This book started out so good. It had me reading and wanting more until about the halfway mark. For some reason it started falling a bit short.
It is my first by this author and I was very sad that it was not as I expected. The mystery was easy to figure out. The thrill fell short. Family is not always the best to help you. Secrets have a way of coming out even when you least expect them.

I give this book 3.5 stars. I was not that impressed with the characters, most of them. I did think Chloe was a very strong woman. She had a great determination. Her parents I didn’t like at all. It was somewhat predictable and easy to figure out. The author may have meant for it to be this way but I like to be surprised.

Thank you NetGalley and St Martin’s press for the ARC of this in exchange for my honest review. I will try more of this author’s work but this one just fell a bit short for me.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ecopy for my Kindle.
What started out as a great psychological thriller started to fizzle out about 1/2 through the story.
Chloe wakes up in a hospital not knowing who she is or what 's happened. to her. Her controlling father and passive mother take her to their house to recover. Her sister is home for the holidays and is not totally involved in the story and keeps quite until she's "burst open with the truth" towards the last 1/2 of the book.
Why Chloe is trying to remember what happened to her and where is son and husband are, her father who is a practicing psychologist thinks he's the best doctor for her recovery. With the introduction of her father's protege, the story begins to unravel.
The profanity should have been avoided and the last 1/2 of the book was o.k. Some of the twists were good, but others were easy to figure out right away. I really wanted Chloe to remember everything and be happy in the end. Overall, it was just an o.k. psychological thriller read for me.

After a serious car accident, Chloe Daniels awakens in the hospital with no memory of who she is. Her father, a prominent psychiatrist, is determined to help Chloe remember her previous life. As time goes on, Chloe begins to remember bits and pieces, and they don’t line up with what her father is telling her. When Chloe discovers all that her father has kept hidden from her, that she was married and had a child, she is furious, and begins her own search for the truth, defying her family’s wishes and once again trusting the wrong people.

This was a fast read, interesting but not compelling, and I managed to figure out the one behind the scenes about halfway through. I appreciated Chloe’s courage and strength as she assembled the fragments of her life into a clear picture, and was appalled at the lengths a person can go to keep someone in his life.

The beginning of the story sucked me in… a woman waking up from a car crash with no memory of her past. This isn’t a unique or new story line, but as you read on, you wanted to know more of what was really going on as you are lead ever so slowly through the book. It was a different and twisted sort of story. I thought after the beginning of the story (maybe one-third of the book) it was slow for me. At halfway through of the book, the story really got going and I couldn’t put it down.
Chloe’s family members were a piece of work as the author revealed more of the story. There are always the likeable and can’t stand characters. That always makes for an interesting read for me.
Good writing and an interesting, twisty, keep you guessing story for me. Great build up of characters. A good psychological/suspense book.
I purchased the audible version of this book right at the release time, so when I couldn’t read I could listen to it being read. The audible version is great too. Great narration by Deryn Edwards.
This is the first book I read by Michelle Adams, and I look forward to reading more of her books.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good written psychological suspense-Mystery/thriller.

Michelle Adams Between the Lines asks the question, what would you do if you woke up in a hospital with no memories of who you are, how you got here, or if the people around you are actually who they claim to be? Are they really trying to help you, or could something even more sinister be going on? Are there things going on that we should be looking for as the author slowly unravels Chloe Daniel's life before and after her accident, or is it all an attempt to send you down a road with no answers?

As Chloe recovers from the trauma, both physically and mentally, she starts to remember bits and pieces of her life, faded memories of events and people, as well as glimpses into the person she was before the accident. She knows little about her past - just that she was in a serious car accident that took the life of her son, a car accident still under investigation by the police. Her father claims he only wants to help her, but yet he uses some treatment options that one could say is highly unprofessional.

No spoiler by saying that no one should go through what Chloe does in regards to her so called family. Treated like a prisoner supposedly in her own home, heartbroken to learn that she lost her son during the accident, Chloe begins her own road to recovery and answers. As Chloe gets closer to uncovering the truth, it might also mean putting herself back in harm’s way. Was it really an accident? Can she really trust the parents who seem so intent on changing the narrative to what they want her to believe about her life before the crash? Can she trust the doctor who enters her life and seems to have a familiarity to him?

This isn't the first story I've read where the character wakes up in the hospital without any memories of who they were before the accident, probably won't be the last. I would never wish this on anyone, let alone those who have crossed my path and stabbed me in the back. It's horrible to watch Chloe struggle with regaining parts of her lost, including a son who she obviously loved very much. But, Chloe isn't a likable character and no, I won't discuss why for this would mean spoiling part of the story. Let's just say that sometimes make mistakes, and sometimes, those mistakes come back to haunt you.

