Three years has gone by! I don’t see enough sugar daddy books, but they’re always really interesting. I don’t think it’s a trope someone tackles unless they really have a point to make, and that tends to be interesting even if it’s a point I don’t necessarily agree with. Will have to circle back around to this one at some point!

I liked that Kayla was the sugar mama, and she was in charge. Devin was only on the site as a drunken dare and a little money on the side was good too. He and Kayla had amazing chemistry, A definite change to the woman always being the damsel in distress books.

Sugar & Spice by Christine d’Abo is the second book in her Sugar series. It’s about an internet dating site that pairs sugar daddies (or mommas in this case) with younger partners for companionship and more. I read the previous book in the series, Sugar Sweet, and quite enjoyed it so I had high expectations for this one and I’m happy to say it delivers an equally enjoyable and entertaining older woman/younger man romance.

Kayla Arnold is a millionaire running her own company, Fashion Finds. She’s divorced from a man who took advantage of her (and slept around) and hasn’t been interested in dating since. But at a friend’s urging she signs up on a sugar daddy website where wealthy people of all genders can look for younger companions. In looking through the profiles, her eye is caught by a handsome and intelligent man, and she takes the first step to see if he’d be interested in attending some social events with her as her date. She’s tired of men only dating her for her money and at least with someone contracted to go out with her, she’d know exactly what she’d be getting out of the bargain.

Devin has just finished his PhD in mathematics and is at a loss as to what to do next. After he and his roommate have had a few too many drinks, he ends up with a profile on a sugar daddy site – and with a message from Kayla. Attracted to her picture and her honest approach, he figures they should meet in person and see if this is something that could really work. He could use the money, and going out with a beautiful woman is no hardship. When they do meet up, they find themselves attracted to each other and quite happy to make a short term contract. Once they spend time together, things get more complicated as they start to have feelings for each other, too (and the sex is addictive!). Can they turn a simple agreement into something more?

Kayla comes across as an empathetic figure, a smart and overworked businesswoman who doesn’t leave herself much time for personal interactions, with the exception of some social evenings with her best friend Simone. She is understandably leery about men in general after her disastrous marriage. She’d connected with her now ex-husband at a hometown gathering after she’d made her money and she’d been devastated by his betrayal. She’s still struggling with how things ended. She’d been one of the poorer kids at her high school and now that she has money she’s one of their biggest donors of scholarships and other funds to improve the lot of the students there. As a result of her donations the school wants to rename their library after her with a special dedication service. It’s not something she can avoid, and having Devin at her side will make the stressful event easier for her. It turns out to be an even bigger deal when her ex-husband is there too, as he’s now the mayor of her hometown. Seeing him again forces her to think about what she really wants for her future.

Devin has his own issues to deal with, though they don’t involve an ex. His father passed away when he was younger and Devin has always felt that he would never be able to live up to his dad’s reputation as a excellent teacher. This has left him with the quandary of what to do with his education, especially when it’s clear to those around him that he would also do well as an educator. His roommate’s mother has cancer and he’s helping support them, plus he volunteers at a soup kitchen in his spare time. He’s an all-around nice guy, friendly and caring and he quickly sees through Kayla’s businesslike exterior to the sensitive woman underneath. He can see that she’s been hurt by a previous partner and is determined to show her that he is different.

As Devin and Kayla connect they move their relationship onto an intimate footing in some steamy love scenes. Kayla is less than ten years older than Devin so the age difference is not really a factor but Devin will have to work hard to get Kayla to consider him seriously as a partner. In finding their way to a happy ending they force each other to confront their fears and move past them to reach a satisfying conclusion. Sugar & Spice is an enjoyable and sexy contemporary romance that nicely flips the millionaire hero trope around with a savvy rich businesswoman who finds love with an unexpected hero.

4.5 stars! I liked this book because Kayla was the Sugar mama and in charge. It’s a different twist with the woman being the successful one. But even though Kayla struck it big with her design company, she was still battling old wounds her ex husband inflicted on her. She lost all trust in men, but was lonely. So her best friend talked her into signing up on a sugar daddy site, with her being the one to pay for an acquaintance. Kayla was not going to do anything with the site but loneliness hit the best of her and she set up a meeting with Devin. Devin was on the site because of a drunken dare. But when Kayla and Devin started to correspond with each other, they decided to meet. They both were drawn to each other physically, and enjoyed talking to one another. So Kayla asked Devin to accompany her for one week to her hometown. She was being honored by her highschool and didn’t want to attend the festivities by herself. Their whirlwind relationship took off that week. But Kayla’s ex husband had other plans. This was a quick- moving story with two characters that didn’t realize what they needed until they found each other.

