The patterns are easy to read, fun, and inspiring. You can go for days with no boredom with this one. For those who love crocheting, I would highly recommend this book. It’s easy to understand and great for beginners. Those of us who are experienced, it’s a great reference for your crochet library. I especially love the patterns where they change colors. Now I’m off to crochet, crochet, and crochet some more.
I received a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I requested this book when I was first getting into Crocheting. This was a very helpful book once I got into the flow of things. I wish it explained things little better, it was difficult to understand it at first. And the pictures didn't really help with that much. But once I did understand, I was able to do most of them.

This book is a comprehensive collection of stitches, with drawn patterns, easy to follow diagrams and straightforward instructions that make it suitable for beginners (including totally unco-ordinated ones like me).
Better yet, the layout of the book is perfect for browsing if you’re not sure what stitch you want to learn next. There’s plenty of variety to be found (200, funnily enough) but they all look different rather than subtle variations on the same stitch which means you’re bound to find something you like.
I’ve never been able to follow patterns before this book but seeing the diagrams in tandem with the instructions has made all the difference.
I would strongly recommend this book for beginners learning the basic skills and for more experienced hookers wanting to looking to expand their repertoire.

The Step-by-Step Guide to 200 Crochet Stitches by Tracey Todhunter is a wealth of information. I am fairly new to crochet and found this very helpful. It is full of pictures and written instructions for each of the stitches. I can see this being a useful reference especially if I ever get brave enough to venture past written patterns. I am not sure if a very experienced crochet would enjoy this, but it is great for a beginner or intermediate.

There are 200 very colourful crochet stitches to add to your crochet knowledge base for further use. The stitch pattern are explained both in the written form and through charts - making it easy to follow. There are large full colour examples of all the stitches, and would make a wonderful addition to any avid woolsmith collection of patterns.
With these there would be an easy step to make up your own designed crochet article. The end of the book has some crochet basic instructions for the beginner.

This book is a directory of 200 different crochet stitches with information on basic stitches, techniques, and reading symbols and abbreviations.

The book is split into 11 different stitch types: basic, fans & shells, clusters, puffs & popcorns, spike, raised, mesh & filet, lace & openwork, waves & chevrons, textured, Tunisian, colourwork and edgings along with
Crochet skills.

Each stitch type in the directory comes with colour photography of the complete stitch, along with steps and a chart to help create each stitch. The steps are written in abbreviations, though there is a table at the rear to explain each meaning if the reader is a beginner or needs a refresher.I

I've been crocheting myself for a few years, knowing some of the basic stitches, so I'd find this book useful to use alongside full patterns. It's not always clear to me if I'm doing it quite right, but this book certainly helps me feel more confident.

I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.

This is a beautiful and clear guide to crochet stitches! It is useful for both beginner and experienced crocheter alike. It includes charts and written instructions with clear photographs for many of the steps for each stitch. It covers a full range of stitches. From the basics which include not only the standard stitches but also fans and shells, clusters, puffs, and popcorns. If that weren't enough there are examples of spikes, raised stitches, waves, chevrons, and textured stitches. Want more? In addition to mesh and filet, other lace and open work stitches, you can explore tunisian stitches, colourwork, and eleven edgings! This is the book I wish I had access to years ago.

(Note this is published in the UK by Search Press Ltd as 200 More Crochet Stitches)

This is an outstanding book which contains 200 full instructional crochet stitches. Each one is brilliantly photographed in color. The instructions to make the stitch are contained following the picture. The unique thing about this book is that the instructions are in color and the stitch is shown on the crochet hook. It also contains a graph which shows how two rows look. This is refreshing after the usual black and white drawing of how to make a stitch with nothing more.

This is the best book of crochet stitches I have ever seen. I am an avid crocheter that is always looking to try new stitches. This book will keep me in varied projects for years to come.

I received an ARC from F + W Media through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book.

