Smitten by the Brit is a cute somewhat bouncy love story between Bonnie Blythe and Theo, the sixteenth Duke of Emberton, but that, of course, is not where this story starts, so let's go back to the beginning.

Life as Bonnie Blythe knows it all changes in a single night, first, she is offered a position teaching at Cambridge for the Summer and then ends with finding her then-fiancé screwing his Ph.D. Advisor in their apartment on her grandmother quilt! But Bonnie is not alone, as she has her friends! She has Cassie and Logan's wedding and then there is Theo! A man she has startling feelings for, even when she shouldn't.

This is a cry and laugh out loud kinda book and that is exactly what I needed! The characters, story, and writing was fantastic, and I have to admit as an ex-pat Brit, it made me a little homesick. The one niggled at me about this story was all the running away! I mean Bonnie could have given The Runaway Bride a run for her money.

I give Smitten by the Brit 4 stars and totally recommend as a great beach read.

If you've yet to read this trilogy, go get your hands on these beauts immediately. Seriously.

I love quick reads which pull you in and never let you go. My work productivity plummeted when I was reading these. But I still smashed it and didn't miss any deadlines, phew!

I'm planning to read this again and write a more thorough review so bare with me. I'm a failure when it comes to annotating and writing down bits I love. Always happens. And I don't think I've reread a book in... forever. So me saying I'm going to reread these is a HUGE compliment. Especially as there's too many books to read, not enough centuries.

This was definitely a more slow burn romance compared to the previous in the trilogy and all of it was so worth the wait. I felt for Bonnie and felt like something was up with her relationship and I might have even made some rather loud noises when she got together with Theo. All of it really sucked me in bad, as you can see. I love it when a book actually makes me feel so much. And depresses me a little that I don't have a sexy Brit in my life. Oh well.

All in all, I'd give it all the stars if I could!

Smitten by the Brit is the second journey to this entertaining, yet heartfelt romance series by Melonie Johnson. I loved meeting the characters from the first book. In this second one, the first couple is getting married. The friend of the bride is in a sour mood because her fiance still hasn't set the date for their wedding. He keeps pushing it aside until he finishes his school thing. The more times he puts their wedding aside, the more Bonnie realizes it's just not meant to be. Love was something she strongly believed before and now, it's been destroyed. All those years wasted on one man. Then, enters the hot Brit. Theo is a breath of fresh air when it comes to alpha males. His whole personality is likable. Both Theo and Bonnie feel something pushing them together. Maybe, it's love. Maybe, it's not love. But their affair is starting to undo them both. Sparks fly hot in this read. I never enjoyed myself more than when following these characters. The whole cast is wonderful. Melonie Johnson has a magical way of luring me into her books.

This is an enjoyable book by a new to me author. I loved the English and Scottish aspects. I didn't like the heroine as much as I thought I would, but the story was good and it had a sweet ending.

“His body was at a constant slow burn”this was exactly how I felt but oh so good! Theo can burn me anytime hahaha. They were amazing! It was definitely a feel good story that shows you to go for your dreams and never settle. I hi lighted basically the whole book because the quotes just spoke to me. I never wanted it to end. I hope after the third book we get an epilogue of all the characters and I hope Tabitha gets her own story. I love this story so much.

This book was a fun, sweet and eye roll inducing, but only in the best of ways, ride with characters I loved getting to know better and wanting to spend a lot more time with.

I loved Theo and Bonnie. Theo is simply a good man with quite a bit responsibility resting on his broad shoulders, which leads him to be a bit more wary of letting people get close to him and also causes a bit of conflict when it comes to his wants and needs.. He’s charming, sweet and smexy and is as loyal as they come. Bonnie is sweet, sassy and a little naive, but that just makes her all the more lovable. She’s had her life planned out for a long time and finds herself in limbo when the blanket is pulled out from under her, but I loved watching as she picked herself up and worked at forging a new plan for her future ~ with a little help from her friends of course.

Theo and Bonnie’s journey to their HEA was a lot of fun, eye roll inducing at times, but fun all the same. From this first time they met (Getting Hot with the Scot) it was obvious there was a spark, but due to their situations they kept things friendly. But with one of the issues out of the way, I loved watching as they got to know each other ~ even if they did stumble along at times ~ and simply got who the other was and enjoyed being together. The bump in their did have me doing the whole shaking of the head/eye rolling/wanting to bang my head against the wall, because they both had a hand in it, but I loved how it all worked out in the end.

