I really loved this book in a new to me author. The characters and location really and to the story. I can't wait to read the next one. This book keeps you guessing until the end.

After She's Gone had a lot of potential but ultimately fell flat for me. There was something that kept me from connecting with the characters but I can't put my finger on exactly what.

Detective Malin Brundin is sent to Ormberg, her small hometown, to investigate the death of a young child. Her hometown isn’t very welcoming to strangers and so she’s expected to pave the way for the investigation. Matters are complicated even more when the two others investigating the crime are in trouble. Hanne, a profiler who is suffering from early onset dementia, was found in the forest alone and confused and her partner, Peter Lindgren is missing. The only clue as to what happened to the two lies with a mystery woman who was seen when they found Hanne. Unfortunately the woman they are looking for is Jake, a teenager who has his share of secrets. Although this book features some of the characters from The Ice Beneath Her, I would say it can be easily read as a standalone and if you enjoy Scandinavian crime fiction, then I would say this is a good one to check out.

This was an excellent mystery novel. It was very well written and the descriptions of the brutal weather were very realistic, as were the characters. The story line itself was an unexpectedly unusual one, which made this a real pleasure to read. I very strongly recommend this to anyone looking for an out of the ordinary, fabulous read.

The book was ok. I knew what was going to happen before it happened. It wasn't very suspenseful for me. I did have, at times, a hard time following who was talking as it was 3 POV's. It was an ok book, just not very gripping or attention-grabbing for me.

Camillia Grebe is back with another Unputdownable novel. I'm a huge fan of Camillia Grebe I've read The Ice Beneath Her, that I highly recommend to crime fans. I've also read More Bitter Than Death. I was so right to be excited about reading After She's Gone, it has taken my top star spot. Once I started reading this story I couldn't stop. If you haven't read books by Camillia Grebe, please try this one, I'm sure you will become a fan of Camillia Grebe too.
It's quite heartbreaking when psychological profiler Hanne and Peter are investigating a criminal investigation of an cold case that's been opened up once again, it's of a skeleton of a little girl that was found in the woods eight years ago, it broke my heart to read that she was never identified and worse still the perpetrator was never found. Now the thing that I loved reading about is that when Hanne Langerlind-Schon was found in cold weather in the forest she was suffering from hypothermia & confused, she couldn't remember anything, & here is an ongoing problem that we are all to aware today dementia. It is now feared that Hanne's could be suffering from dementia.

While I generally like the scandinavion noir thrillers, this one did almost nothing to me. I found it lacked speed and therefor got complicated, there were too many different storylines, all clouding the mystery, but not necessarily in a good way. As to the characters: not enough background/psychology to make them authentic

I enjoyed this latest installment to this series. I liked the different story lines going on at once. It felt like the story moved pretty quickly because of it. I liked who the bad guy was. I didn't see that coming.

After She's Gone totally blew me away with its outstanding storyline that absolutely managed to shock and surprise me. It's an intense read but a rewarding ones for those who can handle in depth and more than slightly terrifying psychological suspense mixed with a killer thriller aspect!

This one definitely sent a chill through me reading this. I absolutely throughly enjoyed this one! I love a good crime mystery and I loved the heartfelt touches in it that added even more depth to this! Great read! This one is probably gonna be a movie! The book is always better so read it first quick!

A great read that was much more than I expected. The jacket description drew me in with it's unique twist. The characters felt real when trying to make decisions and looking for answers. The events dialed the tension up as they stumbled with memory loss and cross dressing, how could anyone take a young man serious who gets a thrill from cross dressing? As the criminals take more victims, will we learn who and why? A different story line that turned into a great thriller.

This is the second book by Camilla Grebe featuring psychological profiler Hanne Lagerlind-Schon and investigator Peter Lindgren. I really enjoyed the first book, The Ice Beneath Her, and have been anxiously awaiting more from Camilla Grebe and this latest installment does not disappoint.

This story pulled me in right from the start and while a little slower than I would have liked, it did keep me intrigued and invested in what was going on. I wanted to know what had happened to the young woman. On top of that I loved the way the story is told, alternating between three points of view. There is Malin, a young police woman who is originally from the area; Hanne, who has just been found wandering the woods, barefoot and bleeding and is unable to remember why she is there; and Jake, a teenager who stumbles upon a diary that holds secrets about the case.

I loved how when we were in Jake's parts, we would get snippets from the diary. This added to the suspense of the book...slowing the pieces are revealed but it's a slow-burn and you are left wondering just how they will all come together.

Each of the characters had their own issues and I felt each were explored quite well. Hanne is dealing with dementia and not wanting to face it just yet. Jake is trying to figure out his affinity for cross-dressing and Malin is trying to find her place in the world.

This was a gripping, atmospheric read and I hope that it is not the last we have seen of Hanne and her team. I enjoy Camilla's writing and look forward to seeing what comes next from her.

Local police identify her as psychological profiler Hanne Lagerlind-Schön, who, with her partner, had been helping investigate the cold case of a young woman’s murder. Hanne begins to recover but cannot recall anything about where her partner is, or what their investigation had uncovered before her disappearance. Police have only one lead: a young woman in a sequined dress who was spotted nearby the night Hanne was found.

