The author cleverly created a storyline with beautiful illustrations that's perfect for children and suitable for adults that gets the main message across; every cloud has a silver lining. Never let pride get in the way. Ask for help when needed. It's a clear and meaningful message that lives on to the end of our short life. So, with a little encouragement the student of Hope becomes the teacher. Spread the word and share amongst others. It will only lead to positive outcomes.

I send my gratitude to NetGalley and National Center for Youth Issues for this ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

This was a sweet, illustrated book about being the light to someone who's downhearted and sad. It had a very good message.

*I received a copy of this book from its publisher on NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. This is my honest review and all opinions are my own.

The main character is a candle who’s light is getting dimmer. But another candle comes to their aid and gives them some more light -hope.

This book is about not giving up and finding the courage to keep going. It not only teaches that it is possible to clear away the dark clouds that only you can see, but it is also okay to ask for help. Hope is important, especially in todays world, and this book does it justice.

I adored this book and i think kids will too.

Loved this book! A Flicker of Hope sends such a strong and positive message to younger children about mental health. This book covers topics like depression, anxiety, self-esteem and loss. It's beautifully written and the illustrations are gorgeous!

This is a great book that helps parents open a dialogue with their children about when you feel like things are only bad. With the prevalence of cyber bullying and the way that it spills into the physical world today, it's important that parents are aware of the validness of their child's feelings and of the resources that are available to help them help their child. One of the things that I especially liked about this book is that it talks about how only you can see you clouds and that it's okay to tell someone that you're not okay. This is definitely a book that we will be purchasing for our library and that I will be recommending to friends who work with children, especially those in at risk communities.

This book held such a positive message for younger children who are suffering from feelings of depression, anxiety, ,loss, etc. The way this author articulates the feelings of loss due to suicide and depression are done so well for this age group. The illustrations were beautiful!

The book, A Flicker of Hope, deals with children who are feeling depressed but may not know that's the right word for what they are feeling. It uses candles as an example of how light can come in when you are feeling dark. The book also gives examples of things that may be causing people to feel depressed. I loved the message and thought that it would really resonate with children. However, my one critique is that I'm not sure of the intended audience. The size of the book and the pictures seemed to be aimed at kids (ages 5-7 ish?). But the examples of why kids were feeling depressed (will I get into college? or getting a C on a Physics exam) are aimed at high school students. While I think the book could be helpful for either age group, there is a disconnect. The high school student may balk at the childish-ness of the pictures and words while it may be over the head of an elementary school student.

This book honestly made my chest tighten. It's a beautiful story about reaching out to others when your inner light begins to get dark. It's about overcoming depression, overcoming tough times, by asking for the help of others. I love it.

I thought this book was really cute! It reminded me of the book "Have You Filled a Bucket Today" but I like the light analogy so much more than the bucket one. I loved how the story sort of cycled back to the beginning with Little Candle repeating all the things she was told when she needed help.
There were a few pages that I was confused on. One being that the target audience of this book seems like they shouldn't be on instagram so that part was kind of strange, and the pages about light going out to soon seemed like alluding to suicide but I wasn't sure if it was meant to.
I really enjoyed reading this and think that it will be great for kids of all ages who both need help knowing it's okay to ask for help as well as encourage them to give others help. I love that Little Candle got to be both because that's very accurate for life.

The message in this book is one that everyone needs to hear and absorb every day. It was such a touching book and done in a way that is easy to grasp and internalize, especially if you are young. I love how the candle characters show that although we have our own trials and bad days to hurdle over, we all deal with very similar things. When you think you are the only one having a bad day and not coping well, there are other out there who are dealing with similar, if not the same issues. As a child, I lost my Mom at a very young age and this book would have been nice to read and remind me that, while life can be tough, you will always get through and that you can help inspire hope in others who need it. I also adore the bright and whimsy illustrations are colors are in this book. They really grab you and can cheer you up. Each candle is different; I think that an important point to drive home, that we all look different and come from different places, but we are all still human and susceptible to the same feelings.

I wanted to read a book to pass my time in a quick manner. So I was browsing through and I saw this book and picked it up.I finished it in 15 mins or less( didn't track). This is beautifully illustrated and written though a children's book I am so much feeling relief of having read it. It's so uplifting, sometimes when u grow up too u need encouragement and I feel like this book has given me a way out of my clouds. I am tempted to buy This for my little brother and myself too.
You just need to pick this book up and not read reviews.

The message of this book is one we definitely need in today's society - sharing hope and helping one another. The "dark clouds" of worry had universal concerns which all children and teens could relate to. However, while I understand the book has been written for a wide age group, the use of 'being blasted on instagram' as a concern could be changed to something more universal in all age groups. The illustrations were simplistic but colourful which would hold young children's attention well. I would highly recommend this title for parents and teachers of young children, as well as for middle grade or junior high English teachers.

Wow! This book is so well done. The illustrations connect perfectly to the story. The story could literally be a lifesaver to some children who feel hopeless. I loved that it gave examples of ways to ask for help when feeling hopeless instead of just stating what someone should do. It describes the ways that someone might feel hopeless and also gives examples of why they might feel hopeless, such as losing a loved one or not being as good at something as friends. It is written by counselors with many years of experience and seems to be a very useful resource for parents and schools.

Everyone needs a little hope sometimes. Everyone can be a Hopebuilder. What a powerful message presented in A Flicker of Hope! The concept of hope and how it effects your outlook is a theme that is not often talked about, but is desperately needed, especially amongst children. This beautifully illustrated story book will help children understand and discuss the concept of hope and how to be a Hopebuilder to those around them. Another home run by Julia Cook!