Sugar and spice and everything hot and steamy. This book was so fun, sexy, and hot. The characters have an amazing chemistry that leapt of the pages. I am so ready to read more from this author. I loved the way the characters found themselves in the relationship or if that is what you want to call it. Sexy. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book.

So the first book in the series is about finding a sugar daddy, this one is about finding a sugar mama. In a touch of role reversal highly successful Kayla Arnold is too focused on her career to make time for men. When her looming high school reunion and a friend steer her towards a site where she can find an attractive companion so she doesn't haven't to brave the reunion by herself lead her to Devin Ford.
Devin is a perennial student who joins the site on a lark but then becomes Kayla's companion and date to the high school re-union. As the two work through their individual baggage together, not only do they find each other but they also recapture other relationships that they've neglected on the path and choices that they've made.
An interesting tale short and sweet.

Book 2 in the Sugar Series but Sugar & Spice can certainly be read as a stand-alone, I know this because I haven’t read book 1 and yet I still enjoyed every moment of this love story that took a few twists and turns along the way. This is one of those books that you hang with baited breath wondering which way it’s going to go, the characters have sizzling chemistry and are easy to love.
One of the things I loved about this story is it’s the woman who’s a sugar momma it’s the woman with all the power and for me that made this book seem like a very different romance to ones I would normally read. If you love romance reads please give Sugar & Spice a one click because I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to going back and reading book 1 in the series as soon as time permits as well as checking other books out by this author.

This was an interesting premise, a flip on the norm, and I completely and thoroughly enjoyed it! I was hanging on to every word, every action, and I was completely enthralled on how the whole situation play out. And turned around, and twisted, and turned again. The characters were completely likable, sweet, kind, and so lost, but so confident. They meshed perfectly. They were sexy hot together. They connected emotionally and brought me along for the ride!

Appreciated the twist

Christine d’Abo’s Sugar & Spice was an enjoyable read. It was fun to see the heroine, Kayla be the character with the money instead of the hero. Both Kayla and Devlin were likable characters. I thought the plot line moved well. A nice addition to The Sugar series.

Kayla and Simone were having their weekly lunch although Simone had been late that didn’t bode well for Kayla. It meant Simone was up to one of her crazy plans. Simone said she had found a website for Kayla. It was about sugar daddies. Simone said Kayla could be a sugar mama. Simone was Kayla’s dearest friend and had known Kayla before her business -Fashion Finds - made Kayla a multimillionaire. She’d been with Kayla through her rise to fame, her whirlwind marriage and her divorce. She knew all Kayla’s deepest darkest secrets. Simone always ,meant well when she showed up with one of her crazy schemes but Kayla knew better than to give into them. Simone was a journalist for the Toronto Record. Kayla had a routine that started at four am and work at seven am and after a long day home. The routine had been a boon to Kayla’s wounded soul after her husband Christoph had left her and said he had only been with her for the money five years ago. Devin woke up on the couch with a hangover and Ray was on the floor and quickly went to the bathroom and made it in time. Devin rarely overdrank but he had been celebrating, he had defended his PhD and it hadn’t sucked. Now he didn’t know what to do with his life. They had told cassue she needed a sugar daddy and she said she would sign up if they did for a sugar mamaand they did but Cassie didn’t. Devin looked at the site and the females profiles. The profiles highlighted their likes, interests, and desires. Kayla was still at her office at ten at night when Simone called her and then picked her up in an Uber and went to Kayla’s home and orders out and drank wine. Simone passed out and kayla pulled up the sugar daddies app and checked out the website again. They had pulled it up when Simone was still awake and she seen devin’s profile and Simpone said he would fit Kayla. She found Devin’s profile and hot email ,me now it was up to him. Devin was volunteering at the soup kitchen like he had for the last right years. It was one of the few times he felt his life had a purpose, a direction that it didn’t otherwise have. Sure he was smart, and could do complex math problems quickly but that never felt like it would leave an impact, maybe someday he would figure his life out. Devfin took a break grabbed a soda and checked his phone and saw he had a email from Kayla and he decided to answer her email as he thought who broke your heart pretty lady? Than he decided something like this might give him a lift, might help him settle down so he could think about what he wanted. Plus it would help paying rent for the next couple of months a bit easier. Than Devin saw his roommate and friend -Ray- was very distracted. Ray was usually a unending ray of sunshine . than he figured out after five years Ray’s mother breast cancer was back. Devin offered to do whatever he could including drive ray’s mom to chemo and sit with her during it. Ray looked a little better after and said that his mom would like yjay and it would help his dad out. Devin agreed to go out with Kayla to dinner. They set up a basis for their relationship. He also agreed to go with her to her home town for a week as she was heaving the HS library dedicated in her name for all the donations she had given to her old HS especially to the library. Kayla had also set uo scholarships for girls. The girls and their families wanted to meet Kayla and talk to her. Kayla had met Christoph at the Homecoming weekly celebration and he rushed her into a relationship and marriage. He had also tried to change her and got angry when she didn’t do what he wanted . than he cheated on her. Left her and told her he had only been with her for the money. He may be there during the week but she hoped not. Hardly anyone stuck up for Kayla besides Simone but devin just did while at dinner with the Alumni Selection Committee. These people didn’t care about Kayla, not really. They only cared about what she could do for them, what she represented. She was a showpiece not a person to them. Even Christoph had treated her like that. Devin wanted to kiss Kayla but that was against one of her rules but she told him sex was’t and when they got to te B&B Kayla and Devin had sex. But than after they were through kayla put her walls back up again. Devin went to his bed and Kayla to hers saying she was tired.
I loved reading this book. It was a great romance with a very intelligent man not knowing what to do with his life and a multimillionaire who happened to be a woman with a lot walls around herself. I loved how protective devin got of Kalya so quickly. I also loved how easily Devin fit in as her boyfriend even if it was a fake one. I loved how generous Kayla was especially to her old HS. I felt there was realism in this book especially how people came to Kayla with their get rich schemes. I loved Simone and protective and caring she was of kayla for no other reason than she truly cared about Kayla. I loved how kind and giving Gevin was. I loved the characters in this book and the ins and outs and I highly recommend it.

