One of my goals these last few months is reading what I own, which includes the books I've forgotten about on my kindle. I tried reading Tan's memoir, but as I am not as invested in Queer Eye as I once was, this did not draw my attention any longer. I dnfed the book for now, we'll see what happens in the future.

I absolutely adore Tan. If anyone could replace Carson Kressley on Queer Eye, it’s Tan France. So, it was really nice to get to have the curtains peeled back and see a little more about his life and his family history in Pakistan.
The parts I didn’t enjoy so much were where he kinda complained about being a celebrity (hey… you picked this job) but I still enjoyed the book.

Fun story of his life and career -- I live in Salt Lake City and am friends with many emigrants from Pakistan here, so it is fun to have someone in the limelight living in this area.

I love Tan, and this had some interesting insights into his life, but... he's not a great writer. This felt, like a lot of celebrity memoirs feel, kind of amateurish.

The new Queer Eye's fashion guy takes us behind the scenes, from his childhood in Britain to his present life as an international celebrity. He talks about the challenges he's faced with humor and candor. An entertaining memoir even when it gets into difficult topics. Those who think they already know France through his TV appearances and newcomers will enjoy this memoir.

This book was sweet and a little poignant. Tan France is as you see him on QE - charming and enjoyable, with a not insignificant amount of judgement for fashion choices he dislikes, but never to the point of being unlikeable. It was an easy read, and one that was quite nice.

I adore Tan France and the whole Fab Five crew. I was thrilled to find that 2019 was the year of all of their new books. Naturally Tan was the first one I read, and I truly enjoyed it. It's nice to finally learn a little more about Tan's background, and how he became the feisty fashionista he is known as on Fab 5. A brilliant memoir that I'll be suggesting to all my friends who are as obsessed with the show as I am.

Thank you to NetGalley, as well as the publisher for providing me with a digital copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

Is it weird that I was very excited to read Naturally Tan by Tan France even though I have maybe seen part of an episode of Queer Eye?!

I remember so many people talking about how wonderful this book was so a flight to Salt Lake City (Tan’s hometown) seemed like a great time to read it.

In Naturally Tan, Tan talks about growing up South Asian in the UK. He shares stories from his childhood; from playing with Cindy, the UK Barbie knock-off, to how he always felt different growing up and when he fell in love with clothing. Tan shares his behind the scenes of his many businesses and fashion lines and meeting his husband. He explains how he got involved with Netflix and Queer Eye and how he didn’t know if he could make it on TV. But of course, no novel from a fashion designer would be complete without fashion advice sprinkled throughout the whole book.

Despite not knowing much about Tan France or Queen Eye prior to reading this book, I really enjoyed the memoir. It was an easy read with humor, great stories, business savvy and determination ... and staples that must be included in every wardrobe. Most of all I enjoyed how relatable and down to earth Tan seems. I almost wish I would run into him on the street jsut so I can say, “Hey Tan!”

“I don’t know at what point famous people are no longer regular people, because I’m still very much dweebo Tan. I wonder if I will always feel that way, or if I will become a celebrity and act too cool for that sh*t. But I hope I never do, because I love that feeling I have now. I love feeling like I managed to sneak into the coolest party in the world and I’m get to be caught out.”

I was excited to read a book by Tan France (I’m a huge fan), however, I had to DNF this book about a quarter of the way. Somehow his personality didn’t come through enough or maybe just his language didn’t work on paper for me, watching him is a lot more fun! Oh well!

You can practically hear Tan's voice reading this book to you in your head. A really interesting memoir of Tan's childhood as a gay brown boy growing up in England, where he experienced racism and bullying and pressure from his parents to be someone he didnt want to be. Speckled among the narrative are great fashion tips which fits Tan's narrative style and his own brand perfectly. I think this book is interesting on multiple levels and is certainly worth the read, especially if you just cant get enough of QueerEye.

This book was pretty much what I expected! Which is to say, it delivered. I learned a bit more about Tan's life - childhood, early career, significant relationships (culminating with husband Rob), and Queer Eye break-out. No shocking or ground-breaking revelations, but stories from a person who I find endlessly endearing.

I'm torn, because while I respect the necessary commitment to boundaries, there were some things I really wanted to know more about - his family, for example - that the memoir just didn't address. Ultimately, one of the things that I really love about Tan - on the show, in the book, and just generally on social media and in the press - is the kind, earnest, pretty wholesome persona he's cultivated, and part of that is having things he just doesn't need to share with strangers he doesn't know. (Including, stories that in part belong to other people who maybe haven't signed up to share their lives with the public! Fair enough. I can't dock him for that.) So, this isn't a saucy tell-all, which is fine and feels more on brand anyway, it's not surprising and not disappointing to anyone familiar with Tan through Queer Eye. For someone less familiar, this might feel a little bit more tame.