This is an interesting thriller. I've always loved when the main character has amnesia, learning with them what their life was and remembering some events. But this one was very twisty! How can you discern the lies when you can't remember a thing about your past, anything before your accident?

I received an early e-copy of this book from St. Martin's Press in exchange for an honest review.

I do not believe this book is for me. The writing felt a tad wooden, the characters were unlikable, and the twists were all expected. It could also be that I read a book with a similar premise just a few months ago (that I also did not like). I hate to write such poor reviews, but this was not my cup of tea.

I was hooked from the first page. Chloe has been injured in a really bad car accident and cannot remember anything about her life. She is living with her family and they are taking care of her. As the book progresses, we keep finding out parts of Chloe’s life. We also learn her secrets. What really happened the night of the car crash? Who was responsible? Did Chloe try to kill herself? You’ll be hooked from the first chapter!

between the lies is a story that offers plenty of red herrings and keeps you guessing right until the 'grande finale'
cloe the main voice is a very human person trying to piece together her former life before she got involved into a devastating accident. she is a very brave woman who doesn't deny her flaws which made her very likable to me.
in my opinion there could have been a little Bit more tension but the ending rounds up the story smoothly.
thank you at #netgalley for the possibility to read this work

Lies, lies and more lies!!! This book is full of them. Chloe is recovering from a severe head injury, the result of a serious car accident. She remembers nothing of her previous life or events leading up to the accident. As she tries to recover under the watchful gaze of her controlling psychiatrist father, she soon wonders if he is there to help her or hurt her.

This is a psychological thriller that methodically builds as Chloe starts to recall and learn more about her life before the accident. She is never quite sure who to trust and what is real. This unreliability makes for a tense and riveting read.

I was certainly drawn in and eager to learn the truth. A couple of well timed reveals only added to my enjoyment of this book. A gracious thank you to St. Martib’s Press and NG for an ARC.

A very riveting and suspenseful read!
Chloe Daniels is involved in a car accident and wakes up in the hospital with no memory. Several weeks later she goes home with her parents and sister not remembering anything about her life. Dependent on her family to help her recall who she really is leads to many twists, turns and falsehoods.
And let's not forget lies, lies and more lies.
Riddled with unsettling moments this thrilling tale had me turning the pages to get to the truth.
Author Michelle Adams did a wonderful job of keeping me guessing throughout the whole story.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Imagine waking up in the hospital and you have no idea how you got there, in fact you have no memory at all. Chloe Daniels finds herself in just that position.

Michelle Adams has managed to keep the reader in as much of the dark as Chloe is. Unfolding the murky details makes for one suspenseful read.

As Chloe’s memory slowly returns, we begin to sort out the truth about what really happened the night of the accident. Before the truth surfaces there are a lot of people involved and who really has Chloe’s best interest? How reliable is her memory as she tries to piece the details together? This is an enjoyable, twisty, and hard to put down read.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy.

This book was really good! Chloe wakes up in the hospital and has no idea who she is, how she or there or who anyone else is either! She doesn't even remember her own name. She was in a terrible car accident and was suffered extensive injuries--which included a head injury thus explaining her current predicament. Chloe is obviously completely petrified and doesn't know who or what to believe. She has to go home with her "family" even though she can't really place them. The story is actually a real roller coaster once it gets going with many twists and turns and I could not put this book down! I love a good thriller and this one delivered!!! There were a lot of shocking reveals as the story progressed....great story that kept my interest until the very last page! highly recommend!

Chloe wakes up in a hospital after a car accident with no memory. Her parents take her to her childhood home with them and slowly starts to tell her about the accident and her life. But Chloe has a feeling that something is missing and they’re not telling everything. Her father, who is a doctor, is very controlling and in charge of her recovery. But slowly the memories are coming back and Chloe is unsure who to trust.

Chloe was a likeable character that you can root for. She’s determined to find the truth and her old life. I disliked her father from the first. What a creep. I wish there had been more of her husband because I didn’t get any idea who he was really.

This was a quick and easy read but I kinda kept waiting for more. I mean, I liked it but it could have been much more. This was my first book by the author and I’m looking forward to reading more from her.

Between the Lies is a terrifying life experience that I think any of us would hate to go through, so reading this book was most definitely and edge of your seat thriller.
The plot begins with Chloe Daniels waking up from a horrific car accident not knowing anything of her life before. Leaving the hospital after receiving brain surgery, she is taken home with her parents to recover. Chloe begins to come around and naturally starts asking questions trying to discover details of her previous life. Her father, who is a psychiatrist has been working with her in these "special hypno sessions" which make her groggy and questionable and as she yearns to learn more, she feels as though there are secrets being kept from her. Without giving the book away, Chloe goes on a journey to find out more about her accident, the secrets her family have kept from her, and why her father is trying to erase her previous memories. She recruits help from a colleague of her father who assists her in back tracking her past, where she used to live, where she used to work. As she begins to uncover some of her past, she may not be the person she thought she was. And as more of these secrets are revealed and as she is able to recover more of her memories, Chloe may be in danger herself. I enjoyed reading this book and was definitely eager to find out how the story turned out for her. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves a good mystery/thriller.

