When Dixie has to come back to this backwards town she thought she would never have to see it again after how they treated her, especially Beau Garrett the love of her life. Dixie just wants to get in and out right after the will is read she can go back to Dallas, but she brought her friend Scott along to make it easier.
Beau can’t believe who he is seeing can Dixie possibly be back after all these years? Dixie is avoiding him and he doesn’t know why after all she is the one who left with her mother never looking back or even contacting him or her father Vern.
Dixie and Beau are finding out in this story that things aren’t always as they seem and how to forgive. So many secrets are revealed but this story does wrap them up nicely and I really enjoyed it.

After five years of being separated, at long last, Dixie and Beau encounter each other again due to the death of Dixie’s father. Lies, deceit and complications had torn the two apart. Faced with the truth, they discover secrets and forgiveness. I’ve enjoyed reading June Faver’s Dark Horse Cowboy series and recommend this book.

This is the second book in the series that I have read and unfortunately it's also the second book in the series that I didn't care for. I think this is probably the end of the road for me with this series/author.

On the plus side, unlike the other book I actually finished this one. But I had similar issues. I didn't feel a strong connection to the characters. I wish the author spent more time on their history together or even how they both suffered when they were apart. I felt Beau was all too quick to jump back in with Dixie to really deal with this feelings on how she abandoned him. For Dixie, I felt she forgave her mother far too quickly.

My other major issue with this book is apparently the law enforcement for the town doesn't do anything and let's their citizens take the law into their own hands? I mean come on...a waitress questions girls without any preparation instead of using an interpreter service. A woman sets up a meeting with someone the police are looking for and even though there is an officer on site, they don't intervene until after Beau steps in? And the transporting of the girls to Mexico without a court order and proper paperwork signed giving the adults temporary guardianship of the girls. There were just far too many holes in the plot for me to believe the story.

This novel was ruined for me by how irritatingly dumb the heroine is. The background is that Dixie and Beau were teenage lovers who were planning to get married. She loved her father and the little town they lived in. Suddenly, her mother whisks her away to Dallas and tells her that her father is disgusted and doesn’t want to see her ever again. She is pregnant and her mother tells her that Beau doesn’t want anything to do with her and his family is disgusted. So Dixie never questions any of this and raises her little girl on her own. She never talked to her father or her boyfriend again until she receives news that her father was murdered and she inherited his ranch and feed store.

Beau still loves her and his family adores their little girl. Eventually, Dixie figures out that her mom lied to her. So she jumps from that stupidity to investigating the murder at her dad’s store even though it’s clear that something very suspicious is going on there. She jumps into danger without thinking, but then was standard procedure for her, apparently.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

Dixie Moore receives notification that her, father who lives in Langston, has been murdered. She has not seen her father in many years since her mother said that he had asked them to leave. When she visits his lawyer to settle the estate, she finds out that her father left her his entire estate, as long as she resides in town for one year. If she does not, his friend Big Jim Garrett inherits. She does not want to return to her town as her young lover, Beau Garrett, still lives in town. She was told, by her mother, that Beau refused to marry her when she became pregnant during their senior year. Dixie returns immediately to Dallas, but a good friend encourages her to accept her father’s will for the sake of her five-year old daughter Ava. Of course, Beau will see Ava and recognizer her as his daughter. How could Dixie have left him without a word about their baby? He loved her then and loves her still. Events will unfold with Dixie learning what really happened all those years ago. Now, no matter what danger she faces, she is determined to find out who murdered her father. When to Call a Cowboy by June Favor is the third book in the Dark Horse Cowboys series but can also be read as a stand-alone story. This is a contemporary romance with some suspense on the side. It is well written, with well-developed characters, and is an easy page turner. I loved the characters in the story and the storyline kept my interest. I enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.

This was a good second chance romance, I love seeing sweet hearts reunited and resolving the issues that drove them apart. I don’t know if I was Dixie, if I would have been so quick to forgive. There was multiple povs which I found a little distracting but still a good read.

2 1/2 star review.....

