I really wanted a chance to read these manga, but unfortunately the files expired before I had a chance to get to them. Based on cover design and description, a majority of the books sound interesting. Perhaps next time I will have time to read the eARC sooner.

Title: Surrender to a Playboy
Author: Erio Hori
Genre: Manga
Rating: *****
Review: So, this synopsis sounds like a perfect adaptation to the manga format: “Mary works for a woman of great wealth who has asked Mary to send for her grandson, Bonner, whom she hasn’t seen for several years. So Mary sent letter after letter to Bonner, asking him to come. When her letters go ignored, she writes a final letter to him, saying that he will be disinherited if he fails to come. When Bonner shows up after her last letter, Mary is furious with the good-for-nothing. But something about this seemingly gentle, handsome man makes her feelings waver. She knows he’s a heartless playboy…so why is she attracted to him?”
We learn very early on that Bonner doesn’t actually come to his grandmother’s as he can’t leave the state because of a crime he committed so in his place he sends his best friend and lawyer Taggart. When Taggart meets Mary, he is instantly smitten which is something he wasn’t expecting after the sudden death of his wife Annalisa.
While Mary is extremely hostile towards “Bonner” because of his playboy lifestyle she finds herself falling for him however, when is ex-girlfriend Lee shows up, she avoids him even more believe in his image and reputation rather than what she can see in front of her. Things take a different turn when Joe her half-sister Becca’s father runs away with her after the court granted Mary 2 weeks with her sister. From behind the scenes Taggart who Mary still believes is Bonner pulls some strings and hire a private detective to find Becca while also leads to Joe being arrested. This means that Mary gets full custody of her sister as her mother is dead.
When she talks to Miz Witty, Bonner’s grandmother about it she shows Mary a photo of Taggart and Bonner and when she calls Taggart’s office, she learns that Bonner is in court today. Upon learning this Miz Witty asks her to fly to the court and find out what is going on but when she arrives the man she had known as Bonner is defending the real Bonner. That’s when Mary learns of the real deception but Taggart after winning the case is moving away and in a last-ditch effort to talk to him, Mary jumps into the cab Taggart is in.
In the cab he confesses that despite not knowing her long he has fallen completely in love with her and for the first time Mary admits to herself that she has fallen in love with this man despite thinking her was Bonner for the whole time she knew him. The ending of this story was great, Taggart and Mary end up as a couple and it is almost like they have a child of their own in Becca. A wonderful family story.

Mary thinks the worst of the scoundrel grandson her old widowed client yearns to see, but if nursing the old woman means she has to get the guy visit his grandmother, she will get him do it one way or another. She therefore sends him a letter alleging the old woman is dying and he will be disinherited unless he visits. So Bonner shows up at their door, a gourgeous looking man who takes Mary’s breath away despite her best intentions. But something does not add up. What did this kind, attentive man do to the scoundrel who let his grandmother alone for over a decade? Will the real Bonner please stand up? A delightful romance with an unexpected twist that will hook you till the end.

This was engaging and actually a really interesting story about a young man who tries to cover for his friend who is constantly in trouble. He pretends to be his friend and visits the friend's grandmother and there he falls in love with the grandmother's nurse.

Alas she doesn't like him because she thinks he is callous and uncaring. She doesn't realise the man she despises is not actually who he says he is.

It is a good story especially towards the end in the run up to the big reveal. Great artwork brings the story to life. Another really good manga romance.

<Another of my favorite topoi: the person exchange! And I also love that there are not twins in this story!

Un altro dei miei topoi preferiti: lo scambio di persone e inoltre stavolta non ci sono nemmeno dei gemelli inclusi!

THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

Book title : Surrender to a Playboy
Author : Renee Roszel; Illustrator : Erio Hori
Release Date : 16 December 2018

Meet Taggart Lancaster, a good looking lawyer who defends his client Bonner Wittering. Meet also Mary, a country girl whom he met during his “mission-impossible” while he went undercover. Taggart replaced Bonner and met Bonner’s grandmother in the country. They made this agreement because Bonner was Taggart’s close friend. In the country, Taggart later met Mary and was intrigued not only by her beauty but also because of her kindness. Mary was also the same. She likes Taggart whom she referred as Bonner. What happened when Mary finally find out Taggart’s real identity?

I actually have read the novel before reading the manga version and I must say that the novel does not fancy me that much like the manga version. The manga version is way better than the novel. I think it is because the illustration helps the readers to understand the chronologies of the stories better. Ah, I wish I read the manga version first tho.

I received this manga from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I just adore this cover, and then especially the guy on it. He looks quite swoony. Though I am a bit worried about the playboy part of the manga, and I am also kind of wondering how much drama will be in this one. Considering that guy didn't respond to our MC's letters, and she is furious with him, but also attracted to him, I can just imagine the drama.

Ah, and the drama already starts from the start, as our Bonner isn't the Bonner. Yep, this dude is posing as his best friend who did some criminal stuff and can't leave the city. Oh dear. Doing that to an older lady? How could you. That is such a dick move. Just tell your friend no. *sighs*

I did like that we see both of our MCs, sometimes the guys get a small bit of text or a few pages, but it seems we get equal amounts from both in this one. I am happy as otherwise the story wouldn't have worked.

Oh, ef no. No, just no. NOPE. You don't push a woman who just rejected you against the wall and forcibly kiss her and hold her. NOPE.

"Bonner.. who exactly are you?" Well, for one, he isn't Bonner. :|

Wow, that lawyer lady needs to understand that she can't just barge into her ex's life like that. It is over, how many times does he need to tell her that? I really don't like woman who push like this. Plus she was just way too rude towards Mary.

I knew instantly what had happened when Becca disappeared and "Bonner" got that look on his face. And yes, I cried. As soon there is just the sweetest scene that made me sigh in relief and cry in happiness.

And finally, FINALLY, the truth comes out. And not in the best ways. But eh, at least it is finally out. I do wonder why grandma never noticed? I know she is old, but it seemed she could still see pretty OK, so how did she not notice her grandson looking like a totally different person?

The ending was so sweet though, and I am happy with it, though I did think it was a bit rushed. For one while I did see the attraction between them, tons of things were based on a lie, and that is just not a very good foundation for a relationship.

The art? I quite liked the style, it was cute. "Bonner" was very swoony, and I also liked the designs of the other characters.

All in all, still a pretty decent manga/story, I did have fun reading it.
