This is SUCH a cute book (and pretty relatable for cat owners everywhere). I just added it to my library collection to use in a lesson with younger students about writing step by step directions. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!

How to Give Your Cat a Bath is a funny and creative story about a little girl giving her cat a bath. The writing style reminds me a lot of the “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” books. This makes for a super fun bedtime or bath time story and is sure to get a laugh for the story and illustrations.

A highly accurate representation of what will happen if you try to give your cat a bath. Chaos will ensue. It will be anarchy. Things will get weird.

Loved the illustrations and the story. Perfect for anyone of any age who loves cats.

How to give your cat a bath is just hilarious. I will be reading this book to my elementary students in the library as soon as it comes out. If you love cats, I think this book is especially for you!

Hahahahahahahaha. This book was fun. Just what you would expect when trying to give your cat a bath. I will tell you the most important part. Step One: fill the bath with water. To see the other steps, read and laugh on your own. It’s worth it.

'How to Give Your Cat a Bath: In Five Easy Steps' by Nicola Winstanley with illustrations by John Martz is a laugh out loud picture book about a task that is anything but easy.

Step One: Fill the bath with water, only works if you don't overfill the bath and have to start over. Putting your cat in the bath only works if the cat hasn't decided to bolt out of the bathroom. And it goes on from here to be a silly adventure about something that is anything from simple and complicated by things like having to stop and eat a cookie.

This book is really a lot of fun to read. The illustrations add to the wackiness of the story being told. I think young readers will have a fun time with this one.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra Books, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

This book consists of instructions from a narrator on how to give a cat a bath and a young girl’s attempt at doing so. The concept of the story is a good one although I am not certain that it works here. The different dialogues are confusing and blend together.

I enjoyed the illustrations. They were cute and funny.

A good book for imitating the voices of different characters.

A "how to" picture book holds great potential for humor since there's great opportunity for misadventure, either through misunderstanding or inability. Or, in this case, the general silliness and chaos that generally comes from trying to bathe a cat.

This book could be titled “How to Give Your Cat a Bath in Five Not-So-Easy Steps,” or “How to Give Your Cat a Bath in Five Not-So-Easy Circuitous Steps,” but the this is a picture book for very small children, and such a title would be unwieldy. Besides, it took the little girl in the book way more than five steps to figure out the best way for her cat to get clean. The efforts of the little girl and the antics of her reluctant little cat are depicted in cute and colorful illustrations. This fun and funny book will be enjoyed over and over again.

This is absolutely hilarious. I laughed out loud while reading it. It’s a spot on explanation for how to give a cat a bath, in a step by step format. It’s so funny and clever, and it has a lot of voice for such a short book, with so little text. It perfectly conveys a variety of emotions and reactions, which adds a lot to the story.

This will be such a great read for a storytime group, because it’s so funny. The illustrations are delightful. Anyone who has met a cat, or owns a cat, can probably relate to this. I’m a dog person, but having grown up with a wide variety of pets, including cats, I’m totally amused and charmed by this one. It gets all my stars.

My kids would have given this book 100 stars if they could have. How to Give Your Cat a Bath (in 5 steps!) is a hit at our house. We have cats so it made the story even more funny. Cats are funny creatures! Who knew that 5 steps would turn into 10 steps! This book is great for introducing kids to instructions and lists. The book also encourages looking for humor and being flexible if things don't turn out as they are supposed to.

How to Give Your Cat a Bath by Nicola Winstanley is such a fun picture book! It tells the story of a little girl who is trying to follow the steps on giving her cat a bath. However, since cats don't love baths so much, she has struggles and the steps end up being revised to something much easier.

This was a really fun book to read! I will probably use this book with my middle schoolers as a way to introduce how-to writing. I will also be reading this book with my nieces and nephews very soon!

This is a very cute children's book. The subtitle is how to give your cat a bath in 5 easy steps. Well 5 steps turned into 10 steps then into 1 step. You could help teach your little ones cause and effect with this book. If you need to give your cat a bath read this book first to find out how to complete the task.

My four year old daughter wanted me to give this book 10 stars but I said the highest I could give it is was 5. My daughter loved the book and thought it was quite hilarious that the girl had to keep finding ways to get her cat, Mr. Flea, into the bathtub. I'm sure other preschoolers and early elementary kids will find delight and humor in the funny pictures and dialogue of the little girl trying to follow the 5 easy steps to give her cat a bath. The ending of the book is "purr"fect. I highly recommend this book to other families and teachers of young children. It would make a great book for a teacher read aloud or as a mentor text for teaching "how to writing." Thank-you NetGalley for an ARC of this book. All thoughts expressed are my honest opinions of the book.

Nicola Winstanley and John Martz have teamed up to bring us the hilarious How to Give Your Cat a Bath in Five Easy Steps. This book had The Bear and The Bee in stitches! They asked me to re-read it five times in a row and noticed something different in the illustrations everytime to make them laugh even harder.

Nicola Winstanley has completely captured the absurdity of trying to bathe a cat. I love the progression of the illustrations from the beginning with a nice organized home to the end where it looks like a tornado blew through. John Martz clean, simple illustrations are the perfect complement to this silly story. How to Give Your Cat a Bath is a fantastic master text to inspire instructional writing, infused with so much humour! The step by step instructions paired with the clean illustrations gives new writers an excellent example of what they can do with their own writing. Cat lovers everywhere will really enjoy this fun story.

Princess Fuzzypants here: How to give your cat a bath? This book proves what we kitties have said since time immemorial: Don’t!
It is actually a very sweet children’s book that has adorable artwork showing the brilliant puss avoiding all the human traps and escaping. It is very cute and has a good moral. It is far wiser to let the cat bathe him or herself.
It is easier and safer.
Four purrs and two paws up..

A pink-haired little girl struggles to show each step of bathing a white cat with a pink nose named Mr. Flea. Though each step sounds easy most of us know the hard part in this equation consists of one word: cat.

Step One is to fill the bath with warm water. But if you're a little girl you might just overfill the tub. So with a sigh, after the tub runs over, the step is reworded.
"Step One Put a little warm water in the bath. The water should come up to your cat's knees."
In the background we see Mr. Flea jumping from the shelf he has been observing from and disappearing off the page.

The unseen narrator of this story assumes each simple task will be easy to accomplish.

Step one: fill the bath
Step two: put the cat in the bath
Step three: put shampoo on the cat
Step four: rinse the cat
Step five: dry the cat

But as most of us might guess, Mr. Flea has no intention of doing any of these simple steps. The little girl soon realizes she needs more energy to complete these tasks, so she heads to the kitchen to locate some milk and cookies.

My Thoughts

What Concerned Me: Nothing

What I Liked Most: This step-by-step guide is something most can imagine happening. The illustrations are priceless as we see the bathroom and house turned topsy turvy.

Thanks to NetGalley, Tundra Books, and Nicola Winstanley for an advanced copy of this book. My opinions, as always, are unbiased.

The text is clear and child appropriate. The illustrations are fun and give the reader a chance to find the cat, while he hides from his bath. The ending is surprising, yet logical. Overall, this is a great book for a pet story time.
