This is the first book I had read from the author and it was good, when Charlie finds out that her boyfriend was married she flees back to her hometown and the people who she trusts more than anything. With her whole life up in the air, Charlie decides to take on a project of Holly Close Farm with her sister, unaware of what a challenge it would be or the secrets which will be revealed along the way. A wonderful story about love and secrets across years.

I love how the sisters, Charlie and Daisy, took on the restoration of their great grandmother's home only to uncover secrets from her past. Warm, funny and with endearing characters, this is an absolutely delightful read.

Coming Home to Holly Close Farm by Julie Houston is an absolutely delightful book that I really didn't want to put down.

Initially, it was quite confusing with daughters, mum, grannies, a great granny and a couple of cousins, but once you got your head around the family tree it was a fabulous read.

Charlie returns home to Yorkshire after losing her job and boyfriend. Her sister Daisy has also lost her job. The two sisters try to put their lives back together whilst visiting their great granny who tells of family secrets and of her great love during the war.

It is so incredibly romantic and obviously well researched with regards to the war and attitudes back then. It was wonderful to see the word scullery (kitchen) reminding me of my own nan. I love how reading can stir up your own memories. There are a few funny bits too.

Really enjoyable read featuring the lives (and past) of three generations of women in the same family.

The village location was perfect and made me want to move there.

Looking forward to catching up with the author's other books.

A fabulous book that has a story within a story. Three generations of women from one family, brought back together due to circumstances out of their control. Past and present lives join together to make this a memorable book. You will be laughing and crying throughout the book. Definitely one I would recommend reading.

This was an entertaining read about a young woman, Charlie, whose relationship with her married boss and her job, come to a screeching halt when his wife figures things out. Charlie leaves London and goes home to her family, in the countryside of Westenbury. Her family is an interesting group who help her to heal and start over locally in her work as an architect. There is romance, history and some laughs as Charlie moves on from her heartbreak. I really enjoyed reading this as it was a well written story which kept me coming back to it. Strongly recommend.

I was lucky enough to read A Village Affair by Julie Houston last year as part of the blog tour, so was very excited when she emailed me about her latest novel Coming Home to Holly Close Farm. I am very pleased to say that I was not disappointed!

Charlie Maddison unexpectedly finds herself leaving London, boyfriendless, homeless and jobless. Heartbroken, and desperately unhappy to be back in her small village she finds herself in the midst of family secrets that had remained hidden for sixty years.

I do not want to give away anything more about this story than I have to - whilst it is not technically a dual timeline novel, there is a second story that is told via memories. As you will by now be well aware if you are a regular reader of mine, I love anything set during World War II, and so I was particularly pleased to discover these memories were set during this time period.

This novel had me hooked. I really enjoyed A Village Affair, but I loved Coming Home to Holly Close Farm. I wanted to read more, both about Charlie and Daisy, but also about Madge, James and Arthur. This was a fabulous novel about heartbreak, love but most of all about family. I cannot recommend this novel enough - grab a copy and let me know what you think!

The story of Charlie and her sister Daisy, both back home with their parents after things went wrong in their lives. The story is interspersed with Madge's story, looking back to her time in the war when she was in her early 20's.

An emotional read, with characters that keep you interested.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a voluntary and honest review.

This is a beautifully woven story. As Charlie and Daisy work to restore the lovely old farmhouse, Madge’s wartime story is revealed to us. We flick back and forth between the present and the past.

The characters are wonderfully drawn in this book. Some books take a while for you to get to know, and warm to, the characters. Not so with this book. I was immediately drawn in, and felt as if I had known the characters for ages. I particularly loved Madge.

The setting is gorgeous, and it was lovely to be back in Westenbury, the setting for previous novels.

A book with warmth, humour, love and intrigue, it’s almost impossible to put down. Thoroughly enjoyable.

When sisters Charlie and Daisy return home to London, each retreating for their own personal reasons, they are encouraged to take on a family restoration project and uncover a secret their grandmother Madge, buried deep in the past. The discovery leads Madge to unravel her past, and we travel with them to sixty years ago when Madge was a young woman.

The swapping between the story timelines kept me engaged and eager to continue. I enjoyed getting to know Charlie, Daisy – all the genuine characters, but Madge – she was a real treat.

Julie Houston delivers a heartfelt story that gladdens the heart with humor and grace, and inspires the hope that stirs the heart.

I heartfully recommend Coming Home to Holly Close Farm.

Thank you to NetGalley and Aria for the read of Julie Houston’s, Coming Home to Holly Close Farm.

Leider zuviele Zeitebenen, Charaktere und Geschichten. Man findet sich bei diesem Aufbau schlecht zurecht. Etwas mehr Struktur und Anhaltspunkte wären hilfreich gewesen.

Heart warming, endearing and a real laugh out loud read that will give you all the feels!

Love the storyline - it really is beautifully written. A tale of family and secrets, supporting each other and over all - love.

Some fantastic characters that you will grow to adore. I think they’re very typical of the authors style.

I would recommend to all.

This book was a nice easy read. I love how the story unfolds combining the past with the present day. I wish there was an epilogue of Holly Close Farm so we know what’s going on a few years down the road, otherwise it’s a good read

Coming Home To Holly Close Farm is a dual timeline romance. It features Charlie, a young woman spurned by her deceitful lover, and Madge, Charlie’s charming great-grandmother.

Charlie fled back to her childhood home in Yorkshire after a failed romance. While retrieving a coat for Madge, Charlie discovers an old photograph and a story that had been buried for more than sixty years unravels.

When nineteen-year-old Madge joined up during World War Two, London offered her escape from home and a boyfriend who wanted more than she did. On a night out Madge met James, who went on to be her one true love. But the war and James’s family were about to tear them apart.

Now aged ninety-four, Madge finds it’s time to reveal past secrets.

I really enjoyed Madge’s story. The way it was interspersed between Charlie’s modern-day tale was tantalising, as I was eager to get back to it each occasion the time-line changed. Madge’s family were a colourful mix of characters. I also enjoyed the humour surrounding the ‘Almost Heaven’ care home.

Ideal for those who enjoy a little mystery surrounding a sweet romance.

Having heard great things about author Julie Houston and her books, I was very eager to get my hands on this one. The Blurb promised relationships, family, and secrets.

The book started off well with Charlie bring thrown out by a woman who turned out to be the wife of her boyfriend. So with 5 bin bags of her belongings, she had to leave London and go back home.

Great grandmother Madge then shared with them about a secret property, and Charlie was made the supervisor of its renovation. In the entire process, the truth about Madge's past was soon revealed.

To begin with, I wasn't really blown away by the characters or their dialogues. They tried too hard to be quirky. The whole book neither felt addictive nor humorous as told in the title.

I loved great grandmother Madge, she was way too strong and her romance was more interesting than Charlie's. I enjoyed reading her parts than the rest of the book.

Overall a good read...
