I'm pretty sure that A Matter of Will is my first foray into the world of bestselling author Adam Mitzner, and it certainly didn't disappoint me; not in the slightest! It's a surprisingly ambitious thriller with a plethora of twists pushing you into backing the wrong horse. Because of this, I found myself having to constantly revise my opinion to suit the changing situation as I feverishly turned the pages desperately daring the dastardly Mr Mitzner to fool me again and to my glee, he obliged several times. Now it's not often I appreciate being taken for a ride but the plotting was just so wickedly clever that I revelled in my utter foolishness for the entirety of the book.

Barely a page goes by without some form of excitement and once it gets going the pace is pretty spot on. It's a refreshingly original thriller not least because of the Wall Street, high society setting and vibe running throughout. It is based around Will Matthews, a struggling stockbroker who accepts the financial aid offered to him by Sam Abaddon. After all, he knows he will be in dire straits without it. But what he didn't bargain for was the curtain drawing back to reveal quite how dangerous being involved with Sam is. Perhaps a brief check on Sam's character would've been a wise move BEFORE accepting help.

What follows is a nail-biting, heart-thumping adrenaline-fuelled ride; a ride Will sincerely wishes he could disembark. Highly recommended. Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer for an ARC.

Adam Mitzner has done it again. In A Matter of Will we find young Will, picked out by his seatmates at a hockey game as their investment advisor and given the chance of a lifetime which allows him to ride to the top of his company and the top of the good life. Too good to be true? It always is, or so it appears.
The twists and turns are enjoyable and unpredictable. I hope to see the next book soon.

Will Matthews is a broker-in-training at a prestigious wealth management firm in New York City. A job he loves but risks losing if he can’t stir up a few new clients to meet his quota. Hmmm…perhaps a chance meeting at a hockey game may turn Will’s luck around. But is there an unexpected price to pay?

Gwen Lipton is an up and coming lawyer with one of the most powerful law firms in New York City. She’s just been given the rare opportunity to join the team handling a high profile murder case! Is this the break from the overbearing routine her life has become?

This was a very compulsive read that I quickly breezed through in just a couple days. While some of the story-line was a tad predictable, Adam Mitzner threw in enough explosive moments to keep me on my toes!

My second read from this author and you can bet I’ll be looking out for more!

Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer and Adam Mitzner for an ARC to read and review.

Will Matthews is a young guy trying to make it on Wall Street as a wealth manager with a large firm. Worried he may not make his quota and risk being fired, he feels that he hits to jackpot when he meets Sam Abaddon, a very wealthy man who seems to want to invest with Will. He also meets Gwen, an attorney that seems to be just perfect for him. Lots of good things coming his way, he seems to be getting it all. That's where I will stop and save any further details as I don't want to spoil the plot. I really enjoyed this. I liked Adam Mitzner's writing style and his character development of Will and Gwen. It was fast paced and exciting. I read this book in one sitting as I couldn't put it down and highly recommend. I will definitely be looking into further reads by Adam Mitzner in the future.

Special Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for allowing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Decent legal & financial thriller. Enjoyed the relationship between Matthews and his love interest Lipton. Abaddon was perfection in his oily smoothness - pitch perfect menace

Will Matthews works for a NYC investment firm. While under pressure to increase his quota, he has a chance meeting at a hockey game with an obviously wealthy man. Suddenly, Will’s fortunes begin to change. The chance meeting results in a new and very lucrative client. Gwen, a female lawyer he meets on a dating website, turns out to be perfect match. Will is suddenly on top of the world. But, things are never truly what they seem and that’s when problems begin to develop.

The story actually follows both Will and Gwen as they navigate their careers and question their choices and I especially enjoyed this aspect of the book. A Matter of Will is reminiscent of the John Grisham novels – fast-paced, with interesting characters, well-developed dialogue and a good plot. This would an excellent book to take on that long flight or to read while sitting by the pool. It reads quickly and is most enjoyable.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

This may well remind you of other novels or movies but you know what- it's still a good read. Will's on top of the world with a great job, tremendous earning potential, and the love of Gwen. And then he's not because faced with the truth about Sam, the man he works for. You might not agree with all of Will's decisions and moves but that's what makes this a good read. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Mitzner knows how to control the twists and the tensions. Very good beach or travel read.

Adam Mitzner is one of the best in the thriller/suspense Mystery genre. His stories are always fast moving, gripping, and well written. A matter of Will will be on everyone's TBR pile this summer.

I have quickly become a fan of Adam Mitzner's writing. The way that he weaves the plots together and has you going on a journey with his characters is unmatched in his genre today. Even if his stories are out there, you still want to go on the ride with the characters and see what is going to happen to them.

In this book we get the story of Will Matthews, a young NYC stock broker. Will has dreams of making it big on the stock market. When Will get tickets to a NY Rangers game and he ends up sitting next to Sam and Eve, Will wants to know how Sam became so wealthy and to be like him one day. After they leave the game, Sam gives Will a call that will change his life forever. Sam gives Will a substantial amount of money to invest. Is Will going to make the right decisions or should he have just left the money alone?