I have struggled at times with the Dark Horse Cowboys series, yet committed to continue it up till now. So, while I liked the characters well enough and the storyline wasn’t bad, I did feel there were holes in the plot and that “something’s missing” niggle remained with me throughout the book. And while this story was labelled suspense, it definitely was not. But overall that really didn’t bother me; ultimately it was the loose ends and my lack of enthusiasm to even finish that resulted in my disappointment. The best thing about When to Call a Cowboy was the cover.

This is a a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

This book was a second chance romance along with a mystery of who murdered Dixie's father. I guess the wrong person for the murder but still enjoyed the mystery part of it.

Poor Dixie thought that Beau and his family had turned their backs on her when she was pregnant but later realized that it was all her mother's lies. Kind of sad all the time that they missed having as a family and time that Dixie was never able to spend with her father. I think that she was too easy on her mother after she found out.

I did wish some things were explained in more detail - was the sheriff really that incompetent and not investigating the murder? How can he stay in office? Don't want to name the person and spoil secrests, but the one person who seemed so shifting but was not the murderer, why was he acting like that??

I enjoyed this series and was glad that we were able to see Beau's family throughout the book!

When to Call a Cowboy was another enjoyable story by June Faver. As it had mystery, a second chance romance, and likable characters. As well as lies and deceit and I would happily recommend it to others.

I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

When I saw that the book had been labeled in the “Suspense” genre, I was a little skeptical. It was not as suspenseful as I thought it would be and for that I was thankful. I enjoyed parts of this book but I felt that it had lots of loose ends and skipped around a lot.

This was an awesome book! I love contemporary cowboy stories and this one was done really well. The characters have a connection that is so genuine and is why you can’t help falling in love at the same time as they do. Not read many books by this author but will be reading more from this day on. Totally recommend

This is the third book in the Dark Horse Cowboys series but it can easily be read as a stand alone novel. I had no trouble following the story without having read about the other Garrett men finding their significant others. Although I did enjoy this book enough that I might just go back and read their stories. While the secret baby trope is very popular in romance novels, I didn't enjoy this twist on the part of the grandparents. The only negative I have of this book is that I thought the suspense element was a bit off. To me it felt like more of an afterthought that was too easily wrapped up. Honestly, I think the romance was a strong enough part of the story that the suspense element was not needed. But overall it was an enjoyable read.

Ugh, I just wanted to shake Dixie's mom. I have a mother just like this. A lot happens in, When to Call a Cowboy. It really made it hard to put the book down.

Not sure if it was the writing style, flow of the story or direction it was going but I could no longer find the drive to complete June Faver “When to Call a Cowboy”. It just lacked the little something something to really pull me in and unfortunately it fell flat. As much as I appreciate the ARC, sadly I have decided to drop the series.

June Faver is a new author for me. Apparently, Beau and Dixie’s story continues an existing series. They meet up again after Dixie’s father’s murder. Both are angry with the other about how their relationship ended while in high school, but it is clear to readers that there is a major misunderstanding there somewhere. Unfortunately for Dixie, all roads seem to lead to her conniving mother.

In addition to having a second chance at love storyline,, there is added suspense with they mystery regarding who killed Dixie’s father and why. My only complaint with the story is how quickly Beau and Dixie hooped back into bed together. It was clear that neither really trusted the other orunderstood what broke them apart, yet they jumped into bed together. That seemed very forced and unrealistic. Other than that, it was a fun romp of a story! I’m not quite sure that it warrants four stars, but three and a half seems about right.

This is great addition to the series. I have read all 3 of the books and I loved all of them. This is Beau and Dixie's story. They were both endearing characters. I loved catching up with the characters from the previous books. This book pulled me in from the first page. It had a seamless, suspenseful storyline that kept me turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. I can't wait to read the next book. I would definitely recommend this book and this series.

WHEN TO CALL A COWBOY by June Faber is a heartwarming story, with a bit of suspense! A second chance romance filled with miscommunication and deceit. A couple torn apart by lies and distance. Reunited after five years they discover what really happened. They try to solve a murder, a shooting and a child sex slave ring! Lots of action and danger in this story!