I thought I'd give Tracey Todhunter's The Step-by-Step Guide to 200 Crochet Stitches a try when I found it available on Netgalley. I've always been a knitter, first and foremost, but have taken on learning basic crochet when a particular project jumped out at me and made me say "I have to make that!"

The book is beautifully put together from the colours standing out against the white background to the easy to read charts. (The charts gave me shudders at first as I've never tackled charted crochet before but within a few rows, I was reading the charts more than the written instructions.) It didn't take long to want to make everything so I picked up some contrasting yarn and randomly picked three.

Todhunter's guide is a great addition to any craft library. Comprehensive and colourful and one you'll be picking up over and over.

Great book lots to learn from it. It’s perfect for crochet fans new or old. I crochet but learned from this book and will most definitely seek it out in the book shops

Love looking at this book! A great selection of stitches and patterns to use in designing for beginner, as well as experience.crocheter. It is great to see the symbols used in diagrams represented and the texture stitches and the touching upon Tunisian stitches. Definitely recommend to put into any crocheters’s library or anyone starting the library. This is not the whole picture of crochet but a good start towards it!

Was accepted but it then would not let me download. It just disappeared from the Start Reading tab. Disappointing!

A perfectly detailed guide to crochet by. I have been crocheting for 20 years and I love finding new stitches. There are so many in this book I had never heard of. I do think you need some experience in order to be able to do most of these stitches. However, many are extremely versatile and I can't wait to create new items using these stitches.

I love doing crochet and have made many items over the years. I’m always on the lookout for new stitches to make my projects a little bit different, so I really liked the idea of this book. The book itself is bright and colourful. It uses different colours for different types of stitches and the pictures with a kaleidoscope of colours is really attractive.

There is a directory of stitches at the front of the book so you can easily see which stitch you want. A wide variety of different stitches means that you will always find what you need to make that project that extra bit special. To name a few, there are embossed shells, pebble lace, four leafed clover and shells and puffs. There are clear instructions for each stitch, complete with diagrams and pictures of the finished stitches in a square so you can see clearly what the end product will look like. For those of you who might need reminding on how to crochet, there is a “skill list” in the back, along with a list of abbreviations and symbols. I did get excited when I flicked through to the abbreviations as I thought the book was in English terminology (if you crochet you may realise that English and US terminology differs slightly). When I looked through the patterns, it did look like it was in fact US terminology, but that’s not a problem as you just need to remember to change some of the stitches.

It is definitely the book you need if you love to crochet. I would say this book is aimed at people who already know how to crochet. As I said, there is a skills list, but this isn’t detailed enough if you are a complete beginner. Some of the stitches are also quite complex so may be difficult for a beginner to do. But….never say never, and even if you’ve never picked up a crochet hook but always wanted to, then this book may just be the book you need to get your started – you may find it really easy!! Would definitely recommend!

The Step-by-Step Guide to 200 Crochet Stitches is a tutorial guide and stitch dictionary of different crochet stitches by Tracey Todhunter. Released 22nd Jan 2019 by Interweave, it's 192 pages and available in paperback format.

This is a solid collection, arranged into logical chapters (basic stitches, fans & shells, clusters/puffs/popcorns, spike stitches, raised stitches, mesh/filet, lace/openwork, chevrons, texture, tunisian, colorwork, edgings, etc). There is a good table of contents with nicely sized color pictures of each stitch which include page numbers. There's a basic learn-to-crochet guide for beginners, so crocheters of all skill levels will find accessible instructions. Each of the 200 stitches in the collection includes both written directions and 'Japanese' stitch diagrams (yay for both!!).

Back in the dark ages (circa 1970something) I had a crochet stitch dictionary which I literally used until the pages were falling out and had to be taped back together. This one is better.

Five stars.

This book is an excellent reference for crocheting. I really like that the designs are drawn out because it helps me to visualize what is going on. I personally have trouble with print instructions for crochet and I think it is because I was self taught and haven’t made the connection. I do want to learn how to become better and I think this resource will be essential in doing so! I highly recommend it for the visual and print instructions.