I really enjoyed this book, I liked the first in the series, but this one hooked me from the start. I loved getting to know Theo and Bonnie and watch as they evolved throughout story. I loved catching up with Cassie and Logan, Ana, Sadie and Delaney ~ their antics as a group was so much fun to experience ~, as well as Logan’s family. But it was Tabitha who I liked the most and hope that we get to see more of her as the series progresses!

I really wanted to like these novels...I love travel and romance and I felt this had such potential. Unfortunately, I just could not get into the plot and found Johnson’s writing style to be unable to hold my attention. This book was a DNF for me.

My Thoughts:
I had been looking forward to reading this since I first saw Theo and Bonnie interact in Melonie Johnson’s first book in the series, Getting Hot with the Scot. My heart broke for her when she called off her engagement. She is the type of character where everything she does and says, Melonie Johnson makes you care for her and cheer for her every step of the way. The way her relationship built with Theo slowly and yet passionately was the highlight of this book.

Their relationship aside, the plot was amazing. Every chapter was moving the story along and at no time did I feel a lull in what was happening. I was constantly turning the page dying to read what came next. Beautifully written!

Would I Recommend:
Just like with Getting Hot with the Scot, I absolutely recommend this book. The author immediately sucks you in with her writing and the characters make the story come to life. I loved it!

Bonnie Blythe is an English professor with a great opportunity. She gets offered a teaching job across the pond. Timing couldn't be any better for Bonnie because, after having been engaged for quite while, and actually looking forward to setting a date, Bonnie discovers something shocking and ends her engagement.

Meanwhile, Bonnie had met Theo Wharton, sexy as all get out, a few months previously, but she never allowed her head to turn. All of that changed when she became single again. So, Bonnie hopes to start again, and could she really be falling in love with Theo? Nothing is that simple, however, but she hopes that learning even more about Theo might bring her a true happily ever after.

Having previously read the first book in the series, Getting Hot with the Scot, I met Bonnie and all of the girlfriends. So, therefore, I definitely looked forward to this book in the Sometimes in Love series. I loved seeing Bonnie fall in love with her British romantic duke.

This is a quick, fun read and a great addition to the series. I admit being addicted, as I have already read the third book in the series, Once Upon a Bad Boy, and it was equally as good. I look forward to not only continuing this series, but whatever else Melonie Johnson has to offer.

Bonnie and Theo were introduced in the first book of the series, Getting Hot for the Scot. Their mutual attraction was obvious, but Bonnie was in a long term relationship. Well, that’s over with and she is now available for Theo, not that she really wants another relationship just yet. But let’s be honest, who could resist Theo? I loved the chemistry between these two, their relationship just flowed from page to page. Melonie Johnson is a captivating writer who has the ability to write a story that keeps you turning the pages without bogging you down in too much intense emotion or angst.
I’m looking forward to reading the third book in the series.

Smitten by the Brit, by Melonie Johnson, was a pleasant read with good character development. Bonnie and Theo were a couple struggling to find a way to be with each other. Theo was a duke, and if he followed custom, should marry someone with both wealth and in his social set. Bonnie was an American who experienced an instant attraction to Theo, but initially squashed those feelings since she was engaged to someone else. After a broken engagement, Bonnie was free to pursue a relationship with Theo, but Theo knew that being with Bonnie would not be beneficial to his family and his duty as heir was to marry “well”. This story takes you through their attempt to find a loving, lasting relationship with each other. (I was giving an ARC for my honest review.)

I love Smitten by the Brit! Although this is book two in the series, this is my first book I've read by Melanie Johnson. I love the realistic style that Johnson has. Her lead character Bonnie is smart and entertaining. Plus, She is strong and resilient. And I wish Theo was real so I could introduce him to my daughter. If you want to know how these two characters are connected you'll have to read the book. I was invited by St. Martin’s Press to read and review Smitten By the Brit, authored by two-time RWA Golden Heart® finalist, Melonie Johnson. It’s the second in her “Sometimes in Love” series. It’s as good as, or better than the first one.

I appreciate that Johnson works into her story such things as the news media’s focus on how women dress rather than how well they play sports or how well they do their jobs. This is also very common in reporting on political figures. Ms. Johnson also has characters in this book comment on how Wordsworth worked to preserve the beauty of the land for future generations. We should take a cue from her.

