This was my first time reading Rebecca Brooks and I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish, it's one of my favorite tropes! Love a good friends to lovers, opposites attract, best friend's sibling romance. And there is so much chemistry between Shawn and Jessie it practically jumps off the page (or screen, since I read this on my kindle app). I loved seeing the evolution of the relationship between Jessie and Shawn, so hot yet also sweet and sometimes swoony!

Four years! Shameful of me. This is very much a me problem, not a book problem. Authors are writing too many things and I cannot keep up.

Wrong Bed, Right Roommate by Rebecca Brooks
Book One of the Accidental Love series
Publisher: Entangled Brazen
Publication Date: January 14, 2019
Rating: 4 stars

Summary (from Goodreads):

It's not every day you wake up to a stranger getting into your bed.
Only, he isn't a stranger at all, he's my best friend's hot older brother…and apparently my new roommate.
Having him in my space, driving me crazy, isn't a problem at all. Nope.
All I need to do is keep control of the situation…
But that's easier said than done.

Shawn Lassiter is the kind of distraction I don't need.
First he accidentally gets into my bed, half-naked, the night before my first day at my new job.
Hello, muscles and tattoos!
Then he's there, in nothing but a towel, making me coffee in the morning.
It's more than any girl can resist. Right?
But Shawn is off-limits, even if his eyes are saying differently.

Years ago, back when I still had my crush, he destroyed friendships with his reckless playboy antics.
There's no way I'm touching those perfectly formed abs now. I don't care how nice and responsible he's acting.
I don't want a boyfriend anyway. That's what my trusty vibrator is for.
I'm the smart girl—the glasses-wearing, book-reading workaholic. I can totally do this.
After all, it's only for two and a half months.
I'll be on my best behavior...even if Shawn isn't.

What I Liked:

This book was yet another one that I read in a grief-induced haze after my father's sudden death, in early 2019. I just reread it; it was exactly what I needed during my "winter break" - a sexy, funny, wonderful love story. I loved this story two years ago and I love it just as much as now. This book made me smile, fan myself, and put my hand over my heart.

This story follows Jessie, a smart, hardworking young woman who has just landed her dream job in publishing, and Shawn, a sexy, very single young man who is also starting a new job and trying to get his life together. Shawn's sister Talia is Jessie's best friend, and Talia lets Shawn sublet her half of the apartment for the summer in an attempt to help him get his life together. Much to Jessie's surprise! They have to share an apartment for the summer... sparks fly between Shawn and Jessie, and it's not long before they turn their roommate situation in something more. But Shawn has a reputation for his no-strings hookups, and Jessie doesn't want to hurt her best friend. How are things going to end?

I loved the chemistry between Shawn and Jessie. It was instant, hot, breathless chemistry. This book was seriously steamy - every interaction between Shawn and Jessie was destined to go a certain way. The author did not skimp on the heat. But their relationship becomes so much more. Shawn is so sweet with how he cares about Jessie and her crazy job, and Jessie believes in him and his new leaf in life. They are a great couple, even if they are somewhat of complete opposites. Shawn is very laid back and Jessie is very high-strung, but together, they balance each other and make each other better. Shawn is no longer the unmotivated playboy that he used to be, and Jessie learns to fight for what she wants, for herself.

I loved the chemistry. I loved the romance. The buildup of both tension and romance was lovely to read. There were so many positive interactions between Shawn and Jessie, and this book was so fairly drama-free (until the inevitable climax, with Talia). I love drama-free books! This may be a spoiler, but there were no drama tropes, like unplanned pregnancy, appearance of ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend, lies or deception or misunderstandings. I don't like any of those tropes, so I was really happy with how this story went.

Even the climax of the story wasn't too bad. Yes, there is a little drama with Talia finding out about them (we knew that was coming, this isn't a spoiler). But it wasn't too bad and it didn't last long.

The story ends wonderfully! I loved the epilogue and I appreciated the author including one. I haven't read any of the other books in this series, but I'm curious about them! Hopefully there are Shawn/Jessie cameos.

