I really wanted a chance to read these manga, but unfortunately the files expired before I had a chance to get to them. Based on cover design and description, a majority of the books sound interesting. Perhaps next time I will have time to read the eARC sooner.

Mangas are the best way to get the condensed version of a book and this one is an exceptionally sweet one.

*I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*

It has been a few years since I've read a Harlequin Manga, so when I saw this one show up on Netgalley, I was hit with some nostalgia and decided to try it out.

I was so disappointed. The story is so fast paced it seems to be a roller coaster. They both like each other from one loo and while he says he can't be with her because she is raising her half-sister's infant, all his actions show the opposite. It is so frustrating??? And she keeps thinking how she can't help but fall for him. Yet, we aren't given reasons for their attraction to each other besides looks??? There is also the communication problems and being SUPER quick to make decisions and pass judgment.
There really doesn't feel like there is a story here.

The characters also don't really have personalities. Everyone is pretty bland.

On a positive note, I really liked the cute art style. There is a 4-koma in the back providing background on one scene in the book and I liked it so much more than the whole story??? 4 squares and I smiled.

So, this isn't a manga I'd recommend. I'm now wondering if I'm remembering all the ones I did read in a too-kind light...

Book Review
Title: Newborn on Her Doorstep
Author: Yuki Mizusawa (Illustrator) & Ellie Darkins
Genre: Manga
Rating: *****
Review: Newborn on her Doorstep revolves around Lily finding an abandoned baby on her doorstep, who happens to belong to her estranged sister whose whereabouts are currently unknown. On the same day, she finds the baby she meets her best friend Kate’s brother Nic who Lily has an instant connection with. He is even the person that suggested that she take the baby to the hospital to make sure the child is healthy.
However, there is something off about Nic as he mentions he has bad memories and they seem to surface around the baby making Lily wonder what those memories are. Due to her home being renovated Kate moves Lily and baby Rosie into her brother’s flat, however, when Nic’s trip is postponed he also has to live with Lily and Rosie. He confessed that he is attracted to Lily but can’t be with her because of the baby.
Nic confesses that when he was 19, he had a girlfriend and a son called Max but at 3 weeks old Max died of SIDS and he and his girlfriend spilt up because they couldn’t cope with the pain. However, things get complicated when Lily’s sister Helen ends up in hospital wanting to see her child, but Lily isn’t sure whether it is the right thing to do but there is no one to take care of Rose until Nic agrees despite his fears.
While they try to make a relationship work things are hard for Nic as memories surface from time to time but it really drives a wedge between Nic and Lily. However, in true Harlequin/Mills and Boon fashion there is a wonderfully happy ending that was just delightful.

I received this manga from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

What would you do if you find a little baby on your doorstep? A baby that is from your half-sister? That is the decision Lily faces in this manga.

Sorry, but this guy he runs up to you, he is wearing running clothing, and he has music in his ears + he is muscular. Yet, when at the hospital to have check for the baby, you ask him if he runs. Um.... No, he was just doing this for the very first time ever.

Haha, of course her home is under renovation, so guess what, you are now living together with Nic, Katie's brother. But it should be fine, he isn't home. Or is he? Oh dear. Of course dear Kate hasn't told her brother this little tidbit. Why would you? This is way more fun.

It seems that no one has a clean past in here. We find out why Nick is having such trouble with the baby (and the sounds the little one makes). I am glad that Lily was there for him to talk to him and to comfort him. Poor guy.

It was pretty boring though. Two characters falling love, caring for the cute baby, and of course drama. Maybe I shouldn't have read so many harlequin manga in a row. :P

I did think the ending was cute, but was that one thing really necessary? *sigh*

The art was not entirely to my liking, I am not sure, it felt off at times. Close-ups were nicely done though.

Newborn on Her Doorstep: Harlequin Manga by Ellie Darkins & Yuki Mizusawa

3 stars

Lily wakes up to find a newborn on her doorstep one morning and her world changes. Her best friend’s brother shows up and a romance ensues. The plot obviously isn’t the most sophisticated, but this is a Harlequin romance turned into a manga, so it provides exactly what it promises. I was a little thrown off because the reader is just thrown into the story and things are just going, going, gone and the pacing is incredibly fast (too fast for a romance, in my opinion). The writing isn’t gripping, but the story is cute enough to fly through. I really like the art style because it’s your typical shojo manga.

Whimsical Writing Scale: 3

Art Scale: 4

Lily is the main female character and I really liked her. She’s level-headed most of the time and she was all for communication and overcoming hardships, which I was all for and then she decided to run away. I still liked her despite this annoying change of character.