In Smitten By the Brit, Bonnie Blythe is an English professor who frequently quotes Jane Austen and the Bard, among others. She has been in love with Gabe since 3rdgrade, and engaged to for quite a while. She is already unhappy about the prolonged engagement, and Gabe’s refusal to set a wedding date until he finishes his writing dissertation. Now her best friend, Cassie, is planning her own wedding to the gorgeous Scot, Logan, who she met just months ago in the first book of this series. Bonnie is trying not to be jealous, but it is difficult. Then she finds Gabe in a very compromising position with another woman.

After a chance meeting with Theo, Logan’s English friend, Bonnie remembers her visceral attraction to him when they first met almost a year ago. After the devastating break-up with Gabe, she accepts an offer to teach as visiting faculty at Cambridge in the coming summer semester. Not emotionally ready for another relationship, she is still elated to find Cambridge is only an hour away from Theo’s home. The chemistry between the two cannot go unnoticed.

• Verb disagreement: “coming” vs. “going”, “bring” vs. “take”, “rode” vs. “ridden”;
• Beginning sentences with conjunctions;
• Misspelled or misused words: “stationary” vs. “stationery”, “chimney flu vs. chimney flue”;
• Lack of capitalization of brand name products;
• Singular vs. plural disagreement: “Everyone lifted their glass”. (More than one person equals more than one glass.);
• Lots of split infinitives;
• Confusing “further” with “farther”. (They don’t mean the same thing.)

I am enjoying these Sometimes in Love novels so much! I previously reviewed Melonie Johnson's ​Getting Hot with the Scot. These books are honestly so sweet and so entertaining.

We were introduced to Bonnie and Theo in Getting Hot with the Scot, and I was so happy to learn that their story would be the next one in line. We hear about Bonnie's fiance in that book, and I doubt I'm alone when I say how much I disliked hearing about him - he sounded like a jerk! I don't want to give away too much, but let's just say...I wasn't wrong. Jerk.

I found Theo to be so charming in the previous book and felt he instantly clicked with Bonnie. I appreciated his respect for her and her relationship - not even really a flirtation was said between them. It was more of a spark - a feeling that the reader could tangibly feel. I loved it and wanted more.

Bonnie gets to go overseas in Smitten by the Brit - conveniently so much closer to Theo! So, we get to read about Bonnie's adventures of being in one of her favorite places, and we also get to see feelings blossom between the two. There is definitely some heavy feelings in this book, but I found it to be a lot less than the previous book (please see my review!). This is by no means a negative on this book - I enjoyed the lightness in their courtship and even their obstacles. I loved this love story - I think you will too, reader.

I enjoyed this as much as the first book !!! You do not have to read them in order but..... well it give the backstory.
I was hooked from the beginning all the way through. Looking forward to reading more books by this author.

For some reason this book just didn't work for me. Smitten by the Brit is the second book in a series, but I didn't read the first one and had no problem following the story. (Johnson reminds us quite a few times what happened in the first, and the hero and heroine are characters in this one.) At any rate, in this book Bonnie is helping her best friend Cassie plan her wedding while waiting for her own fiance to be done with his PhD so they can get married. They've been engaged forever with no wedding date in sight. (I bet you can guess where this is going.) The hero is Theo, the best friend of Cassie's fiance, and a British duke whose family is on the verge of losing their estate. There was nothing wrong with this book per se, and I am sure if you liked the first one you'd like this one. Bonnie is a huge fan of Jane Austen, and she kind of sees herself as living in an Austen novel - references to Willoughby and Marianne, etc. I think Theo is supposed to be an Austen-esque hero, but I just didn't like him. His personality seemed to be "British stereotype," and his relationship with Bonnie seemed mostly based on lust. I also didn't find Bonnie that interesting, and as a minor plot point that bothered me - you do not get approved for sabbatical a few weeks before fall semester. The relationships between Bonnie's friends were well done, as was Theo's with his family, but I wanted more from this one - both from the characters and the plot. I was also bothered by the glaring lack of diversity. (Putting a plug here for a different, much more enjoyable recent book about a hero with a crumbling British estate and with lots of Austen references - Lucy Parker's The Austen Playbook.)

Melonie did it again. I am loving this series of friends finding their forevers. No it isn't just meet the guy and happy ever after there are twists and turns in the plot to make it interesting but the girl has to get the guy in the end right?

I hadn't meant to binge this series but after the first I wanted more. I think this one was written even better than the first! I really like the writing and depth of the characters. Now on to the next!
