I love a good family centered lit fic. It was slower than I usually like, but I really enjoyed it from start to finish.

Excellent novel about 2 families and 1 tragic event that binds them together. Beautifully written with unforgettable characters. A must read.

I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.

I loved Keane's writing style and her ability to create authentic, flawed characters. Her story revolves around a violent act that has a ripple affect on the lives of two families. This interpretation of how trauma can affect family members is honest and true. I won't give away any other details that would ruin the plot of the book, but I have to say that there were some details that felt unrealistic. These were minor things but it took me away from the story at times.

Additionally, there were several threads of the story that were introduced and then abandoned. This is what kept me from giving this book a five-star review. Along with that aspect, the pacing felt a little too slow during the second half of the book. If the rest of the book had kept up with the first half, I would have been an instant fan.

I'd still probably recommend this, but won't rave about it. I've seen comparisons to "Little Fires Everywhere" and I can see that. Fans of that type of novel will probably enjoy this one as well.

I see why this book has received such critical acclaim. While none of the characters are easy to love, they are written with depth and skill. You’ll find yourself fully invested in them…for better and for worse. A gritty and gripping read.

Ask Again, Yes is the story of two kids that grow to love each other and eventually become husband and wife but it took years and time and forgiveness from several people to get them to that point. Katie Gleeson and Peter Stanhope’s story started when their NYPD fathers moved to the suburbs and their moms became pregnant at the same making them 6 months apart. That’s where the similarities stop. There were different worlds behind each closed door. Katie’s mom was determined to get to know her neighbors where Peter’s mom wanted nothing to do with anyone and readers eventually learn that Peter’s mom suffered a lot of heartache that led to unstable behaviors. When a childhood injury of leads to an argument between the parents an incident happens so catastrophic that the families don’t speak again for years and there is a rift between Katie and Peter that seems unfixable. But love is a strong bond and relentless in it’s pull to bring true soul mates together. After years of family turmoil and secrets and marriage and children, Peter and Katie come to their own cross roads and in a moment when Peter questions their love Katie reminds him that if ever asked if she would marry him again her answer would be yes.

I saw a ton of pictures and reviews floating around the book world of this book so I was skeptical because when the book doesn’t hold up to the hype it’s disappointing. I did end up liking Ask Again, Yes but it wasn’t my favorite. There seemed to be parts that I couldn’t place their purpose and the plot line was a little drawn out. I did enjoy the character development and the interaction of characters over several years and generations. I gave Ask Again, Yes 3 stars. I would recommend it to certain friends though.

Thank you again to Mary Beth Keane, Scribner Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Actually, on Goodreads I gave this 4.5* stars but just could not up it to 5*. I'm very fussy what books I give 5* to.
Did not post the link because part of this book was audio and I also commented on something that might be a spoiler. However, I liked the story and especially liked how the title 'fit'.

This book was just an okay read. Although there were a few twists in it the story overall was quite predictable and did not keep me interested.

Loved this book! This was in my top books of 2019 and a book I was able to talk with my Gramma about (who also loved this book). The family dynamics, sad love story, and beautiful writing are all aspects of a book that I love to read. Can't wait to read more from Mary Beth Keane.

A story filled with family drama and overcoming the odds. I found myself rooting for many of the characters in the story and felt I could relate to any number of them depending on my circumstances.

This is an emotional story that will make your heart ache at times. The lives of two families are explored and you will experience the things that affect most couples. From mental health issues to addiction to cancer….you will walk through these with the Gleesons and the Stanhopes.

I love stories that delve into human relationships and the myriad complications that are threaded throughout the book. The author does a great job of developing the characters and making you invested in their lives.

Thank you to NetGalley and Scribner Publishers for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own. This was definitely a thought provoking novel.

Such a beautiful story about family, love found, love lost and love found again. Some tragedies and even a bit of humor. Really well written and I really loved it!

I enjoyed this book with its very well plotted themes of family drama and the ramifications of the secrets that this family had kept secret for years. I will definitely read the next book this author writes. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley.

I loved this one! The beginning was slow and I had a hard time connecting with the story at first. But I stick with it and I’m so glad I did! The story of a romantic relationship with complicated beginnings eventually pulled me in and I couldn’t stop turning the pages to find out where their relationship would lead.

This book was heartbreaking and complicated, but beautifully written. The characters suck you in immediately, and the complicated family dynamics feel very real but impossibly sad. I loved spending time in this world and felt this book was a perfect companion to others I enjoyed, like Little Fires Everywhere and Commonwealth. I highly recommend it.

I loved this book. It is a tale of two families and a crime that tears them apart. It was well-written and a favorite with my book club. The story deals delicately with addiction and mental health but ultimately the story is relatable in that it's about people who are just trying to make the best of their lives. I found myself thinking about the characters throughout the day. I loved the shifting of perspectives and the way it told multiple stories at once. I would highly recommend.

This was a curious story, I rather liked it. Very slow moving, slowly paced, but the characters stuck out to me and this is why I kept reading. Would only recommend to readers with a lot of patience.