This was an intriguing psychological thriller with a creepy vibe that will have readers on edge as they piece together the mystery surrounding a horrible accident that left a young woman with amnesia. Readers become privy to the secrets, lies, familial manipulations (and you thought YOUR family had issues!!) as well as the victim's mounting doubts about who she can trust.

I enjoyed the several possible culprits Adams provides that had me second guessing my ever-changing hypotheses. I found the first half of the book stronger (even with the vague psychological science-y stuff) and admit that my interest in the second half faltered a bit. I was still intrigued but found it odd that a few secondary characters strangely petered out of the story and I suppose I was hoping for a bigger ending. I still enjoyed figuring it all out, but it could have been stronger.

Overall, this was a great, delightfully dark psychological thriller with several red herrings to keep even the psychological thriller buffs on their toes.

Between the Lies, by Michelle Adams, is a psychological thriller that will take over your life. Imagine the horror of waking up from a coma, bruised and battered, absent all memories of your past. Even people who purport to be your family are strangers in which you have no trust. Then, you begin to suspect that they are engaged in a conspiracy of lies. The plot twists and turns but manages to never lose the reader in a desperate race to discover what happened, why it happened and who is responsible. I admit that I guessed the villain shortly before the author revealed it!, but it only enriched my enjoyment and the suspense of seeing how all the pieces finally come together.

Adams has created a protagonist that is very flawed and very sympathetic. Part of the pleasure of this novel is the experience of watching her grow in complexity and strength. Other characters, while also flawed, are multidimensional and believable. While this novel is a thriller in every sense of the word, this story, with its heartbreak and richly-drawn characters, is likely to stay with you long after you close the book. Highly recommend! 4.5 stars.

I thought this was a fast-paced, disorientating read, with a multi-layered main character.

The fact that Chloe can’t remember anything of her previous life adds an immediate sense of fear and suspicion into this book, and the overwhelming presence of the unknown throughout is almost suffocating. She’s a very interesting main character, and as the reader finds out more about her past life, I felt that there was a real disconnect between herself before and after the crash that the story revolves around. Chloe almost seems like a different person, but it really works well. Towards the end, the two sides of Chloe definitely start to join and work together to show who she really is, and I loved this sense of piecing together throughout.

Her family are also well written, and her dad is the most interesting yet damaging character. His actions are truly bizarre at times, and it seems like he only views his daughter as a clinical patient, rather than have an actual connection with her. I thought that this really highlighted the trauma Chloe was going through, and the secrets he keeps from her are honestly mind-boggling. I struggled to believe that anyone would genuinely keep these things secret, but for the sake of letting the suspense and fear build up, I went along with it. Her mum and sister definitely deserved more time, I couldn’t really understand why they didn’t team up and go against her dad, and I don’t feel that the relationship between them and the dad was properly explored. It felt rather assumed that he was so controlling they were unable to argue back, but this seems pretty easily resolved by the end…

I guessed who the ‘villain’ was pretty early on, but it felt so obvious that perhaps the reader was meant to know, as it got really frustrating (in a good way) that Chloe was unable to see it herself. Despite guessing who was responsible, I didn’t actually figure out the events that occurred to get to the crash itself, and it was definitely a good twist and a great ending.

Chloe Daniels was in a terrible car accident, but when she wakes up, she has no idea who she is or who the people around her are. Not only has Chloe lost her memory, but she has also lost her son in this terrible accident. With flashes of what could have happened that night, Chloe is determined to find out the truth. But her family keeps filling her head with falsehoods that are hindering her from finding out what is really going on. Still weak from her accident and still unsure which memories are real and which have been implanted, Chloe set out to find out what happened that night and who she was then and who she is today.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's for the opportunity to read and review this book.

First of all, I don't know what I would do, if I woke up one day and had no idea who I was or who the people around me were. Then to find out that my family had been keeping secrets from me and trying to rewrite my history, that would make me go berserk. But Chloe is able to keep her composure long enough to discover what is really going on.

The book started off a little slow for me, but about half way through the story picked up and I couldn't put it down after that. Lots of ups and downs and twists and turns. When you find out the truth, it's really hard to believe. At first I was sure I knew what was going on, but towards the end, I found out I was very wrong. Chloe remembers nothing, but in her dreams she sees flashes of what could have happened. Are these dreams real, or are the manifestations? From what her family and the police tell her, they can't be real, but it feels true to her core. Chloe will go against everyone that is trying to "protect" her in order to protect herself.
