Hindsight is 20/20 and Geneen definitely had hindsight after Bernie Madoff took her life savings and used it in his Ponzi scheme. Her and her husband lost everything.

As someone who listens to Dave Ramsey and uses Mint on a fairly regular basis to keep track of my finances, I am sometimes obsessed with my finances. Other times I don’t even want to think about them. In her book, Geneen starts to compare sticking to a budget to sticking to a diet. We kinda sorta take advantage of the cheat day, and before you know it your diet (budget) is blown.

Kaboom.

This book was so revealing, so touching, and I dare you to read it and not relate to something. And her message is so simple, one that you might have even heard in a yoga class — at least that is the message that I took from it. Have compassion for yourself.