What I Did Not Like:

I kind of wanted a little more annoyance and irritation with Talia... she did cause drama between Shawn and Jessie. They are all adults, and Talia didn't need to be butthurt about her best friend dating her older brother (although in a way, I understood why Talia felt the way that she did). I wanted to see Jessie be even a little bit angry with Talia. Shawn was, but only for a moment. Talia DID do wrong in this story, and she eventually knows it and owns up to it and apologizes, but to me it still didn't seem like enough. Or maybe I'm petty! I'd need a little bit of time to be pissed at my friend if she got her panties in a bunch about me dating her brother. But that has never happened to me anyway...

Would I Recommend It:

If you like adult contemporary romance - especially ones with a cute romance between two fairly young 20-somethings, this is a great book for you. I think that's why I loved it so much and connected with the characters so well; the characters are my age and this story makes sense for the age group. The story is fun, sexy, and a very fast read. I loved it!

Rating:

4.5 stars -> rounded down to 4 stars. This book was great! It was a quick book to read and it's definitely one that I'll be rereading (again). I love the books that end up being comfort reads, and this is one of them. I'll be looking into the rest of the series!

Falling for the best friend’s brother may not be one of the most complicated tropes, but it may cause some issues and we will find out about some of them from Jessie and Shawn’s story. I liked them as a couple and I liked how each has to break some rules to be together. Somehow, they both get out of their comfort zone and find out it’s really great to do it.

Jessie has always been focused on anything she was doing, be that school, books or work. So having the opportunity to prove herself as an editor is a major thing. She must focus on her job, even though her roommate is... hard to ignore. Almost the same for Shawn – he realized he was good at something, he likes his bear and likes making it, he savors the process of creating that special aroma. And he also needs to prove his worth to his boss. Lust after his sister’s best friend has no place, especially since she is off limits (like: „been there, done that, but with another best friend of the sister. And then another...” ).

Sometimes, as much as you say „No”, it’s kind of visible you want to say „Yes” and when one (feel good) mistake happens, for sure the next will too. I liked how Shawn slowly started to break Jessie’s walls and how he managed to tempt her. There is another side of her, behind the glasses and the books.

There were some parts of the book where I had the impression that he did a lot for her, while in return she was not willing to do the same. I would have preferred to see them come together differently in the end. These are my only two negative comments.

All in all, this was one of those books that make you feel good and experience that first crush emotions. I read it in one sitting and I had a very fun time reading it. I hope you’ll enjoy it as well :) 4 stars! Happy reading!

This was okay. The writing flowed fairly well, but I wasn't a huge fan of the characters. They were both pretty immature, and while Jessie wasn't too bad, Shawn was. I didn't really like him as a hero. I don't have to have over the top alpha millionaires, but I would like a H with a little bit of ambition and strength. I'm not sure that I loved them as a couple, but they do get their HEA in the end. This was a first for me from this author, but I would definitely read her again.

I love a good best friend's brother romance and this one didn't disappoint. I enjoyed the chemistry and heat between Jessie and Shawn. I found Shawn to be an interesting character who was really trying to grow up and find himself. I enjoyed seeing this hot mess of a man working to improve himself and seeing how his relationship with Jessie brought out the best in him.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC from Netgalley.

I had high hopes for this novel. I loved the premise (one of my favorites) and the first couple of chapters. Then.... it tanked. I was tired of the hero who couldn't get off his hind parts to actually carry something through the whole way...like a job (and no, I don't expect every hero in a novel to be a billionare!). Seems he had an excuse for everything that didn't work out (rolling my eyes here).

And the heroine...Complete opposite. Always thinking about how hard she's worked. I was pretty done with that after a while. The novel had potential. It just didn't do it for me. On the bright side, the editing was very good.

After reading the blurb I knew I had to read this book and I’m glad I did. It was a quick fun and flirty read that I recommend.

I received this ebook copy from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.

I have read several “fall in love with best friends older brother” type books.
This one did not disappoint. Jessie and Shawn were hot and cute together!
It’s written from both of their POV and it helps understand what they are thinking and why they act the way they do.

Will look for other titles by this author!

A sweet romance with a sexy hero, what more can you ask for? I loved this book. Can't wait to read it again.

Many thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet, sexy romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!

This book was a delight. Writing this review has taken me a while only because I've been sitting here wondering how to describe something that hit all of my happy buttons... I've decided that the best way to tell you about it is just to tell you about the buttons. Here goes!

