Set in, what would have been outback Australia, before the second World War, it tells the story of murder, politics and captures the feeling of the country in that period of time.
It was a very well written and interesting book, I live in Australia and the story certainly captures the era and the people. The mystery harps back some years, and in the telling, evokes much of the loathing for the dead man. I would not say this was an enjoyable tale but it certainly brings to mind how times have changed.
I did appreciate this book, the capture of the era and people, and the well built mystery to its final conclusion. I also loved the narratives which started every chapter. I really would recommend it who is interested in the more serious side of a mystery, and enjoys the look back in time.

Australia, murder, historical-places-events, historical-research, historical-figures, historical-setting

1933 in Australia where the political scene is uncertain and the world around is polarizing into some frightening camps. Rowland shares his large home with fellow misfits and continues to grow as a artist.
It is a family history, and by necessity it is also a segment of Australia's part in world history. Whatever else it is, it is a riveting book in a fascinating series! This one centers about the unpublicized murder of Rowley's father and the fallout from it.
The author is awesome, the series is additive, and Rowley is just so lifelike. Hope the next one comes out soon!

I love this series and I loved this book.
It's a lovely comedy of manners and a very good mystery.
I started it as soon as I got it and couldn't put it down.
It's lovely to meet again Rowland, Edna and the cast of characters, like meeting again some old friend and getting to know what happened and what changed.
The mystery is good, entertaining and engaging, full of twists and turns. It kept me guessing till the end and I was surprised by the unexpected ending.
I love the style of writing and I love the mix of historical fiction and mystery.
I love this series because they are good mysteries and the historical background is well researched and somehow it seems to reflect the current historical moment.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to Poisoned Pen Press for this ARC