Reversal of the sugar daddy romance!

Millionaire business women Kayla Arnold hadn’t dated much since her divorce and her best friend forces her to sign up for a website after a night drinking to be a sugar daddy to have a date for her high school reunion where the library will be named after her because her ex-husband will be there. Kayla had done a lot for her old school to show other kids that there was more than the small town where she grew up.

Devin Ford was celebrating his finishing his PHD in mathematics when his friend convinced him to sign up for a sugar daddy website after a night celebrating. Devin had intended to delete his account when he was contacted by Kayla and after they hit it off, he went with her to the high school reunion.

Christine d'Abo has written a reversal of the normal sugar daddy book where the male is usually the one with the money to one with the female being the more powerful person in the relationship. Any romance reader will like Sugar & Spice because the romance is so good!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sugar and Spice by Christine d’Abo
Book #2: Sugar Series
Source: NetGalley and Lyrical Caress
My Rating: 4/5 stars

Kayla Arnold is a very wealthy woman thanks to her own creativity, determination, and hard work. Kayla Arnold is also a very lonely woman thanks to her own creativity, determination, and hard work. After a disastrous relationship in which her “partner” was far more interested in her wealth and the status she could provide him, Kayla is content to remain alone. Like in business, mistakes made on the personal level can be quite costly.

For so long, too long really, Kayla has been alone and while it hasn’t particularly bothered her in the past, the present is a different matter altogether. Her business is tremendously successful, her reputation within the industry is rock solid, yet she feels unsettled. Kayla attributes the feeling to two causes, she rarely has time anymore to create original designs and, she’s simply lonely. With little time for dating and/or meeting new people, Kayla has only one choice, the dreaded world of online dating.

While Kayla doesn’t have time to find her own online dating site, she does have a best friend with a wild idea. Her best friend proposes the Sugar Daddy site which won’t necessarily find Kayla the love of her life, but it will provide her with companionship. Though Kayla is reluctant, she does have an event or two coming up that would be far more manageable with a companion. That companion turns out to be the uber intelligent, if a little lost, but still ridiculously sexy, Devin Ford.

Devin may be super smart, but he has no idea what he wants to do with his life. What’s more, his shiny new PhD came with a huge price tag and he currently has no means of paying that bill. Though his friend punked him when she signed him up for the Sugar Daddy site, it seems to be paying off in the form of Kayla Arnold. According to their contract, Devin will earn a cool $10,000 for spending one week posing as Kayla’s boyfriend. Given Kayla’s appearance and general demeanor, the job won’t be a sacrifice at all and if they can build on their initial meeting, perhaps there will be more fun to be had beyond the fake boyfriend contract.

As expected, the week of events between Kayla and Devin reveal more about one another on both a personal and professional level. There is a genuine kindness in both Kayla and Devin that forms a basis for a real friendship and relationship. As Kayla grows to trust Devin, she reveals more of her past and begins to understand why she holds herself apart from others. The emotional vulnerability is hard on Kayla, but Devin finds ways to ease her pain and anxiety. Just as the two are moving toward something quite lovely, Kayla’s despicable ex makes an appearance and mucks up absolutely everything. With just the beginnings of relationship in place, Kayla and Devin both overreact, and all too quickly give up something that had the potential to be truly great.