Gwen, Will's girlfriend that he meet on a dating site, seems to be the one to help him keep his head on straight during this whirlwind that they are going through. We get a side story with Gwen being a young lawyer and involved with a murder trial. I love how there are two different plots going on. It keeps you on your toes for sure while you are reading this one.

I highly recommend you pick this one up and read it. You will not be disappointed! I have to say that I think Adam Mitzner had outdone himself with this one for sure!

Thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for an advanced copy of this story. All opinions are my own.

Will Matthews is a trainee at an investment firm in NYC, and has had a very rough go, to the point that he can see the writing on the wall that he will soon be let go for failure to meet quotas. While attending a NY Rangers hockey game he is seated next to an obvious "power couple". Conversation ensues, and the whirlwind of good fortune starts spinning in Will's direction.

There is no surprise in the source of funds that Will is given to invest. All along the paper trail for the funds seems shady at best. I found it interesting that the BSA/AML/KYC (Bank Secrecy Act/Anti money Laundering/Know Your Customer) controls at Will's firm were lax enough that legal and compliance bought off on the paperwork and wire transfers of funds into the company. There certainly should have been red flags. I don't know if this was meant to be an indictment of hedge funds and investment firms or not, but it was an entertaining side of the story to me because I have some experience in the financial crimes risk management arena.

I found the story to be very well told and the writing style engaging. I was anxious to continue reading, even at times when I needed to set aside the book. Other than the above mentioned "gap" in the story, I was interested and enjoyed reading it. There are two story threads to the book. There is Will and the investment banking story line, and Gwen, who is an attorney at a high power NYC firm. The writing had the same feelings as some Grisham novels, such as the Firm, where the legal side was very well delivered and also engaging. It turned out to also have a strong relevance to the overall story arc.

The story moves at a good pace, and has a few surprises along the way that add to the enjoyment and rush factor. I've not read many books by Adam Mitzner, this being his eighth novel, but I am very interested in reading the rest of them now.

9.0 out of 10 stars

A fun book for sure: Sort of a "Godfather" meets "Wall Street" that pits wet-behind-the-ears stockbroker Will Matthews with a filthy rich rich stranger who met him at a hockey game and made him an offer he couldn't But as Will Matthews soon learns, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

At first, Will - who is struggling to make his quarterly quota of new clients - is puzzled by the out-of-the-blue attention he gets from Samuel Abaddon (and by proxy, Sam's drop-dead gorgeous girlfriend, Eve). After turning over ludicrous amounts of money to Will to supervise, Sam showers the young man with expensive dinners and other high-priced treats - all with no apparent strings attached. Despite a few "why me" moments, Will can't help but think he's died and gone to heaven.

As all this is going on, lawyer Gwen Lipton is trying to make a name for herself in the huge firm for which she works, but she can't escape the reality that she's just treading water. Needless to say, neither Will nor Gwen have much time for a personal life, but they both turn to dating apps once in a while for quickie meetups that both hope might turn into something more meaningful. And surprise (well, not really) - the two meet up and hit it off. Any real romance, though, is destined for the back burner as Sam's demands on Will's time grow by the minute and Gwen suddenly gets assigned to one of the firm's highest profile cases: Defending a movie mogul who's charged with murdering his wife.

As more and more money comes Will's way, he starts to worry about what he's gotten himself into; but the lure of success, his eternally optimistic outlook and the clearance of each deal by his employer's oversight officers convince him that everything is on the up and up. That is, until it's not; seeing a murder happen opens his eyes to some very unpleasant and unsettling truths. But can he do anything about it? And even if he can, will he?

Most of the story focuses on Will's situation, but I really enjoyed the progress and conclusion of Gwen's murder trial (which plays into the book's ending). My own conclusion is that while I wasn't exactly blown away with excitement, this is an easy-to-read, thoroughly enjoyable book that's a perfect accompaniment for a lounge chair on the beach or in front of a cozy fireplace. My thanks to the publisher, via NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review an advance copy.

An excellent page turner. Well written, exciting and a credible plot. The two main characters were well drawn and you wanted them to come through their travails unscathed and of course they do.

A good cynical overview of both the legal and investment worlds where the underdog triumphs.

I enjoy legal thrillers but this didnt make the cut for me. It’s not very relatable or believable. More drama than expected. Unfortunately the plot twist was not a shocker either

Will Matthews is young somewhat I naive (I did feel a bit too naive considering his profession) stockbroker trying to make is big on Wall Street. The only problem is that he is about to be fired, that is until he meets Sam Abbadon, whose business may rescue his career.

When Sam decides to invest millions with Will, he becomes the star of the company overnight, he meets lovely Gwen and life has never been better. Naturally that is the best life will be for Will, as he becomes embroiled in a crime and the realisation that Sam is not who he seems to be.

I thought initially that this novel may be headed in the direction of The Devils' Advocate, particularly as Sam's surname means the Destroyer or Angel of Death. There is however no supernatural element and it does take quite a twist. And while I do enjoy a nice ending tied up in a bow, this one did seem a bit far-fetched. This novel was however an entertaining afternoon read.

