The Language of Love is a reissue of 1983 novel and what I found fascinating were the differences between romance of the ‘80s and today, especially in terms of the male advances. Most of the seductive behavior of the male character, Pieter Van Ness, would be viewed as predatory rather than sexy or desirable. His only saving grace was that he would back off if he was told, “No,” but he would bide his time until he felt the female (Annette Granger) would be more receptive of his advances. Annette struck me as being fickle rather than the strong, independent woman she sees herself as. The entire romance felt built upon his advances, her advances & her retreats. It is genuinely a novel from the ‘80s.

In The Language of Love, Annette, a widow, finds love with Pieter when she is asked by his sister to help organise flowers for her wedding.
I found Pieter pushy and actually, quite creepy. His and Annette's relationship is unbelievable and I had no interest in either of them.

A disappointing read.

This story shows there is hope after heartbreak. I felt so bad for Annette, who loses her husband at such a young age. She grieves and start her own business. She then is set up with Petier, who is older and knows what he wants. They develop a relationship, which takes a while due to Annette’s fears. In the end, their relationship is one that is full of sweetness and second chances.

This a sweet second chance romance that you will love.

Annette married the love of her life with a perfect wedding. Their life in London was perfect except that Tony died leaving Annette a widow very young. She fills her days with running a very successful flower shop business. She goes about life as usual when into her shop walks Pieter Van Ness. He comes bearing news of his sister who became a very clear friend to his sister Elena. Pieter feels like he knows Anette because of how fondly Elena has talked about her over the years. Annette is invited to Amsterdam to do the wedding f lo were for her dear friend who is having the wedding of the century in their small society. Pieter is a little unbelievable in his assertiveness and aggressiveness with. Annette. There lo is no way he can feel the way he does and act on those feelings being whom he is in his very successful hotel business.

A disappointing read. While the synopsis held promise, what we received was less than stellar. The author forced an intimacy on the two characters within the first meeting and the next week or so spent in each other’s company. Pieter was a pretentious asshole from the get go, assuming he knew anything about Annette and her life just because his sister mentioned it. It really bothered me the way he walked all over her and even though she argued it, she didn’t stop it from happening and just went along. Annette is supposed to be a strong character, at least that’s what the author wants you to think, but she’s pretty spineless. It all felt so outdated as well.

I was provided an ARC of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Annette disliked February because it was the month Tony died."It had been a traumatic time for Annette widowed at twenty when she and Tony had been married barely a year." It was a dream of theirs to move to London and open a flower shop.eight years later the shop has become a huge success.Annette was lonely. She was always around people and invited to events but that didn't help.Annette couldn't start a new relationship without thinking of Tony . The pacing was too slow for me.

This is the perfect type of light read that I enjoy during stressful and busy times. This was the typical romantic story, but I enjoyed it more than I typically enjoy this type of book. The characters were well developed and easy to root for.

The Language of Love is a timless romance story. I really loved the setting of Amsterdam! I thought it was a sweet and pleasurable read. It’s a book to read when you want to curl up and relax with a bottle of wine. I recommend it for anyone who loves a light romantic story.
