Just when the world seems against them, three sisters find an inner strength and a bond they never expected.

Television personality, Finola is finally ready to give her husband his greatest desire-children. She plans to tell him on a rare getaway that goes awry when she learns he’s been having an affair.

Zinnie is happy on her own. She’s focused on a nursing career and only dates because it’s ‘the thing to do.’ So, when her best friend (a cancer survivor) approaches her to be a surrogate, Zinnie jumps at the opportunity to help. Except, being pregnant and alone, is harder than she expected.

Ali is getting married in six short weeks and she’s going crazy between preparations and keeping up to her mother who needs help decluttering her home so she can sell it. Then, in a cowardly move, her fiancé sends his handsome brother to call off the wedding.


What follows is how these three so-different sisters overcome the crisis each of them face and find strength from unexpected places.

Some of my favorite scenes happened in the family home as the three girls and their mother come together amid thirty years of memories.

I really enjoyed this book. It took a hard look at the dynamics of sisters and their relationships as well as the relationships between husbands and wives. I think the best part of the book was it made me realize that nothing should not be taken for granted especially relationships. The author did a great job of walking the reader through each of the sisters lives and how a bad day did not have to define their lives. Each sister had to re-look at herself and the way their lives were going to see what their lives were really like. Great book that I would recommend to my friends

In “California Girls” by Susan Mallery we meet three sisters who on the surface could not be any different. But when all three get dumped a few days apart from each other they begin to see who they were and realize that along the way something shifted and they lost more than the men in their lives.

As they begin to put their lives back together, we get to see how they plan to rebuild a better them. It helps when you throw in a small felony, In & Out Burger in a recovery room and offers for revenge sex.

I am a Susan Mallery fan (Fools Gold all the way) so this was a change in my reading for her and I could not be happier. I received an ARC through Net Galley of this book and this is my honest review.

Susan Mallery did it again! Just love her books. This is a great Sister book! I love how each sister was different, but yet found themselves. A great read!!

I enjoy Susan Mallery's books and was happy to get an advanced copy of this book. Three sisters, Zennie, Finola, and Ali have distinctly different careers, relationships, and outlooks on life. Through various turns in the road, they find their lives upended in one way or another. The steps they take to move forward are admirable and fun to read about. The characters weren't overly warm and developed for me, but it is a light read which is enjoyable.

I have read nearly every Susan Mallery book, and she is one of my favorite contemporary women's lit authors. I was excited to get this title, and while I read it all the way through, it is not one of my favorites. The sisters were all very winey and at sometimes annoying. All of their stories wrapped up the way I assumed they would, and their parents seemed like horrible people. I loved the story of Ali and Daniel and I would love to read more about them. All in all, disappointed in this new book, Susan Mallery has written way better books than this one.

Super predictable, yet cute nonetheless. A light read overall, with some characters that are much more relatable than others.

I was so pleased when I was approved to review this new novel by Susan Mallery, as I am a fan of her work! This one certainly did not disappoint, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was able to read this in just a few days, as it really kept my interest from the beginning. Can't wait to see what Mallery comes up with next!

I loved this book from the very first page. Each woman brings a unique “when life hand you lemons” type problem, and the bonds of sisters and love and friendship take over from there! I am a huge fan of Susan Mallery books to begin with, but this will become one of my new favorites. Will defiantly be recommmending it to my family and friends- what a great read :)

Starting over isn't easy, even when it's the right thing to do.

This is Susan Mallery doing what she does best: combining romance and chick lit with all the feelings and lessons about love, loss, heartbreak, moving on, and learning and ultimately coming out of the worst moments of your life a stronger person.

This book tells the story of three sisters, who couldn't be more different, all experiencing a painful breakup at the same time, each of them learning a different lesson: Ali's fiancé doesn't even have the guts to break off their engagement weeks before the wedding and sends his brother to do his dirty work instead, Zennie is shocked when she has literally no feelings about her boyfriend breaking up with her and throws herself into a very new, non-romantic situation, and Finola's husband informs her, minutes before she has to be on live TV, that he has been having an affair and is leaving her. While they all learn different things about themselves during the painful months that follow, they realize they have all lost sight of what is truly important, and grow stronger.

I loved watching the sisters realize uncomfortable truths and growing because of that, how they each learned to let things go and ultimately found themselves again. It was a lovely story about three totally different women, each remarkable in their own way, and I cheered so hard when they all stood up for what they wanted! I can't believe it took me this long to pick up a Susan Mallery book again. I forgot how warm, heartfelt, and amazing her books are!

