Bonnie Blythe has always seen her life as a novel and her carefully laid plans are leading her towards her HEA until an unexpected discovery makes her take a sharp turn towards uncharted territory.
Theo Wharton has his own issues. A peer of the realm with an estate in financial trouble, he’s expected to marry into money to save his family and all the people who depend on him. But he got his sights on the little redhead he met in London the previous summer and he’s not ready to give up that dream just yet.
I liked Bonnie and Theo’s story even better. I found it charming, utterly romantic and the Brit really stole my heart. Smart, sexy and charming, a perfect gentleman at all times and with a hero complex to boot, Theo makes an amazing book boyfriend. From Shakespeare to Star Trek, the man seems to know it all!
Then there are Bonnie’s new adventures, the girls, Theo’s sisters and Cassie’s wedding preparations (refer to the bridesmaids’ dresses shopping chapter), to make the backbone of a laugh out loud story which is also romantic and sexy.
I have definitely found a new rom-com author to follow and can’t wait to read what comes next.

I received a free advanced copy of this book from NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

This delightful read continues from where the previous book ended. Cassie and Logan are soon to be married and Bonnie can't help being a bit jealous of her BBF, as she has been planning to marry Gabe, her fiancee, since she was eight and has been engaged to him for over a year with still no wedding date in sight. She had managed to control her attraction to Theo, Logan's best friend, when the girls were in England, but when she walks in on Gabe shtupping another woman on their bed, she has had enough. She accepts an opportunity to teach for the summer in London, with the added benefit of spending more time with Theo. But will Theo's ducal duties force him into a loveless marriage with an heiress?

This is a fast reading, well written book with endearing characters and an amusing plot.

Smitten? Too mild a word for this story! I was madly in love with these characters from Getting Hot with the Scot and happy to return to their world. Still best friends, Bonnie and Cassie get ready for Cassie’s wedding in Scotland. No spoilers—- through joy and heartbreak, duty and love, maid of honor, Bonnie and best mate, Theo work toward their own hopefully, HEA. This is a must read!

I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.

4 steamy stars! This book is crazy, sexy and fun! I flew through through this adorable story. I ADORE Theo. He's so polished and charming. Bonnie was quirky and adorable. The chemistry between the two was amazing. I loved all the old literature references throughout the book. I would definitely read this one again and I'm looking forward to reading the others in this series!

Bonnie Blyth, Instructor of Shakespearean literature, has her life all planned out with a boyfriend she has known since grade school. When an unhappy discovery breaks their engagement, Bonnie decides to take on a summer program at Cambridge putting her near Theo Wharton to whom she is attracted. Bonnie and Theo met in the first book of this series and something sparked then, but she remained true to her fiancé.

Theo Wharton, Duke of Emberton is equally attracted to Bonnie; however, he has some heavy familial responsibilities that preclude marrying anyone but an heiress to keep his ancestral estate afloat. Theo’s mother has very definite ideas who that should be and is not amused by his affections being elsewhere.

Bonnie’s best friend is getting married in the UK so she is helping to plan a wedding while trying to get over her own wounded heart. Theo does much to assuage that once she is in England and they spend time together. As her favorite guy William said, “the course of true love never did run smooth” which definitely applies for Bonnie and Theo.

I like Bonnie and Theo as a couple; however, one of my issues with this story is that they actually do not spend that much time together. Theo also lets his mother run rough shod and for a thirty year old man, that is not a good look. The dialogue and repartee are entertaining although sometimes verging on the silly. This book can be read as a standalone; however references are made to events in the first book in the series where her friend, Cassie, and Logan come together.

I received and requested this book for myself to read and review. Wow this book is steamy. The chemistry between Bonnie and Theo. The story line was smooth and flowed well. This is a romantic with some comedy as well. Not for young readers or for the faint of heart 😉. This can be ready anywhere but maybe someplace in a very public place. So when your fanning yourself and laughing out loud you don't get weird books. This book won't disappoint you. Looking forward the next book by author Melonie Johnson.

I absolutely loved this book even though I didn't read book one. But after reading this book I believe I would love it as much as I did this book. The characters were described really well. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Smitten by the Brit, Melonie Johnson

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Romance

I really thought this sounded perfect for me, but I feel conflicted, ambivalent about it. It was well written, just didn't wow me, didn't make me feel I couldn't put it down.

I wasn't really gripped by either character, they were Nice. That's it. No real character to either of them. Bonnie was a sweet girl, but I'd have thought she'd be more upset over her breakup considering how long they'd been together. Years, years after being childhood friends. That's not something you can move from even though he was an ar- se, even though it was clear they'd actually drifted apart some while back. Yet within days she's got the hots for Theo.
I think she's the sort of person who would grieve losing the idea of the relationship you thought she had even if she didn't grieve the man.

Theo, he made me so cross, a real mummy's boy. I could see the issue with his family, understand the problems but really? The solution his mother proposed wasn't something you'd pull from a hat, the issues weren't something that sudden;ly cropped up and the solution – if hers wasn't what he wanted – should have been worked out years ago.

