Thankyou to NetGalley, Bloodhound Books and the author, Betsy Reavley, for the opportunity to read a digital copy of Murder In The Dark in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.
Such a good read. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
The storyline was well thought out and written. The characters are well drawn and intriguing. Certainly cannot wait for more from this author.
Worth a read.

This was a police procedural set in the UK with a series of murders occurring in the days leading up to Christmas. There were a lot of details provided in the book that seemed to "weigh down" the plot, information that didn't move things along and made those sections drag and didn't add to the overall plot; the possible flirtation between co-workers, the timing of the murders, and where the police would rather be. The reason for the murders and those responsible was nothing I could have predicted and the ending to the story sort of made up for the slower parts of the plot.

Mal etwas anders in der Herangehensweise und dem Ablauf: Sehr gefälliger Schreibstil, hat mir sehr gefallen, alles schön rund.

Murder in the Dark is an intriguing mystery set during winter. The descriptive and picturesque settings made you feel like you were in this little village during the holiday season, which made for a cozy read. The journey of the police investigation and the introduction of many different characters helped keep the reader interested and guessing how it would end. Murder in the Dark is a follow up to Murder at the Book Club, but having not yet read that book, I was able to feel like I didn't miss anything, this does great as a stand alone.

Thank you NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for an Advanced Reader Copy.

This book was unfortunately not for me, but I am very moody about my books, so if at a later date it grabs me, I will update my review.
I will use in a challenge and let members of Chapter Chatter Pub know it’s released!

Well written murder mystery with my favorite setting, a quaint little bookstore. Loved the plot and enjoyed the author’s writing. I received an arc from Netgalley and this is my unbiased review.

Started a bit slow but then I got into it. It is an interesting story and does have some twists to keep you guessing. I’m not familiar with the cozy mystery genre; exactly what that means. It is not an edge of your seat suspense ride. Nor is it horrifying in the details of both the crimes and the characters.

This is a series but can be read as a stand alone. Everything is wrapped up in the end so you can choose to continue or not. It was quite sad, the motive, but an apt conclusion. Good writing. The segue between the multiple narrators was handled well. Overall a solid read, would recommend. I want to check out her other book - The Optician’s Wife. That looks pretty awesome.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Bloodhound Books for a copy in exchange for a review.

What an opening this book has! Wooooweeee! This book is bound to draw you in. Now I must admit I haven’t got round to reading Murder in the Book Club yet but this reads perfectly fine as a standalone with only a few references to the previous book. Don’t worry I will be going back to read it at some point, I promise.

I throughally enjoyed reading this one. Not your average murder, killing story. Different. Unique. Watch out the book community you’re not safe either. A fast paced, page turner of a read. Brilliantly written. A story you don’t want to put down. I could easily have read this in one sitting if life didn’t get in the way.

I did feel sorry for Tilly having to deal with what she saw, that would be hard for anyone. Highly recommend! A brilliant brilliant. A well deserved four stars.

Tilly Edgely lands a position working at Ashton’s bookshop in Cambridge she thinks she’s found her perfect job. But one winter’s morning, when she arrives to open up, she discovers the body of her boss suspended from the ceiling, hanging by a rope around his neck. DCI Barrett and DI Palmer are called to the scene and quickly find themselves searching for a twisted killer whose identity and motive are nearly impossible to trace.

Murder In The Dark was an engrossing, page turner of a read. It isn’t a fast paced read but more of a steady one that will keep you hooked through out.

Another 5 stars for this fantastic author! DCI Barrett and DI Palmer are called to the scene of an apparent suicide by hanging of the owner of a Cambridge bookshop, discovered by one of his young employees It appears to the seasoned pair of detectives that it is obviously a murder, especially when they discover the victim is missing a finger. Delving into the life and family of Dennis Wade, the police think they may have a viable suspect and motive...until a second body turns up. I would call this book a good gentle police procedural story with well drawn and likeable lead characters. The plot is strong and keeps the reader glued to the book right till the end with an unexpected twist that is still believable. This book is a follow up to "Murder at the Book Club" but works perfectly well as a stand alone novel. Highly recommended.

I thought this was a good book. I enjoy reading books that make e question what I am reading. I like not being able to figure everything out from the first few chapters. This was the first book that I have read by this author and I am looking forward to continuing to read more. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book.

Thanks to Bloodhound Books and NetGalley for providing an ARC in return for a review.

I give this novel 3.5 stars, primarily because I didn’t find the characters engaging enough to pull me in.

This cozy mystery was told from a variety of perspectives yet it felt distant or detached to me. The police team brought strong procedural elements to the story, and that was my favorite part of the mystery.

The author did a good job in building suspense to the climax. My suspicions were manipulated quite effectively. I was satisfied with the twists in the solution and the terribly sad motive for the murders. Lives were ruined and the perpetrators lived on unknown among us, even in an idyllic town like Cambridge.

This was a very well laid out thriller with twist and turns. I liked that the author allowed us insight into the witnesses lives and takes us through each lead through their testimony. By the end I was anxious to find out who was doing the killings and why. Loved it, a real page turner.

Although this was the first book in this series that I had read, that in no way lessened my enjoyment of this fine novel. Betsy Reavley is a very good writer, and both characters and setting are beautifully portrayed; indeed, the wonderful city of Cambridge is almost an extra character in itself. The series of crimes described here is intriguing and tantalising, and the story keeps one involved right to the very end. Splendid stuff!

One of my favorite settings .... a quaint little bookshop. My favorite season ... winter.

Tilly loves her job working at a small bookshop .. it seems perfect for her. It allows her to save money so she can go to school .. her co-workers are pleasant ... her boss is a nice man to work for.

But this morning when Tilly goes to work, she finds her boss hanging from the ceiling with a rope around his neck.

DCI Barrett and DI Palmer are called to investigate. The first assumption was suicide, but the detectives and medical examiner put paid to that idea. This was a murder, plain and simple. Well .. maybe not so simple.

When other murders occur in the same fashion, Barrett and Palmer look diligently for some kind of connection among the victims.

Who would want these people dead ... and why?

This is a police procedural wrapped in a cozy mystery with likeable characters and a story premise that keeps the reader turning pages leading to an unexpected ending.

Murder in the Dark is the follow-up to Murder at the Book Club, though can equally be read as a stand-alone.

Many thanks to the author / Bloodhound Books / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of MURDER IN THE DARK. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
