Dystopian fiction is one of my favorite genres, so I am always on the lookout for new titles. I was eager to get my hands on this one. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The scenario was unrealistic and the characters were uninspiring and wooden. I wanted to put this book down early but I plowed on to finish.

I would not recommend this novel to my students.

I kept going with this book. Because the story was kind of intriguing to me. I like dystopian as a genre usually. This one was just not for me. It just kept going and going and going and I just was not a fan. I wanted to see how it ended so I skimmed a whole bunch. Anyway, I can’t recommend. I wish I could. Maybe this would make a good tv show? It just seemed like it kept going. And going. And going. And I just wanted it to be over.

For people who enjoy realistic dystopian fiction, this would be a great book recommendation. There is nothing unique about this book that sets it apart from other books I have read in this genre, but I did find the setting and backstory to be very plausible. I also thought it was very romantic to have one character trekking across the United States to be reunited with his faraway love.

There was nothing particularly surprising about this story (no plot twists); however, it kept a steady pace and was a pretty quick read. I had a little bit of trouble at times following the plot because the formatting was off in my ARC copy (it would switch POV without warning), but I assume this will be fixed when the book goes through its final edits.

This was an interesting story about the aftermath of the end of the world.
It mostly revolves around two characters, Beatrix and Carson,and what they are trying to achieve.
I enjoyed Carson's tale more than Beatrix's. He came across more genuine and likable.
Though I found a few parts of the story a little slow, overall a good book.

I thought The Lightest Object in the Universe was really interesting. I can definitely imagine that it isn't for everyone, but I do think I have some patrons who will enjoy it as much as I did. I've gone ahead and added several copies to my orders. Thank you so much!

I like the premise of the story. What will happen to the world if all electricity stops? No real explanation of why this happens but that is not the story here. This would have been much more enjoyable if the author had focused more on the jouneys of the two lovers that the deep conversations they had on the way.

What would happen if the power grid failed? This novel is beautifully written. The smells, sounds of silence,and the bright sky we so often do not acknowledge are brought to our awareness.

I loved the characters. Some of the story line was predictable but it is a page turner! This book made me want to dig out my camping equipment and Field guide to Edible Plants of North America!

The author‘s strengths are in the details, in the white film on an older bar of chocolate, the garbage in the hallway, the flat rind of an orange. While the book brings beauty to dystopia, I had trouble relating to the characters and can guess at the rest of the story. I’m leaving this unrated because I didn’t finish.

I was absolutely enthralled by this novel. I followed Carson and Beatrix and Rosie page after page and read deep into the night. I deeply admired the writing, but what I loved the most was that this novel didn't seem so much dystopian (I'm not a huge fan of dystopia) as a true living breathing human drama with characters I cared so deeply about. Just a brilliant novel.

In this story, civilization collapses, electricity, phones and cars are a thing of the past. Carson tries to traverse the country to find his love Beatrice, on the way meeting many survivors. I did not love the characters or the story.

The premise of this book seemed like something I would really enjoy but it turned out it wasn’t for me. It was still an enjoyable read, just hard for me to get through.