Its that lack of practicality, the reaching for quick and easy solutions combined with the blandness of the characters that let this story down for me. You may feel differently, I can see others love it so clearly the issues I struggle with don't affect other readers. Melonie is a new to me author, I will try another book before deciding she's not for me, I like her writing style, just not the plot and characters in this book. Could be a one off and I'll love others. Won't be the first time that's happened, and I'm always looking for some well written romance.

Stars: Two and a half, I enjoyed Melonie's style of writing but sadly not this book.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in this series by this author, and just like the first one I loved this book. Bonnie and Theo were a couple I was just waiting for since the first book, and this author didn't disappoint. Their chemistry is amazing - Bonnie is just the right amount of innocent and naive, and Theo is enamored with Bonnie, yet struggles with balancing his responsibility to his family and to himself. While easier to deny themselves when they are in different cities and on different continents, Bonnie summer gig gives them both the opportunity to know each other and I enjoyed every page. While some situations and misunderstandings have the ability to tear them apart, this book does have an HEA and this book's mixture of comedy, snark, and heat is the perfect way to get to know these two characters.

While this book is the second in this series, it can be read as a standalone however there are pieces of this book which continue Cassie and Logan's story, which is something I was happily surprised about. This is definitely a must read!

Loved Bonnie and Theo! Bonnie walks in on her fiancé cheating on her. So much for her plans of a wedding. Theo is a Duke, who needs a match not for love but money to save his family. Their affair starts out as jo strings attached, but the heart starts to be involved. Can they get their happily ever after? 5 stars

Bonnie Blythe has her whole life figured out. She'll teach college level Shakespeare, marry her high school sweetheart, have a couple of babies and generally live a good, predictable life. Then she walks in on her fiance desecrating her grandma Mary's quilt with his teacher's assistant. Suddenly she's single and on her way to Oxford for a summer teaching position. Luckily for us, the other perk to living in England is Theo Warton; the single, hot, best man in Bonnie's best friend's wedding. Oh and he's the current Duke of Emberton.

If you're looking for a modern romance with the possibility of an American becoming a Duchess, this is the one for you.

I loved this sparkling lovely book! It was cute, charming, fun, and a joy to read! There were also lots of steam level midnight moments between the main characters, Bonnie and Theo.

This was exactly the contemporary romance read I dream of. The fact that Theo is a duke, the story takes place not only in Chicago but England and Scotland, and there are plenty of nods to Shskespeare, Austen, and Monty Python add some of the elements that really hit this out of the ballpark for me.

I could write paragraphs on how much I enjoyed the swoon worthy Theo. And then I could write more paragraphs on how much I liked Bonnie. Instead, just know that they are all that I hoped for from the book description. Adding so much to this book are supporting charaters, including Theo's sister, who I truly hope will make an appearance in subsequent books because I adore her.

There are appearances, of course, of characters from the first book in the series. It was natural and lovely to see them again. Although this is the second book in the series, it could be read and enjoyed as a standalone. I am all in on this series and cannot wait for the next book!

I appreciate how the conflict that Theo and Bonnie had to overcome in order to obtain a happy ever after was one that was a feasible threat and the author provided enough heartfelt tension before providing a realistic and thoroughly satisfying conclusion.

I highly recommend this book! You will especially love it if you like contemporary stories with peers of the realm as romantic heroes and you relish happy endings. This is well written and well conceived. It has a place on my virtual 'I Loved It' shelf.

Thank you St Martin's Press and Netgalley for the invitation to review an advanced copy of Smitten by the Brit by Melonie Johnson. This is Book #2 of the series (I'll have to go back and pick up book #1) I positively adored Bonnie and Theo! Theo is a brilliant example of chivalry. This is a fast paced steamy, sexy feel-good book I highly recommend everyone giving it a gander. I didn't realize it was part of a series so I absolutely plan on reading book one. I feel that although part of a series this book could easily stand on its own. I proudly award 4.5 stars to Smitten by a Brit (book #2 of the Sometimes in Love series).

Just enough sweetness and just enough sass! Bonnie and Theo are awesome. I enjoyed this book immensely.

Smitten by the Brit, the second novel in the Sometimes in Love series by Melonie Johnson is every bit as wonderful as the first, Getting Hot with the Scot. Bonnie Blythe fondly remember Theo Wharton from her trip to England the previous summer with her friends. However, she was happily engaged and although she was attracted to him, he was strictly off limits. Back stateside, circumstances drastically altered when she found her fiance in a compromising position. When Theo walked back into her life in Chicago, the newly single Bonnie was unsure of her feelings...was this a rebound thing? Could it be more? Theo had his own issues to deal with, being a member of the British aristocracy and needing a wealthy wife to help bolster the family coffers.

Smitten by the Brit is a fun read and won't leave you disappointed! A perfect combination of love, lust and pleasure. Thank you to the author, NetgGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of this novel for an honest review. Looking forward to book 3 in the series!

Melonie Johnson does a fabulous job of intertwining her “Sometimes in Love” series novels together. The main characters are complex and well written. The reader cannot help but get lost in the magic of Scotland, the excitement of a wedding, and the fun of an international romance. A solid and enjoyable read!
