between the Lies a chance. When Chloe Daniels wakes up in the hospital, she can’t remember anything, not even the strangers who call themselves her family. They seem to be trying to help her but they know everything about her when she remembers nothing about them. Chloe even starts noticing little inconsistencies and she shortly realizes that they are lying to her. How can she trust them then and how will she be able to figure out what happened? Also, there are bad lies and white lies. If something in your past was too painful, wouldn’t forgetting it be a blessing? Maybe her family is just trying to protect her because her life was not as perfect as it seems. I was completely in the dark about what was going to happen. There was one twist that I saw coming, but the rest were completely unexpected. The writing flows so easily that it’s a quick read and Chloe is such a good character that I wanted her to solve the mystery of her memory loss. This book is so good, it made me forget all the other amnesia books I’d read before.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/SOURCEBOOKS Landmark!

Can you imagine waking up and not knowing who you are? Chloe does just that after a car accident. She is told her son died in the crash and her husband died a week before the car accident. To make matters worse, their funerals have already taken place. Chloe is devastated and feels as if all this is her fault. Upon discharge from the hospital, she goes back to her parents house to recuperate. Her Father, a well known psychiatrist, insists on treating Chloe with drugs and hypnosis because she suffered a serious brain injury in the car accident. Chloe becomes more confused and knows her parents are lying about things but can't quite figure out what.I

Michelle Adams has written an amazingly creepy story. She skillfully withholds information from her protagonist and her readers about this severely dysfunctional family where secrets are the norm. Much like Chloe, I felt confused about what happened and why these events didn't make sense. The plot is well thought out and I very much wanted to keep reading to find out what was going on

I was invited to read an advanced readers copy of Between the Lies, written by author Michelle Adams, by an Associate Publicist of St. Martin’s Press. I obtained my copy via NetGalley and here is my honest review. I found this story to be a very riveting and suspenseful read. The main character, Chloe Daniels, is involved in an accident and wakes up in the hospital with absolutely no memory what so ever. She doesn’t remember how she got there, anything from her past, or even any of her family members. It’s a psychological thriller that keeps you guessing throughout the entire story. You are not sure who to trust and definitely who to believe. It seems everyone is lying to her, even those people that you would never imagine would. Definitely what I would call a dysfunctional family! It’s a story that captivated my attention the entire time and although I thought I might of had it figured out about halfway in, I had to finish it to get the complete understanding of what really happened to her. It’s a great story and I would recommend it to anyone who loves this genre. It was my first time reading anything by this author but I am now looking forward to reading more from her in the future.

I found this book to be a rather routine someone has amnesia story. I thought the outcome was rather predictable. It was, however, a well written, enjoyable read.

Here we go again with another psychological thriller...of course I am becoming difficult to please in this genre as vast majority of what I read are these. I was very pleasantly surprised with this one and really enjoyed it! Chloe wakes up in the hospital with a brain injury, zero recollection and who are these people around her saying they're her family? The cops want to speak with her regarding the accident that caused her to be hospitalized but how is she supposed to give details when she doesn't even know her own name? Of course her parents and sister will help her remember.. or will they? Who and/or what do you believe? This had lots of twists and surprises that kept you guessing throughout. Overall, I thought this was a solid psychological thriller and recommend to fans of the genre.

Special Thanks to NetGalley, Michelle Adams, and St. Martin's Griffin for allowing me an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

Chloe Daniels wakes up from a coma and has no memory of how she got there. There are people visiting her who say they are her family, she has no memory of them, she doesn't recognize her name, if she had a career, where she lived, etc.

As Chloe slowly starts to recover, her family begins to give her little spinets of information about her life, where she lived and that she was involved in a car crash. But even with no memory, Chloe knows that something isn't right. Something doesn't feel right. Can she trust what they are telling her? Could they be lying to her? She is having dreams and wonders if what she is dreaming could be real. As she continues to make improvements, she becomes determined to know the truth- no matter what.

So, I think we have read a few books with characters who wake up in a hospital with no memory. Here is another and yet, it is captivating. It became a real page turner for me as I wanted to learn the truth! Early on it becomes evident that things are not right. Heck, the word “lies” is the title. So, I knew someone had to being telling a tale or two…but who? Or maybe everyone is lying. Or maybe Chloe is lying? The fun was trying to determine what was true and what was a lie. Plus, if her family is lying, why? Who has something to hide? If they hiding something, why? So many questions went through my mind. I had my theories. I am guessing that quite a few people will guess a twist or two. There is quite a bit going on in this book and I did guess some things but not everything. Even with the things I did guess, I still really enjoyed the book.

This book had layers. With each reveal, the reader learns more about Chloe, her past and the events leading up to her being unconscious in the hospital. I could feel Chloe's fear, frustration, and doubt. Imagine being both physically and mentally impaired. Imagine being at the mercy of people you do not remember. People who you being to doubt and the things they are telling you do not sit right with you.

Absorbing is a word I would use to describe this book. I was riveted to the pages and had my own doubts about some of the characters. Well done psychological thriller that did not disappoint.

This is my first book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Chloe Daniels wakes up in hospital with no memory of those around her or what happened to her. After being in a coma and recovering from injuries she sustained from a horrible accident, she is confused and scared. Something is off with her family and nothing appears as it seems. Her father, a psychiatrist with a specialty in hypnosis and memory recovery tries to help Chloe regain her memories, or does he?

Well written and intriguing, I will be looking forward to this author's next book!

A big thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an early review copy of this book!

Between the Lies by Michelle Adams starts off mysteriously confusing and challenging me to figure out who is lying most of all.
It goes on and on and I found it hard to hold my attention.
Total shocker ending.