The book is organized by articles of clothing - except one or two instances, like the chapter called Chapstick - which was a cute way of connecting to his role as the fashion guy on QE. The fashion advice felt a little forced, too strained of an attempt to tie-in to the brand. Just unnecessary and not all that helpful or cute.

I love watching Tan on Queer Eye and was just as delighted by his memoir as I'd hoped to be. This is one of the most interesting memoirs I've read in a while. His story and the way he tells it is lovely, and highlights some important things that are of import in our culture. I appreciated his honesty, and felt his fun personality throughout.

I was sent this book as an advanced copy by the publisher via NetGalley for reviewing purposes, but all opinions are my own.
This was great. I love Queer Eye so I loved getting to know more about Tan than what is presented in the show.
However, this wasn't entertaining to read with my eyes the actual words (which I did at the beginning, because the audiobook wasn't out yet), and so that definitely affected my rating, but I loved the audio.

I absolutely adore Tan and I loved being able to find out more about his story and what shaped him. I think he is such a strong, interesting man and I am so happy to have been able to read it!

One of my favorite books of 2019! This book was like getting to know a best friend. Tan France is charming, witty, and down-to-earth about both his struggles and triumphs in life. He makes cheeky remarks that I enjoyed thoroughly, and felt like I could definitely sit down with him and have a good cuppa and chat. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has seen Queer Eye on Netflix and wants to delve a bit deeper into Tan's life (pre- and post-Queer Eye), with fashion tips threaded in between stories. A solid celebrity biography that I love to recommend to anyone who will listen!

Let me start by saying that I LOVE the Fab Five from Queer Eye and I was so excited when I found out that a few of them have written books!

I had a lot of fun reading Naturally Tan. Some of Tan’s stories had me laughing out loud and I felt like he has such a personable personality. I usually get a little weary of books that are written by celebrities but I adore Tan and how raw his writing was. I enjoyed getting to know more about him from what we get to see on Queer Eye and social media.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s for the copy of Naturally Tan. It was my pleasure to write an honest review.

I assume that virtually everyone drawn to this memoir is a fan of Queer Eye, so I would also assume that there's an automatic audience for such a piece of writing. I love Tan on the show, and because so much of why the show works is the natural personalities and chemistry of the Fab Five, I was excited to read about Tan's backstory.

I enjoyed the chapters where Tan goes into detail about his history and his life growing up gay and Pakistani in middle-class Liverpool in the '90s. I enjoy Tan's perspective and his celebration of those who he loves.

I didn't love the chapters where he bemoans celebrity and complains about the side effects of fame. I feel like if you are writing a memoir and you have been famous for 5 minutes, you don't get to bitch. You are writing the memoir to make money, stay relevant, and to do that you need to lose your anonymity.

For me this was a nice snack-with a touch of guilty pleasure. For fans of Queer Eye/LGBTQ stories.

I don’t read many autobiographies, or biographies in general, but I thought I would check this one out because I was really intrigued to hear more about the life of Tan France — and boy, I’m glad I gave this a chance! I listened to the audiobook, which Tan narrates, and it was phenomenal. I really appreciate the light he sheds on issues such as dealing with racism and homophobia while growing up brown and gay in the UK. I got choked up a handful of times throughout the novel, specifically at certain scenes involving Tan and his husband and his experiences while working on Queer Eye. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys the show and is interested in getting some insight into Tan’s life. 5/5 stars and easily my favorite biography I’ve read (although I think this might only be the second I’ve ever read, haha).

This was a shockingly emotional and hard-hitting memoir. I already knew that I loved Tan, but I have so much more appreciation for him now as a person and as a TV personality. There are some truly dark moments in this memoir from the start when Tan discusses his struggle with racism growing up and moving to his struggle with coming out and with depression. This book truly digs deep, and I think Tan did a great job with a balance of emotions as well as with a balance of life story, humor, and tips.
I think you could split this book in half, where part one is before Queer Eye, and part 2 is during Queer Eye. Not that I wanted less part 2, because I absolutely loved that, but I wanted more part 1. Some of those "scenes" felt a little rushed. However, I'm obviously nitpicking because this was a fantastic book. I highly recommend the audio book because Tan does a fantastic job narrating, and there is a surprise guest (ANTONI) that joins in a chapter and a discussion at the end.
Overall, loved it, and I haven't really stopped talking about it since I finished it.
