Seemed to drag!

This novel wasn’t a great read for me. In fact, I felt it dragged on without progress a few times. It was a very predictable plot and I was hoping for a twist, but unfortunately, none came to be. It wasn’t a horrible read, but I didn’t feel I was pulled into the story or invested in the characters.

I received an ARC of this book courtesy of Net Galley and the publisher. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely.

I loved this amazing read with captivating characters you feel like you know and an engaging story that kept me entertained and intrigued from beginning to end. As soon as I started reading I knew I wouldn't be able to put the book and enjoyed every minute of it. I loved the undeniable chemistry and sweet romance between English professor Bonnie Blythe and Theo Wharton, a British hero straight out of a Jane Austen novel. If you enjoy fresh, well-crafted humorous contemporary romance, don't miss Smitten by the Brit, the second book in the Sometimes in Love series by gifted author Melonie Johnson. I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review. I liked it so much, I purchased a copy to read again later.

I had such a good time with SMITTEN BY THE BRIT. Of course, we knew that Theo and Bonnie were tossing off sparks during GETTING HOT WITH THE SCOT but they went nowhere because Bonnie was engaged. Now life has taken a turn, and Bonnie finds herself free to make her own choices for her future – one that just might include a fling with a sexy Brit.

I want to call Bonnie and Theo’s romance a slow burn, and in many ways, it is in spite of those sparks flying. Theo is such a gentleman, almost from another time period. He’s holding on to secrets that Bonnie has no clue about. Which will win in the end love or duty?

Yes, I’m being a bit vague on details because you should experience this romance for yourself. I adored this couple, they have such a bantering, loving relationship even before that “love” word entered. If you love a romance with a bit of angst, a secret that changes everything, lively characters and a definite slow burn sizzle then you’ll want to pick up SMITTEN BY THE BRIT. I don’t believe you’ll be one tiny bit disappointed.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

First time reading this author.
Fun and flirty. Light-hearted. romance.. Entertaining.
Bonnie accepts a job abroad and meets up with Theo. Apparently they’ve met before. Though this is a standalone, I will need to go back to the first book to read their first encounter.

This was a light 4*. It had a young woman who had her perfectly crafted world turned upside down and is now trying to figured out what to do with her life. Then enters a handsome gentleman who is a real life duke aka Theo and wants Bonnie with all his heart but he has family obligations that make things look impossible for them. I was drawn to Bonnie's quirky personality. I did like Theo's manners but he got a big slap for "disappearing" on her for a few weeks.

But like any fairytale we get to see a change of heart and a big HEA for everyone. Overall it was quite enjoyable read.

This book is Theo and Bonnie's story whom we were introduced to in Getting Hot with a Scot. Bonnie has not forgotten the handsome Brit that she met on her vacation with her girlfriends, but seeing as she is an engaged woman, she tries hard to forget him. After running into Theo at a gathering, Bonnie returns home to find her "fiancé" in bed with another woman. After flinging her engagement ring down and grabbing her coat and purse, Bonnie soon finds herself adrift in the city with no where to go. She tries calling Ana, but finds that Sadie is staying there. Sadie then offers Bonnie her dad's suite at a hotel and Bonnie goes there to crash and regroup. It just so happens that Theo is staying at the same hotel and on the same floor and once they discover this, the two wind up spending Theo's last night in town together, but just sleeping. The next morning, Bonnie winds up running away and they don't speak for a few weeks. Bonnie then shows up in England to do a guest professorship and Theo tracks her down and so begins their friends with benefits arrangement. Poor Theo thinks that he has to sacrifice his happiness in order to take care of his mother, three sisters and his Dukedom. Poor Bonnie thinks that she is either using Theo as a rebound or that there is no way that he would consider her suitable enough to be his Duchess. You must read the story to find out if these two can navigate their way into a HEA. This book was cute, well written and I enjoyed reading it.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and freely given review. All thoughts expressed here are my own. I would definitely buy this book. I look forward to reading the next in the series, Once Upon a Bad Boy.

We originally met Bonnie and Theo in Getting Hot With the Scot as they are best friends with Cassie and Logan. They had an instant chemistry however Bonnie was engaged to Gabe, the first boyfriend she ever had, and her loyalty was unwavering. A year later Theo is in Chicago to celebrate their best friend’s engagement and his timing couldn’t have been better.

Bonnie has just found out that her loyalty to her fiancé was all one sided so when she has the opportunity to teach at Cambridge for the summer it seems like the getaway she needs and as a bonus she may just get to spend some time with Theo. Their friendship evolved into friends with benefits and then something deeper, but Theo’s family has plans for his future and Bonnie is not part of them.

