Review: In Lady Folbroke’s Delicious Deception, we follow Emily who husband Adrian is an Earl but 3 years ago he went to London and never returned. Now is cousin Rupert is trying to claim Adrien’s land as his own unless Emily produces an heir, in the moment Emily tells Rupert that she is pregnant but now she has only months to make a baby actually appear.
She decides to travel to London and find her husband, despite the fact that his faithful servant Hendricks repeatedly tells her that her husband isn’t there, she is firm and won’t leave until she sees him. Hendricks finally caves in and Emily learns that during the war he husband was blinded and hasn’t returned home for this reason. Being a clever woman Emily comes up with a plan to prove to Adrien that he is still worthy of being loved even without his sight. She thinks up a persona to present to Adrien and he ends up falling in love with the nameless woman.
Over time Emily realises that she has to come clean especially when she learns that Adrien is slowly drinking himself to death, so when she visits Adrien after he presents himself back into society and isn’t rejected, she feels she has a chance. However, Adrien realises that she has tricked him, and he has also heard from Rupert that she is pregnant and turns her away. Once again it is Hendricks who steps in to tell Adrien how stupid he is being, and that Emily has only ever loved him, that she isn’t pregnant and that everything she has done was only to get him to return home to her.
Realising his mistake Adrien goes to find Emily at great cost to his pride but he manages to tell her exactly how he feels, and they return home together. We then jump forward several years where Hendricks is still employed by the Folbroke family, but the only difference is they now have 4 children and are living happily ever after.

This was an interesting story set in regency England.

A young wife is abandoned by her husband, not knowing that he has run away to prevent her from finding out that he is losing his sight. After three years with little contact she decides to find out herself what is happening. When she finds him she embarks upon an elaborate plan to win him back.

It is nice to have a historical manga romance. It has all the great artwork of the contemporary manga romances and this one has a good story.

It was a well written/drew manga that happened in probably Victorian times. It was full of love, understanding, getting to know some truths and fighting for the love of your life.
I really enjoyed it.

I am not completely convinced and still have mixed feelings about this manga, but ok, maybe it's just my fault....

Non sono completamente convinta e ho ancora dei sentimenti contrastanti nei confronti di questo manga, ma ok, magari é solo colpa mia....

THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

Book title : Lady Folbroke’s Delicious Deception

Author : Christine Merill ; Illustrator : Riho Sachimi

Release Date : 1 November 2018

Lord Adrian of Folbroke and Lady Emily for Folbroke are teenage sweethearts and later become husband and wife. Soon after the wedding, the husband leaves for London and never comes back. Alas, they have been living separately for three years. Little that Lady Folbroke knows, her husband is suffering from losing his eye sight because of the war. When Emily finds out about her husband’s condition, she decides to play a little bit of game by pretending to be a seductress. She later seduces Adrian, the attraction sparks and Adrian falls for her. Yet what will she face when Adrian finally finds out the truth? What happens next? Ah, those are just a little bit of the “climaxes” of this manga-version.

I personally love the story tho. I do not know why but I fall in love with it. Emily is so understanding and despite of him-being a jackass, Adrian is super cute. The manga is also great-illustrated and making the story more attracting.

A more historical fiction romance story than most of the Harlequin Manga I have read so far, but I have to say that I was more than happy to try it out. Would it work out for me, or is my preference the more modern of romances.

That poor thing, marrying a handsome man at such a young age (though I guess back in that time setting it was normal) and then having him leave her alone and stay in London doing heavens know what. Of course, people aren't too happy about this, and there is immediate drama. Oh dear heavens, the drama begins from the start. Oh, dear, that lie is going to bite her in the butt. Fake marriage is one thing, acting like you are pregnant, with the heir even, oh my. Oh my!

And when we do find out the truth about the earl, I am sorry, but do I need to feel sorry for the dude? It sucks that he is having all that, but to just marry and dump your wife? At least be honest, I know this is historical stuff, so the values were different, but sorry this is just a dickmove. Especially since apparently he doesn't have problems with kissing woman (and goodness know what else). Bah.

Her plan? Eh, sweet, and cute that she was willing to do so much for a man who just married her and left her all by herself without any hint of what was going on, but yeah, I just couldn't help but roll my eyes and wonder how I was ever going to get through 100 more pages of this nonsense.

And really? You don't want to see her (we are talking about Dicky Mcdickface) because you haven't been able to support or provide for her? You don't feel like you have a right to see her? What the hell is wrong with you dude? *sighs*

I am just so pissed that he is going to meet another woman, OK she is actually his wife, but still, that doesn't make it better. What a dick this dude is. Can someone kick him into a river or something, please? And then after sex, he is still like, oh but I can't say I love you, because of my wife and I can't betray her more. Um, dude? Really? Oh my word, I am just arggggghhhh.

Why can't she just be honest with the guy? *sighs* I am really frustrated with this book. Dear Lord in all heavens.

Oh good grief, more drama when she is finally honest. Dang that dude is so frustrating. Thankfully his loyal servant/friend is also pissed, whoop whoop finally someone gives that dude a whopping. Go go go. Tell him how gigantic bastard and whiny booboo he is being. :|

Ha, and the ending ends with cliche upon cliche. Whoop, thank the lord I am done with this manga. Historical manga just isn't for me, or maybe it is just this one that is terrible due to the insufferable idiots populating it.

The art was the only saving grace of this book. It was absolutely gorgeous!

But other than that, no thank you. Happy I am done and I can delete this book from my ADE.

Emily married the dream husband when she was just 17 but found herself in a nightmare of loneliness when her Adrian left her 3 years ago with only his faithful servant to watch out for her and bring her few elusive news on his health. One day a chance encounter at a public house changes everything. Emily finds out her husband is practically blind and does not recognise her. She therefore decides to play the role of a courtesan to be closer to the man she loves. However, word reaches Adrian that Emily is pregnant and an unexpected rival as well as his insecurities may ruin their chance at love forever...

This a very well plotted story with excellent art to support it. I wholeheartedly recommend this manga for lovers of historical romance.
