I had never heard of this Author or this book before I picked it up and so for that reason I was a little apprehensive. But! I was hooked almost right away. The dystopian setting was refreshing. It was different yet had the same kind of feel as other dystopian novels..

I did have a small issue with the main character Brynna. She is meant to be the protagonist, the shining jewel of this novel and to an extent she is. She is strong both mentally and physically – a good role model for young readers. However, she is kept in the dark on a lot of matters which in turn leaves the reader at a loss as to what’s happening until the event actually happens.

Brynna is 18 and has to go to hypor city by law. She is in a thin nightgown trying to plead her future with her father . . He says that it would look bad if a councilors daughter was excused from work duty.. she is worried about her mother's health."What do I fear ?That I won't like my job. That I won't fit in. That I'll be found out." She has a secret and is afraid but is told won't know if like job until try it and will make new friends,"You know you have special gift but others do not. Perhaps one day you can show the world, who you are but for now it must remain a secret" I loved the characters