I’m always excited to read Adam Mitzner’s books since they are different from all the other Thrillers I usually read which are mostly psychological thrillers.
All of Mitzner’s books are set in the best city of the world, New York City, and usually focus on big legal cases and the law firms and lawyers involved. A Matter of Will, however, mostly focuses on Will Matthews, Wall Street stock broker. Reading a book about a stock broker was a first for me but it was interesting to learn about their lives and what it means working on Wall Street.
But a Mitzner novel wouldn’t be complete without at least a little bit of a legal story. This part was reserved for Gwen Lipton, attorney at Taylor Beckett.

Reading legal thrillers is not always easy. Even after watching Suits, I still have some difficulties with all the different and foreign sounding legal jargon. But Mitzner is always quick to explain certain legal jargons or situations in a very comprehensible way.

Even though it was nice to read about a stock broker in one of Mitzner’s thrillers, I couldn’t really get into Will’s story. Reading about all the people who invest millions of dollars only to make even more money is not really something I am interested in. Super rich people are more than a little bit dodgy to me.
Gwen Lipton’s story, however, was something I was really interested in. I wish there would have been more scenes with her and her current legal case. There was so much more potential.
With that being said I think that writing two different stories in one book, was a little bit too much and confusing for my liking. It made sense in the end, obviously (even though that “sense” was very little), but I still had liked it better differently.

The more I read, the weirder this story got – Will’s side of the story. I’m not really sure if a situation like that would ever occur in real life but at least to me it seemed a little over the top and not really believable. Not even the plot twist, which was not a real shocker, could make it any better.
Even though I had some issues with the plot, I think that A Matter of Will was an interesting and solid thriller. It will release on June 25th!

A Matter of Will starts off with a formula we’ve seen before. A young struggling financial manager desperate to land accounts to save his job, while embarking on a new relationship after a series of failed relationships, has an opportunity fall into his lap. He doesn’t’ stop to think that something too good to be true likely is too good to be really true, and in typical noire fashion, he makes a choice that he can’t undo. Sam, the protagonist, is a man of mystery, and his girlfriend, Eve, certainly helps tempt Adam, er, Will, to take the first bite. Yes, there’s a bit of obvious symbolism with Sam’s address (666) and the temptress Eve, but the author actually has a bit of fun with it and the book doesn’t go too far down that path. In fact, it doesn’t even go all the way down the path I thought it was going. Halfway through the book, the plot takes a big twist, followed by more, and the author really had me guessing and flying through the last half of the book to find out how this was going to wrap up. No spoilers here, read it, you’ll be glad you did.

A Matter of Will
This novel is a good and easy read. The protagonist, Will, is the
lowest of the low on the New York brokerage house totem pole. He cold
calls, makes no money and is more or less an indentured servant.
On Valentine's Eve, alone at a hockey game, Will finds himself seated
next to a well dressed gentleman, Sam, and his gorgeous bombshell
girlfriend, Eve. After the game, Sam and Eve treat Will to a very
expensive dinner at a steakhouse where it is obvious that Sam is well known. Soon, Sam
wires some money into Will's brokerage firm for him to manage. Will doesn't look very closely at this and
can hardly believe his good fortune. His supervisor really can't imagine it
and demands to meet the client.
There is absolutely no question that Sam is engaged in something
questionable and, not surprisingly, Will's supervisor is killed in a
traffic accident before his meeting with Sam. The money continues to
roll in and, naturally, it's only a matter of time before Will becomes
buried beneath it. As Will becomes more entwined with Sam's business, his love life has also picked up. Will
meets a lawyer, Gwen, who is picked from the hundred's of other
attorneys in her firm to assist with the murder trial of a big-time
movie director accused of killing his wife. Together, Gwen and Will try to extricate him from a mess of which he is not entirely blameless. This novel is filled with nefarious characters, plot twists, sleazy
stockbrokers, and criminals of all types. It is great fun following
along to see if Will can survive the mayhem and get the girl, too.

This is a perfect beach / holiday read. Pure escapism. Will works as a lowly young Wall St broker who is days away from being fired, due to not hitting the targets imposed by his crass, overbearing boss. Then, he finds himself meeting a mult millionaire who appears interested in letting Will invest his money. Mmmm.... what could possibly go wrong?

This is fast paced and fun.

I couldn’t quite get into this book. The plot was a little silly . I figured it out right away & so it was hard to finish. I haven’t read this author before but it didn’t quite win me over to read the next one. Sorry I couldn’t rate it higher.

I tried, I really tried, to get into this story, but was unable to warm to the characters and complete the book. I enjoyed the two other books by Adam Mitzner that I've read (Dead Certain and Never Goodbye), and I was misled by Amazon into thinking that this book was a continuation of the Broden Legal series (it's not) Mitzner is a good storyteller, but this book wasn't for me as I couldn't get past how gullible Will seemed.