Button #1: Neighbors/Roommates
I adore this trope. It's forced proximity, which means that the two protagonists must deal with each other. AND it means that if they want to bang, they're frequently tempted. Author Rebecca Brooks takes it even further by adding in some of those early morning "let's make breakfast together" moments. The result is both filthy and sweet.

Button #2: Enemies to Lovers/Best Friend's Brother
Now that I'm listing them out, this book is just hella tropey?! The hero is taking over a sublet for his sister, who is the heroine's best friend for decades. This means that there's plenty of history, and in this case? It's not great. When Jessie was a shy teenager, her friends had crushes on Shawn, Talia's older brother. Unfortunately... Shawn slept with one of those friends. Then dumped her. And slept with the other one. Talia and Jessie remained friends, but there's always been a very clear line - DO NOT SLEEP WITH SHAWN.

Button #3: A Hot Mess Trying to Turn His Life Around
But now, Shawn is a grownup. He's been disappointing employers and partners, himself and his family for years. And now he's ready to make a change. He has a real job, with real responsibilities and a future. He might even be able to have a real relationship with Jessie, assuming Talia doesn't find out...

Button #4: Mature Adults Talk About Things
Thank goodness the bleak moment only lasts a chapter or two. Because we knew Talia was going to find out, right? And we knew she was going to be angry and everything would blow up. But we didn't know that Talia would *spoiler* and then everything would work out. (It's a romance, we knew about the HEA.)

Button #5: Scorching Sexytimes
All this angst and drama is glued together by some really well-written sex. There's a scene with a toy and it's *flames emoji.* There's a scene in a stairwell that is get-fired-and-not-care hot.

Here's how much I loved this book - I finished it at around 1:00 am and then went to the internet to find and buy Brooks' previous books.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher for review via NetGalley.

I really enjoyed this romance! It has a super great set-up, with Jessie needed to sublet half of the apartment she ususally share with her best friend. Shawn, the friend's HOT BROTHER takes the room, and the attraction is instantaneous, but also confusing. Jessie has always had a crush on Shawn, but he barely even remembers her. He is determined not to sleep with any of his sister's friends after making that mistake--twice!--in high school. I also really liked that both of them feel like legitimate 20-somethings worried about starting a career, being taken seriously as adults by their family members, and struggling financially. A short, fun, and sexy read

I enjoyed the idea of this book, the girl falls for best friends brother type, but I felt that the characters didn't show many emotions until the end and it were too focused on the sensuality side of their relationship. I did like that fact that we saw Shawn doing fun things with Jessie and showing her some fun times but it could have been a little more emotion based for me.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. When I read the title, "Wrong Bed, Right Roommate", I thought imagine all that could go wrong. Ms. Brooks took me on a rollercoaster ride and I loved every minute of it. Shawn is trying to prove to himself and everyone that knows him that he is no longer the teenage high school screw up. Jessie is trying to show that she deserves the job she landed and that she is no longer just a nerdy wallflower. I loved the sparks that flew between the two of them. I cheered, booed, laughed, felt sorry for, and rejoiced thru the entire book. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of Ms. Brooks books.

I really couldn't get into the book. I was thrown off and a little disgusted with Shawn and he is mostly the reason I couldn't finish the book. Let's begin with this line from the blurb "Years ago, back when I still had my crush, he destroyed friendships with his reckless playboy antics." Do you wanna know what he did? He slept with 2 (yes, not 1 but 2) of his sister's friends. He took the virginity of the first one and in a week he slept with the second one. That is mentioned a few times, which was something we didn't need. Just say that he is a playboy. He will have basically have slept with all of his sister's best friends and it's not good. And in the present things are not much better. I was feeling that he didn't mature a bit since high school and this book is not only the beginning of his relationship with the heroine but also the beginning of his life as an adult who is trying to have a normal life. No one took him seriously and I couldn't root for him. I was also feeling like he wasn't serious about his "new life"

This book was just okay for me. I liked the plot and how they came together, but their relationship seemed largely based on a physical connection. I loved the trip they took sightseeing in NYC. I think if more time was spent on moments like this (instead of ones in the bedroom) I would have felt more of an emotional connection between the characters.

The end fell extremely flat for me.

This book was funny, entertaining and so much fun to read. I loved every chapter of this story and felt that each character was important to the plot and continuation of the storyline. I thought that the author made the book so enjoyable thanks to the words and pictures she built with the words. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book.