The Bottom Line: Exactly what I was hoping for in this series happened in this book!! D’Abo didn’t limit the series to sugar daddies but went with a sugar momma and I loved it 😊 Both Kayla and Devin are sympathetic characters I liked instantly. I knew they were going to have to go through all kinds of crap to get to their HEA but every bit of awful is totally worth their ending. Aside from the romantic relationship, I particularly enjoyed the encounters between Kayla and the people of her past. Kayla is so broken and so jaded and her week back home both confirms and shatters those emotions and attitudes. Through most of it and where it really matters, Kayla maintains her kindness and professionalism, but when she needs too, she digs deep and unleashes some well-deserved anger. I like it, A LOT! I’m ready for more of this series and so glad it is in d’Abo’s skilled and practiced hands. A plot line such as this series has could easily become seedy and gross and in the hands of a less skilled author, it may well have done so. What you actually get with the Sugar series are real relationships wrapped in just the right amount of illicit and naughty.

Sugar & Spice by Christine d'Abo is book Two in the Sugar Series. This is the story of Kayla Arnold and Devin Ford. I have read the previous book, but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
In this book Kayla is the wealthy young women who after a failed marriage isn't looking for any commitments nor any stringy relationship. Kayla name is put on a Sugar Daddy/Mommy Site and she happens upon Devin's profile. Devin does need to pay off some student loans and after getting drunk his name is put on the sugar Daddy website and almost takes it off until he get a hit from Kayla. A bargain is struck between the two that he will take her to her class reunion and a few other events for a price. But both of them are starting to see the bigger price of their feelings and what they want after all. Enjoyed their story!

I received a free copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Enjoyable for its novelty. This book really turns the tables on the scenario that is seen so often in books these days. Instead of the rich man creating a relationship of convenience with the poor/less advantaged female, we are given the story of a strong, successful rich woman who has a somewhat damaged past as far as relationships go and is looking for a "relationship" of convenience with a man. Kayla is great, her emotions and personality feel very real and believable. Likewise, Devin comes across as an awesome and genuine character. I did have a little trouble though in believing the scenario created to bring them together in the first place. Definitely a very convenient plot device. That being said, I enjoyed their dynamic and watching their relationship change through the story. I feel like some resolutions reached later in the book were a little too easy and too convenient, but they didn't detract at all from my enjoyment overall. I hadn't read the first book in the series, so I think it is safe to say this can be read as a standalone, but I will definitely be going back and reading it now!

First time for me reading a book of Christine d'Abo! This was a 3,5 star for me! It was a well written story and overall it was a sweet romance read! I really loved the flirting and chemistry between Devin and Kayla!!

Kayla Arnold is a multimillionaire. She is lonely and still licking her wounds courtesy of her ex. Her best friend sets her up on a dating site-but not just any old dating site. It's for sugar daddy's and sugar momma's!

Devin Ford has his PhD but is struggling with what he wants to with his life. One night of drinking leads to finding himself on a sugar daddy site. Ready to delete his profile the next day, he changes his mind when he has a notification in his inbox. It couldn't to see it could it?

Kayla would like to attend her high school reunion, but doesn't want to go solo. After meeting Devin, she offers him an agreement. Devin has school loans that won't pay themselves, so he agrees to the arrangement. We already know where this is headed, but I love reading how we get there!

I am a super fan or the arranged marriage or contract type troupe! They are so much fun to read! I really liked Kayla and Devin. Both seem like people I could call my friends. They are people who are selfless with their willingness to help others. They do it because it makes them happy. Kayla with her money, and Devin with his time. Watching these two navigate the press, Kayla's ex, and their growing feelings was delightful. The supporting characters were fun too! All in all a good read!

Sugar and spice is a twist on pretty women. With Kayla being the rich tycoon and Devin being the "normal one". The twist is that Kayla has been married before and totally burned and jaded about live. Devin is a fresh faced student with loans to pay off. The story of course ends in love but starts uncoventually.
I love the fact that this is set on toronto for most of it.
A very differnt take on a old tale.

Sugar and Spice by Christine d'Abo is a sweet romance. I enjoyed getting a view inside the head of Devin and Kayla. What started out as a fake relationship from a website slowly and gradually grew into something with more substance. This sweet enduring read is a quick and lovely escape.

Arrangements never seem to never turn out how we expect or want, that is the situation with Kayla and Devin. Kayla needs a date for her reunion and she goes to a sugar daddy website where she find Devon who adds his picture after a night out with friends, they get together discuss the business arrangement and go on their way. At the reunion have issues with Kayla's ex who does not want to stay and Ex, but things change in this arrangement and their interest level with each other is about to get hotttttt..