There was no denying the chemistry and connection between them, but not only do they need to deal with the aftermath of Bonnie’s failed relationship but also Theo’s battle between loyalty and love. I have enjoyed this series and I am looking forward to Sadie’s story which is coming up next.

I didn’t think it was possible to beat the first book in this series, but the author did it. I absolutely loved book two in the “Sometimes in Love” series. I identified with Bonnie in the first book, and even more so in this one. I am a fellow Shakespeare nerd, and could totally relate to her quoting him and finding parts of her life that were similar to his plays. And I am totally jealous of the job she took in England; I would kill for that! Oh yeah, the romance is great too, but you knew it would be because Theo is the perfect Austen hero. This is one of my favorite series, and I can’t wait for the next one. To find out more about how I relate to Bonnie, visit my blog at Fireflies and Free Kicks Fiction Reviews. A HUGE thank you to St. Martin’s Press (via NetGalley) for the opportunity to read a complimentary digital ARC of this book.

After reading Getting Hot with the Scot I could not wait to read Theo and Bonnie's story. They had started some sparks. It really grew in this book. It grew from sparks to a full fledge fire. These two are so good together.

Theo is a gentleman. Yet at the same time he is bringing the sexy back. He is the type of guy that all women want and all men wish they were. Therefore, it was easy to see how Bonnie fell hard head over heels in love with Theo. So, glad that Bonnie found her "prince charming".

Just like the first book in this series, there is plenty of good natured humor to be found within the pages of this book. Fans of contemporary romance will enjoy this series. I know I found one of my new favorite authors in Melonie Johnson. I can't wait to continue in this series with book three.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy from St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for my unbiased opinion of the book. English professor Bonnie Blythe entire life based on Shakespearean quotes finally realizes that the man she's been engaged to for a long time she will never marry. Enter in Theo Wharton who rescues this damsel but what happens she rescues herself to create a new ending for herself. Everyone can relate to finding out things the hard way and becoming stronger and better for it in the process. I love when writers make relatable characters that all don't look like supermodels and are quirky in their own unique way. I loved this book couldn't put it down! I can't wait for the next book in the series. I hope this series goes through all the friends and not just three of them. Melonie keep writing great books!!!

Smitten by the Brit written by Melonie Johnson is the story of Bonnie Blythe and Theo, the Duke of Emberton. A good stand alone story that is also part of series. Theo is to be the best man at his best friend Logan's wedding and Cassie is to be maid of honor as Logan is marrying her best friend, Cassie. Theo has feelings for Bonnie but knows she is engaged to be married to another man, Gage. Lots of things happen to throw Bonnie and Theo together including her breakup with her fiancé when Bonnie catches him cheating on her. Bonnie takes a dream summer job teaching at Cambridge University in England. Also Bonnie has no idea that Theo is really and English Duke. Add to that, Logan and Cassie change the venue of their wedding to Scotland. Romance abounds as Bonnie and Theo get to know each other better. The HEA is an adventure in itself culminating with one very interesting wedding and one engagement.

ARC for honest review with no compensation received from NetGalley

Smitten by the Brit is book 2 in the Sometimes in Love series by Melonie Johnson and brings us back to Bonnie and Theo who met in book 1.

Since Bonnie was engaged and the sparks she felt were nothing more than meeting an attractive man...her vacation ends, back to Chicago and her fiancé except he wasn’t monogamous while she was away. She breaks up with him and decides to move on only she’s not sure what that entails...that is until Theo comes to Chicago on business and when he sees her again he’s determined to light up her life and fan the flames of attraction...

Humor, romance over the pond, fun times and finding what life has in store and it may not be what you expected...

When I read Getting Hot with the Scot, I knew that Theo and Bonnie were going to end up together. Even though Bonnie has been in a long term relationship since middle school with the same guy, there was something about their meeting in book one that the writing was on the wall for me.

What was completely unexpected (for me, anyway) was the way Bonnie and Theo got together and all the drama surrounding them. This book had a bit more angst than I thought it would. Even with all of the downs, there were plenty of ups that kept me engaged in the story.

I loved Theo's family and seeing some great characters from the first book in the series. I can't wait to see what happens in book 3!

Smitten by the Brit was my first Melonie Johnson book, but it will not be my last! I'm going back and reading Getting Hot with the Scot. I LOVED the characters in this book. The chemistry the females had with their male counterparts was off the charts!