Definitely recommended to anyone who likes complex stories about families, loss, and moving on!

Susan Mallery has done it again! I loved this book and I hope that we see the characters again in another book. This is a story of three sisters., Finola, Zennie and Ali. Finola is a local television talk show host, Zennie is a nurse that works for a cardiac surgeon. Ali is the youngest and she works in a parts warehouse. All three sisters experience emotional earthquakes at the same time. I won't spoil the plot, but I found their struggles realistic. Each sister has to find their way and deal with people who aren't supportive.. There is a happy for now for all three sisters, but the author left room for a sequel.

Three sisters each go through a devastating loss on the same day. The oldest sister, Finola, is blindsided when her perfect marriage falls apart. The middle sister, Zennie doesn't know why "pairing" is such a big deal, but is blindsided when her current date breaks it off because he wants more from her. Ali, the youngest, is blindsided by her fiancé two months before their wedding. Even worse is that he won't even tell her himself - his standoffish brother tells her! Each sister does not want to bother the others with her trauma. They each struggle to change and grow into the women they were meant to be. California Girls is a wonderful view of personal growth, change, family and finding love. I always enjoy Susan Mallery's books. Her characters are spot on and it was a hard book to put down.

I used to be an avid reader of Susan Mallery a few years ago. She stopped being my instant buy about 16 books into the Fool's Gold series, just because I felt like they were getting monotonous. After reading this book, I am going to have to rethink my previous stand. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

This novel is about three sisters: Finola, Zennie, and Ali. Three sisters have never been more different.

Finola is the oldest, most distinguished of the three sisters. She has a career in television and is the host of a t.v. show. She's married to the handome, adoring Nigel.

Zennie is the middle child, the one who refuses to conform. She doesn't feel the need to pair up with another human being, but she's casually dating the adorable zoologist Clark. She is fiercely loyal and loving.

Ali is the baby sister, the one who was never a parental favorite. The one who feels overlooked and frumpy. She's self-deprecating, but not in a frustrating way. She is in the midst of planning her wedding to Glen.

One Friday, all three women are changed irrevocably. Finola finds out that the steady Nigel has been having an affair, with a younger ultra-famous singer. Ali's fiance calls off the wedding- by sending his brother to tell her! Clark breaks up with Zennie and she finds herself pregnant (She sacrifices her womb for her best friend.)

Yes- drama ensues, but the women make revelations about themselves. They realize the mistakes they have made in the past and they choose to grow from them. This was the type of novel I often crave. One that has just enough drama, and simple resolution.

I have always loved Susan Mallery's writing. She's a fantastic author, and it's fantastic for me to leave the world of Fool's Gold.

All characters are intertwined, not wanting to burden each other with their problems.

I really liked the development of this book and the demeanor of each of the women. I highly recommend this to other readers.

Susan Mallery is a long time favorite author. I read California Girls in one sitting, it was that great! As one of five sisters it was interesting to se the interplay between the three very different sisters in the novel. The relationship between parents and each child is incredibly real. I laughed, cried while reading this and I know it will be a hit with her fans and certainly win new ones. I like books that intertwine the lives of multiple characters and this was a great representation of that. It was a story of three sisters who thought they lost everything but realized they actually gained more than they lost. Self confidence.

CALIFORNIA GIRLS by Susan Mallery is an amazing book! It had me both laughing and crying. I was an emotional wreck and I couldn't put this book down! It's 2am!!! No one tells a story like Susan Mallery, she always takes us on an amazing journey!

Three sisters must deal with life changing setbacks while helping out their demanding mother. Susan Mallery deals with difficult issues with warmth and compassion.

Although the book had interesting issues and the characters grew emotionally, I was not particularly vested in any of the girls or their mother. I found the descriptions stale and the humor not that funny. I know she can do better.

A (typical) bravo performance from Susan Mallery. Three sisters all in different stages of heartbreak do what it takes to rebuild their lives with surprising (but "feel good") results. Finola is the well-put together LA morning-show host whose husband leaves her for a younger woman just moments before she goes on the air — the extra zing? The woman is her first guest. Zennie is the athletic OR nurse who doesn’t believe that everyone needs to be paired up in twos — she is very happy with her unattached life. But when she agrees to be a surrogate for her best friend, the ensuing hormone flood is confusing. Ali is jilted by her fiancee just weeks before the wedding — and he doesn’t even have the nerve to tell her himself. Though his selected intermediary is his much nicer and pretty hunky younger brother.

While the story is somewhat predictable, it is a real pleasure to read and includes some great messaging about self-worth, friendship, support, and family.