Kick-Butt Heroine Scale: 3.25

Nic is rich and handsome plus he has a heart for saving children from unfair working environments. He also takes Lily to fancy restaurants despite her having a baby, a trip to Rome, and being romantic as all get out. He checked all the boxes for swoony and while I wasn’t head over heels for him, I was definitely rooting for him.

Swoon Worthy Scale: 3

Kate, the friend of the heroine and brother of the hero, cracks me up. I aspire to be as meddlesome in people’s lives as her. I’m also obsessed with babies in manga and anime because they always look so freaking adorable. Obviously, Rosie was the highlight of the whole story.

Character Scale: 3

Overall, this story is cute. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the manga and the story, but it was a nice little thirty minute read and it gave me some feels. My inner romantic was fed by cuteness and babies. I think this is something worth checking out if you want to fill your stomach with cheese.

Plotastic Scale: 2

Cover Thoughts: It’s cute. Not amazing, but I do love the yellow flowers and the pink together.

Thank you, Netgalley and Harlequin, for providing me with a copy of this manga in exchange for an honest review.

Enjoyed reading this manga! The illustration's not as intricate as I'd like but still, I cried a bit at some moment in the story. It's definitely my guilty pleasure reading H&Q based mangas! Although it's my first time reading Ellie Darkins's story, I think I'll read more; manga or not.

📚I received an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) from NetGalley and Harlequin/SB Creative as the publisher in exchange for an honest review📚
Book title : Newborn on Her Doorstep
Author : Ellie Darkins; Illustrator : Yuki Mizusawa
Release Date : 1 January 2019

The story starts with Lily who finds her sister’s new born baby on her doorstop. Her sister leaves the baby with a note asking her to take care of the baby. Lily is in shock and does not even know what to do. Luckily, our hero, Nic comes up as her knight in shining armour helping Lily and the baby to deal with the authorities.

As Lily decided to keep the baby until her half-sister returns, she ends up staying as Nic’s flatmates. The attraction then starts to spark between them but Nic fight it. He does not want to involve himself with Lily and the baby because he once ever lost his baby in the past. It causes him a traumatic experience in which he has to break up with his ex-wife years ago. He promises himself that he will never go through that experience again but he cannot resist Lily’s charms. And that is where the conflicts begin.

I personally think that the story is nice even though it is a little bit cliché. The illustration provided is also entertaining and I am sure that a manga lover will enjoy this.

Lily and Nic have something in common: Lily's sister's child, a baby to protect. The shared bond and a temporary accomodation arrangement at Nic's place while Lily's own house is undergoing renovation brings them closer, but Nic guards a wounded heart and a past trauma. His previous marriage did not survive the sudden unexptected Death of his three weeks old son and he is scared to open up to anyone else. Will the growing feelings between Lily and Nic be stronger and help Nic overcome his fears?

Lily finds a new born baby on her doorstep with a note asking her to take care of the baby. The note is written in her half sister's handwriting but there is no sign of her half sister who Lily hasn't seen for years.

Lily stands there thinking what to do when she receives help from an unexpected source. Nic is the brother of Lily's friend Kate. He goes to Lily's place to collect his house keys because Kate left the keys with Lily. When he finds Lily standing there with a baby he takes charge and gets them to the hospital and police, and helps Lily with the authorities.

Lily decides to keep the baby until her half sister is found and Kate then steps in and arranges for Lily to stay with Nic because Lily's house is being refurbished and is no place for a newborn baby to stay.

So Lily and Nic become flatmates and an attraction develops between them but Nic fights this. He doesn't want to get involved with Lily because he lost his baby son and broke up with his wife years ago, and he has promised himself never to go through that again, but he finds he cannot resist Lily.

And so they draw closer but Nic struggles with his fears and Lily makes some rash decisions about their relationship. Personally I think she makes a hasty decision after just a very short time of knowing Nic. Anyway eventually they get over their difficulties and get married, get pregnant and adopt Rosie.

It is a nice story but the drama was just unnecessary for me. I think this is the difficulty in telling romantic stories because there needs to be some drama but sometimes it is just a bit too overdone.

Anyway fans of manga and romance will enjoy this. It is great to see a romance in pictures and the drawings are lovely and kind of make up for the story. This is my personal opinion because others might adore this story especially since it has the most adorable baby ever.

Lily and Nic were amazing people. I loved how they both immediately stepped up to the plate to take care of Rose. Lily had a familial bond to Rose, whereas Nic didn't but he was familiar with being a father. I think the relationship between them was realistic. Nic had his own demons to deal with and allowed them to cause strife in his relationship with Lily. Though his demons were some tough ones, I loved how Lily was willing to help him through it all. I loved it all!