What sounds like a light and breezy chick lit book turns deep about 1/4 of the way in. It's a quick moving book, because you want, no, NEED, to know what's happening with these highly likable characters. You'll root from them many different times, and you'll feel for them too.

One thing I really liked about the characters is that Bonnie was a teacher teaching Shakespeare, something not many people appreciate today. You can tell the author probably has a strong love of classic literature, because that aspect of Bonnie is very well written. A lot of thought and planning was put into this story to make it play out in a beautiful way.

I received an advance copy; all thoughts are my own.

Delightfully adventurous, Smitten by the Brit is filled with slow-burn steamy moments, humor, fun and friendship.

Bonnie always thought her life would play out like one of her favorite romances. Turns out she was living in the wrong book and her prince is the villain not the hero. So when life grants her an unexpected opportunity to teach a summer class on Shakespeare at Oxford, Bonnie decides to not just start a new chapter on her life, but a whole new book. It also doesn't hurt that her teaching opportunity puts her in close proximity to the devastatingly charming Theo Wharton whose heart-stopping dimples make Bonnie go literally weak in the knees.

"She didn't need a Gilbert or Darcy or any made-up hero trapped between the pages of a book. She needed real. She needed Theo."

Theo hasn't been able to get Bonnie Blythe out of his mind or heart from the moment her saw her over a year ago. Struggling with the obligations he has to his family and his heart's desire has never been harder now that Bonnie is closer to him and the chance at a happiness he never expected is within grasp.

"I'm not promising a life as perfect or pretty as one of your novels. But is you give me a chance, I will work to make you happy. Every. Single. Day."

Smitten by the Brit is sure to charm you. Add while I would have loved a epilogue, I'd guess we'll see more of Bonnie and Theo in the next installment of the Sometimes in Love series. I can't wait for more!

Smitten by the Brit is the second book in this series by Melonie Johnson. In this story we find the girls back home from their European tour. Cassie and her Scot, Logan Reid, are engaged and planning their wedding in a Scottish castle. Cassie’s best friend and maid of honor, Bonnie Blythe, has hesitations in helping with the plan, mainly because her longtime boyfriend and fiancé Gabe is making no effort to set a date of their own. But it isn’t until Bonnie comes home early from a charity event with Cassie and finds Gabe in the throes of passion with someone else that she sees clearly the reason why.

Turning to her friends Ana and Sadie, Bonnie is offered a suite at a Gold Coast Hotel. Little does she know that Theo Wharton, Duke of Emberton, has a suite on the same floor. Although she was true blue, Bonnie felt a tug towards Theo from their first meeting and it seems like he has felt the same. Now that she is single, what will happen as a result?

In an engaging tale of missed opportunities that curve around to perfect timing, Melonie Johnson has crafted anther lovely romance. I definitely enjoyed this book and I do recommend it, plus I look forward to the next book in the series.

Smitten by the Brit Book 2

5 Stars

What an absolutely amazing series so far! You don't have to read the first book in the series to understand this one but it is nice to be familiar with it. Fell so much in love with it from the very beginning to the end! The couple is introduced in the first book, Bonnie and Theo, their chemistry is just plain awesome! They get quite steamy!

Highly recommend! Very entertaining!

Oh my! Smitten by the Brit is one of the most adorable romances I have read this year. Witty banter and swoony moments of bliss kept me glued to my book. I could close my eyes and imagine this cute romance happening for me. I can not recommend it enough.

I really enjoyed this book. I'll admit I've never read Shakespeare or Jane Austin...I know a lover of romance and I'm sure I'm missing out. Point is I thought with all the references to the books I would feel like I was missing something. Nope, it just made swoon even more. Theo was so romantic and I love the slow burn of his and Bonnie's love story. I love that Bonnie seem true to life as a lady who has only love one man and isn't sure of her abilities to keep a man. It broke my heart to see Theo struggle with his need to support his family and still fall in love with the woman of his dreams. This series just keeps getting better with each book.

This is my first book by Melonie Johnson and it won’t be my last! I enjoyed her writing with how Bonnie is a professor in Shakespeare literature, and brining some of the phrases from Shakespeare’s plays. I also loved the dichotomy of the US and Britain. When they were over in England it brought back some of the old Victorian novels to light that I used to always read. It made me feel warm and comfortable. I loved Bonnie and all her crazy friends. They were so funny at times when they got together. Bonnie got a raw deal by her ex fiancé, and I can’t imagine what she went through. I love dimples, accents, and handsome men so I also fell in love with Theo. I thought Theo was a little wimpy at times regarding how he let his mother run his love life. His sisters were great, especially the oldest of the three. She was a real character! I loved the book, and strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.
