In the future a faction called the EFF has had humans genetically engineered to have bigger eyes, be smaller and die sooner in order to save Earth's dwindling resources.

The EFF feels that all resources should be used only on Earth and refuse to consider any other ideas. Their opposing faction (SCONA) wants to start Mars spinning again and terraform it so that humans have a new home. While SCONA gets ready for the Detonation Event by planting two thermonuclear devices deep in Mars's surface, the EFF members are doing everything possible to stop them. Things just get ugly from there.

This is the first book in a series yet it doesn't end on a cliffhanger. While some of the science is a bit shaky it's a good read and I am looking forward to the next book.

As the title suggests this starts out with a bang and one that arrives ahead of time. At its heart is the battle between those who want all efforts made on Earth and those who see space as part of the salvation of humans. I found a lot of this new and interesting. There are the changes to humans that most of us would not think are good changes. While the detonation event is part of the story there is also another event that has to be faced. As the story progresses the two events are woven together until they join near the end. This keeps all the main characters alive and kicking but leaves the big problems still to be solved. Stay tuned. The next book should be as wild a ride as Detonation Event.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

I'm waiting for earth to colonize mars. In the meantime, I'll just read various scenarios of this event. I found Detonation Event intriguing and complex. The premise is a bit typical with mars, a rouge virus, bad guys, etc. Despite this, it's an entertaining read for anyone who enjoys mars related fiction. The characters are likeable and the pace is good. A good read overall.

Try as I might, the informal casualness of the narrative, combined with the complexities of the technology described, made the story less accessible than I would have preferred.

I am looking forward to sequel. This book was non stop action. I enjoyed the original plot and characters. Story is believable.
