The premise of this sounded great and initially I was intrigued. I was desperate to find out how a child could disappear from a hotel room without a trace, when no one had come in or out of the room!

When it was revealed what had happened I was left feeling a bit disappointed. I'm not sure I fully understand the involvement of one of the characters at all! As for the motive, it's a little flimsy for my liking.

Not a bad read, and it kept me occupied for an afternoon but it's definitely lacking in the shock factor.

I had no idea that this was a book that was part of a series but I don't feel as though I have missed anything from not reading the books precluding this one.

It’s nice to read a book based in Australia and I really enjoyed this tense thriller.
Ted, and ex-policeman turned PI when he was arrested and falsely charged for a sexual crime against a young girl and Amanda, who took a chance on him when others wouldn’t and employed him.
The story of the small boy who went missing while he was locked in a hotel room , his parents checked every hour and were out for dinner. (This feels like a take on a real, hugely famous and very sad mystery. )
With more twists than a roller-coaster, I was gripped by the story from beginning to end. There is so much going on and I couldn’t get enough.
My one criticism is that I would have liked to go back and read the previous books in the series but having garnered the information that I did in Gone By Midnight, I am deterred. I already know too much. I do feel that the author did themselves a disservice by doing this.

I enjoyed Gone by midnight. It’s every parents nightmare, a young boy disappears from his hotel room with twists and turns throughout that kept me reading. It’s not hard to guess where the idea for this book came from but still a good story.

I iked the characters and I really liked how the personal life of the detective was brought around the story. Also, I liked the story and I would never think of the mother as the muderer. On the other hand, the end is shocking, it is a little bit unrealistic.

A fantastic book and series. And a premise that has had the world intrigued for years, adults leaving children in the hotel room to find one missing when they return.

Good read. I didnt realise there was more books to this when I started it, but it didnt effect my enjoyment. Good storyline and great characters.

This is my first experience of the series of novels by Candice Fox featuring disgraced ex-cop Ted Conkaffey, who had previously been wrongly accused of a child murder case.

Ted now works as a private detective with another outcast from society, convicted murderer Amanda Pharrell. Together as an oddball duo they become involved in the case of a missing boy from a hotel in Cairns. Looking at the evidence the boy seems to have vanished without a trace from the hotel during the evening while his mother was having dinner with friends she was on holiday with.

Ted and Amanda work together as an unlikely pair to uncover the disappearance of the boy and this doesn’t come without any danger to their own lives as they search for the truth.

I enjoyed this novel and will certainly go back to the previous novels featuring Ted Conkaffey. I really liked the character of Amanda and all her quirks.

Loved this, I haven’t read any of the previous series and so was worried I’d miss out on the backstory but I didn’t.

So two lots of parents go out to dinner leaving their 4 boys in a locked hotel room, someone checks every hour on them (very like the Maddy McCann scenario) and one boy disappears.

CCTV shows none left the room and none entered apart from the parents, so how can he just disappear??

My heart was in my mouth for most of this book to be honest, it’s every parents worst nIghtnare, and I really felt for al involved. I liked the characters too especially Ted who I thought had it rough at times.

A must read for anyone who likes a tense and twisty thriller, gonna have to go buy the rest in the series for sure!!!

Love the characters, love the concept, love the twists!

I was worried this might be too close to the Madeleine McCann story, but it's very different with an outcome that's so satisfying it'll leave you cheering. Fun, fast paced and packed with detailed back story as well as a mystery to be solved.

An interesting story starting with a mystery of how a boy could have disappeared from the hotel without a trace. The characters are engaging and the story is very well written and keeps you engaged throughout. Im definitely going to read the others by the author!

I did enjoy this book even though it is not my usual genre. it was well written, had engaging characters and a good storyline. All in all an enjoyable read.

I was very excited to read this as had only recently read a bookshot by James Patterson and Candice Fox, which I thoroughly enjoyed and after reading the bio of Gone by Midnight I realised that it was the third in the Crimson Lake series.

I must first apologise for the time it's taken me to review, I wanted to be able to review it properly, so had to read the first two in the series, before I could start this book, and boy, was I pleased I did, as it gave me a great background/insight into the characters and their histories. This series has become one of my all time favourites, so I hope there is more to come from these really interesting characters. It could be read alone, but was much more enjoyable knowing the whole background

The series is based in Queensland, Australia and features 2 main characters - Ted Conkaffey, an Ex Police Detective, falsely accused of kidnapping a child, and his current personal investigative partner, Amanda Pharrell, an ex con.

In this particular book they are looking into the disappearance of Ritchie Farrow, who has ben left in a hotel room, with his friends, while Mum and friends dined downstairs. Did he escape, was he abducted? why is he not on CCTV? His mum has instructed Ted to investigate.

I'm not going to give anything away, but would urge you to read this this series, and I will definitely be reading all other books that Candice has written.

What a disappointment. The premise was good but the execution was poorly delivered with contrived circumstances and less than believable situations and characters. Shame

I love a good thriller and this book was really good and the best part was I never knew this was the third book in the series, but I was able to follow the story with no issue and will now be looking at picking up the first two to read now.

I would recommend this book to any fan of the crime fiction category this book won't disappoint full of suspense and I really had no inkling to how it was going to end.

It starts with an underlying feeling of discomfort and expectation - a Mum and her 16 year old daughter in a seemingly simple settled life. Mum feels the need to give her daughter some privacy and daughter thinks she has grown up (but without the life experience that goes with it), Both Mum and daughter clearly have secrets from each other (for a reason)... then troubling signs appear.... and the strands of Mum's and daughter's lives spread out to interweave with a selection of well written characters and situations, all the while unravelling, with twists and turns apace right up until the very unexpected end. Once started, I couldn't put it down until I got to the end. Satisfying, thought provoking and surprising.

I really enjoyed this crime thriller novel. The story features private investigator Ted and his sidekick Amanda as they investigate the disappearance of a child. I didn’t realise going into this book that it’s the third book in a series but I followed the story perfectly fine. I did love Ted and Amanda so much that I’m definitely going to go back and read the previous two books though, they are such brilliant characters and they really made this book for me. The case they are investigating is a missing child, who was left alone along with a group of other kids of a similar age, who has disappeared from a hotel. There is no evidence that the child left the hotel either alone or with someone so the crime becomes ever more mysterious. I didn’t work out where this book was going so the ending was a shock to me. I recommend this one!

Could not read this book. The formatting was completely wrong on my kindle meaning that I couldn't read any of it properly.

I have been a fan of Candice Fox for years and, if I wasnt already, then after reading this book, I definitely would be.bemusing and gripping.

I am a true Candice Fox fan and will read anything by this author. This book didn't disappoint and is the next in the Crimson Lake series. Loved it