This is not just my fave Nordic Noir crime novel to date, this is not just amazing with description of Sweden landscape and culture, this is a book of social commentary with one of the worlds most important problems: refugee populations displaced then rejected in the areas the country decides to resettle them in. In the United States after 9/11 refugee populations have not always been warmly embraced, and the news does not report how other countries feel about refugee populations getting assistance. I was unaware that Sweeden suffered from unemployment or their manufacturing jobs being outsourced, this book was an eyeopener on many intelectual levels. I enjoyed the multiperson narrative, and loved the sensitivity in which the author allowed Jake to become his own man and find his own voice, and this book should be recommended to teens . Sexuality should not be a topic that is hidden behind doors, and I am glad Jake' sister is accepting him for all of his qualities. This is an important book, and I hope the publisher enters "After She's Gone"for a mystery award in the US,but even that does not seem to be enough for the caliber of the topics, and prose that this book has between its pages. It is a cinematic masterpiece , and I am sure it will remain in my top ten faves of 2019.

If teenage sexuality, refugee displacement, and the economic crisis of the world is not enough importance to cram into a novel, the main character Hanne has early stages of dementia and is not remembering things without writing everything down in her diary. Altzheimers is a scary disease, claiming the minds of brilliant people, and its easy to sweep topics under a rug, but unashamed with machine gun precision Camilla Grebe gives us much to think and talk about #Netflix..this would make an amazing movie.

This is the first Nordic mystery I’ve read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. In this book, a cold case investigation becomes a missing persons case, when one of the detectives is found injured and her partner missing. The story is told from three points of view and the suspense and uncertainty slowly crescendos into a final breathtaking ending.

The story is filled with twists and turns and the characters are interesting, unique and unforgettable. I found myself drawn to several of them, including Jake and Saga, navigating the world of adults while still in their teenage years, Malin, a young detective who has a personal connection to the cold case she has been assigned to, and Hanne, a brilliant criminal profiler who is facing her own demons.

While there is an element of xenophobia in this book, it is germane to the story. I will admit I nibbled off at least one fingernail while reading After She’s Gone. I would give 4.5 *s but will round my rating up to 5. It was a great read!

I saw this book on NetGalley and it looked really interesting! I had a pile of books to read, but I was so excited to start this one once some of the others were finished. One of the main characters is a criminal psychologist (the profession I hope to be in someday) and another was (possibly) transgender. On top of that, the mystery sounded so cool, but once I started reading I didn't love this book as much I thought I would. That's not to say it was bad, it just didn't really hook me in until two thirds of the way through.

Almost ten years ago, Malin stumbled upon the bones of a young girl. Now a detective, Malin is assigned to the girl's cold case. Two of her colleagues -- Hanne, a criminal psychologist, and Peter, a detective, both from Stockholm -- go missing. Hanne is found by a teen boy in women's clothes, her memory gone, but Peter is still missing. The book follows the boy, Jake, and Malin as Peter's disappearance is investigated, along with the murder of the girl from years before.

I didn't love the author's writing style, though I appreciated how direct it was. It sort of reminded me of Gillian Flynn in some ways, but not quite as dark and sarcastic. The characters...it was hard for me to connect with them. I loved Jake -- he was so easy to care about, even when he made weird decisions. Hanne was also easy to like with her pure heart and intellect. Malin, as one of the point-of-view characters, wasn't as likable. I understood some of her thoughts and ideas, I appreciated the difficult events of her life, she's a great detective...but she was hard to care about until the very end of the book.

Honestly, I felt similarly about the plot as I did the characters. Everything made some sense when it came together at the end, though there were some pieces that seemed to come out from nowhere. It was the last third that hooked me, but that's also where things were a little unexpected.

If you like mystery, if you like books that have diverse characters, then you may like this book. I didn't read the first one before I read this, so that could be part of why I didn't love it. Make sure you read the first book!

I was a bit nervous to read this book because it is the second in a series. I have not yet read the first one, but I heard this one worked as a standalone. I enjoyed this one and did not feel lost without having read the first one already! Since reading this book, I have now gone back and read the first one and enjoyed that as well! As any other mystery/thriller, the story had so many twists and turns that left me guessing until the end. It did tend to get a little stale and slow in some parts, but the exciting fast-paced parts made up for it. I look forward to reading future books from this author.

I really couldn't get into this book. The beginning is very slow. There were many things I didn't understand as the book is set in Sweden(?) and has many local terms and I haven't read the earlier book in the series. I kept getting distracted by things like, why is Jake's name amusing? It really felt like i was missing half the book.

However, I kept reading and by the end of the book, decided it wasn't terrible. It just wasn't for me.

Malin is young police officer who is forced to return h=to her home town to solve a cold case - the case of a murdered child whose very body Malin discovered when she was a teenager. In returning to Ormberg, a dismal town where industry and hope died long before, Malin is forced to confront old memories that she would rather keep buried. when two of the other detectives who are working the case disappear, the case takes on further significance. Grebe creates tension by merely describing the atmosphere of hopelessness that reigns in Ormberg as well as giving fully realized characters and a thrilling story with an unforeseen twist. Great writing! I will definitely read more of Grebe's work.
