Book Review
Title: Lifelong Affair
Author: Yu Senke
Genre: Manga
Rating: ****
Review: Now the synopsis of Lifelong Affair is brilliant: “Morgan is in shock from the sudden news that her sister and her husband both died in a plane crash. And before she can even mourn, she is unexpectedly visited by Alex Hammond, her sister’s brother-in-law and CEO of the family company. Although they only met once at her sister’s wedding, she still remembers the strong impression he left on her. He reveals to her that there was, in fact, a single survivor from the crash—their new-born nephew, of whom Morgan and Alex have been appointed legal guardians! But can they overcome their vast differences to raise this baby together, or will this new family shatter under the pressure?”
Morgan meets Alex for the first time since her sister’s wedding after she learns that her sister Glenna and her husband Mark Hammond are killed in a plane crash and Glenna was around 7 months pregnant at the time. Both heartbroken by their lost Morgan and Alex don’t get along especially as he comes across as quite cold and unfeeling.
Alex tells Morgan that there was a survivor of the crash, the baby Glenna was carrying a little boy she named Courtney after her father before her death. However, as the Hammond family is a rich and influential one, they want to keep Courtney in England but as both Alex and Morgan are named as guardians, she wants to be part of his life. The pair argue frequently about Courtney’s future and in the end, Alex proposes that they get married so they can both raise Courtney together in America.
However, the Hammond family greatly disapproves of this particularly Alex’s mother Rita and his sister Janet. As the pair get engaged and prepare to raise a child between them Janet worms her way in making Morgan believe that Alex is actually Courtney’s father not Mark and it drives a real wedge between the would-be parents.
In the end it comes to light that Rita and Janet weren’t being cruel for the sake of it but purely because they had some misconceptions about Morgan and felt that it was in Courtney’s best interest to stay with them. In the end, Morgan and Alex get married and raise Courtney between them with the promise that he will know all about his parents and what wonderful people they were. A real touching story that made me tear up.

I received this manga from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review!

When our MC loses her sister and brother-in-law due to a plane crash she suddenly is the guardian of their child (apparently and magically her sister still lived after that crash and managed to give birth to a very adorable baby boy). However she isn't the only one. Alex, her brother-in-law, is also guardian. And well, these two really don't mesh. But hey, it is harlequin, we all know how this will end.

Man, I hated that mom. Constantly being a bitch about everything, smearing our MC's family name through mud and worse. Not even giving the girl a chance. All she wants is to see her nephew, the son of her late sister. All she wants is to care for him.

I also got a bit tired of their battle on who could get custody. Did you both forget that your sister wanted it to be both of you? Hello? I guess respecting someone's dying wishes is very very hard. :|

Ugh, I just wanted to drop this book after a bit because everyone was bitching about our MC's family, especially Glenna. Good grief. Just because someone is an actress doesn't mean she is all that. Urgh.

*sighs* Really, that is your solution to this problem? Oh good grief. Typical, so typical.

I did love that she had saved herself for her wedding night. Most of these Harlequin manga feature woman just diving into beds with the hot guys, but this girl actually waited.

And again, talk people, talk! Open your mouth and actually say what you want to say. Don't just turn away from each other when someone tells you stuff (that could easily be lies, one never knows).

But yeah, dramaramaramarama. So much of it. But again, I still can't hate the endings of these manga. This one is again so adorable and cute.

The art... mm, hit and miss. It was quite pretty in scenes, but sometimes body proportions seemed a bit weird, faces seemed off.

Another story where the couple starts as enemy and then fall in love, not bad but I didn't like the premises so much....

Un'altra di quelle storie dove la coppia all'inizio é comporta da nemici che piano piano si innamorano. non male ma non mi sono piaciute le premesse.

THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

In this story two people are brought together by tragic circumstances and then find themselves falling in love.

Morgan is an actress whose life is devastated when her pregnant sister and brother in law die in a plane crash. She is even more devastated when she learns that her sister managed to give birth before she died and now Morgan has a nephew in England.

Alex Hammond, her sister's brother in law visits her, hoping to persuade her to give up custody of the baby to him. Of course she refuses and she travels with him back to England so she can meet the baby. When she gets there she meets the baby and the strange hostility and rudeness of the Hammond family and she wonders how her sister survived it.

Still grieving she starts to take care of the baby and decides that she wants full custody of her nephew who is named Courtney, but Alex has different ideas.

When Alex proposes marriage Morgan is shocked but the idea grows on her and so does her attraction to Alex Hammond. Should she seize this opportunity so that she can bring her nephew, up or should she seek another option? Her devastated parents are shocked and bereaved but they don't want Morgan to tie herself down in marriage to someone she doesn't love. In any case Morgan is her own woman and so she marries Alex and cares for Courtney. Her feelings and attraction for Alex explode but she still has to deal with hostility from Hammonds family.

I enjoyed this because I liked the hope that emerged from the accident. I particularly liked the way Morgan handled the hostility against her head on! Realising she needed to fight back she does so because not only is she fighting for her nephew, she is also fighting for a real life with her husband. Morgan is also feisty and not afraid of conflict, and she is pretty strong minded and this was good to see.

All in all I enjoyed this story and the artwork is great too.

Book title : Lifelong Affair
Author : Carole Mortimer; Illustrator : Yu Senke
Release Date : 1 January 2019

Megan lost her sister Glenna and Mark, her brother-in-law because of the plane crash accident. The couple left Megan and Alex, Mark’s brother as the guardian for their newborn son. In order to get the custody for the baby, they decided to get married.

Megan finally realised that Alex’s family did not accept Glenna because she used to be an actress. Anyhow, as time goes by, the marriage for convenient led them into a sweet romance until Janet , Alex’s sister threw a rumour that the baby is not Mark’s but Alex’s. Ah, that was when the conflict began.

I personally think that this book is fun to read. Sheesh, I hate Alex’s mum and Janet, the sister. They are so bitchy…such an old kill-joy that always see people cynically. It was just because they have gone through unpleasant experiences, they should not drag other people to miserably live like them tho! Concerning the artwork, it is something that the manga lover will definitely love!
