I always enjoy Jill Mansell books, and her latest, Maybe This Time, is no exception.

London girl Mimi comes to the English Countryside to visit her dad and his husband, and soon finds herself enamored with the picturesque town and local dad Cal. While she harbors some fantasies, she soon learns Cal is happily married and returns to her life in London.

After a devastating event and four years, Mimi finds herself in need of a change and wonders if the countryside could be the life for her.

I don't want to give too much away regarding her circumstances, but I loved the way Mimi showed strength in adversity and made a new life for herself. I also loved the larger cast of characters and the charming descriptions of the locations.

I thought the writing was crisp and the book and romance, while predictable, was adorable and fun. I would definitely advise Jill Mansell for a summer beach read.

Thanks to NetGalley.com, the author and the publisher for my advanced copy.

Jill Mansell does it again. She has not ever written a book I dont like. I discovered her years ago and made sure to read every book she has written. She hasn't let me down yet! Her books just make me feel good!

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC copy of Maybe This Time. Jill Mansells stories are fun, witty, and have relatable female characters. This title refers to the influence of fate and timing that rule romantic relationships. Mimi has a career in PR and a father that lives in a charming, small English village. Her Dad has a partner as he is gay and Mimi wants him to feel accepted in this small hamlet. She visits from London and immerses herself in the village to coax her Dad to become involved in his area. They had moved to avoid some prejudice that had been harbored towards them because of being gay, The people here were wonderful, accepting and only cared about what kind of person you were. Many friends and relationships were formed and Mimi felt a part of it also. Then tragedy struck and her father and two others were killed in a car crash. Her very dear friend Lois was severely maimed. Her friend Cal’s wife was one of the other 2 killed. After a serious off failed relationships and serious betrayals Mimi moves from London to the village and lives with her fathers firmer partner. She realizes she has feelings for Cal and this sets off a chain of humorous events that takes place as she wrestles with her feelings.. it is sweet, poignant and just a very enjoyable read that leaves you feeling refreshed and uplifted, as if you too lived in their village.. Defunitely one to savor!

I have never read any of Jill Mansell's books, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, not true- I expected this Rom Com to be exactly like all the others I have recently read: meet/cute scene, boy/girl meet, fall in love, have a fight/disagreement/mistaken feelings and then break up for a bit. They realize their errors and get back together at the second to last page.

With this book I was pleasantly surprised. There is a meet/cute. And it does not continue in the way you expect it to.

There are a lot of characters in this book yet I felt that none were superfluous. Quite a few story lines and even a few plots you might wonder why they were added, however it all worked for me. I'm not going to spoil it but this was one of the best Rom Coms I have read recently, and I am very grateful for having the opportunity to give this one a chance .

Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for the eARC.
This was my first book by Jill Mansell and after all the stellar reviews I ended up a little disappointed. It's a sweet read, but somehow it didn't engage me the way I had hoped. Mimi is likeable, but irritated me too...she's so bubbly and enthusiastic, a bit over the top. It's obvious she's meant to be with Cal, but it takes sooo long! Goosebrook sounds wonderful, like a fairytale village and it's inhabitants almost too good to be true. Mimi's stint with the grumpy author in Majorca was, for me, the best part of the story and I liked her character there the best, she at last showed some backbone and strength.
There are some sad parts, especially in the beginning, but on the whole the atmosphere of the read is optimistic and feel good. I do understand why the author is so popular, but maybe my expectations were too high for more than 3 stars.

Oh Gosh! This was such a fun read! I felt like i knew what was going to happen all along - and when it finally did - it was like a happily ever after!
What i did like was the whole book could easily be made into a rom-com. It was screaming 'when harry met sally' or 'notting hill' or any of the awesome 1990's romantic movies which are classics now.
I liked Mimi and Cora and Cal and even Stacey.
This is a book you can take to the beach along with a margarita!

4.5 stars
I love Jill Mansell, I have read her previous books and to be honest I had high expectations. This book lived up to those expectations.
Like Jill's other books, Maybe this time has a few twists and turns that I could not predict, which I love.
From the very start I loved Mimi's and Cal's characters. Together and separately. Mimi's strong attitude, loyal and hard working. She has her goals and she knows what she wants. Cal is sweet, loving and is an amazing father. This book is so easy going and sweet!

Jill Mansell is an experienced writer of women's fiction. Her titles have been available in England for many years and a number of them have now been released in the U.S. As is true for her other novels, in this one we watch as the "course of true love" goes awry before coming to the desired and anticipated happy ending. Mansell creates characters both good and less good; the reader roots for the good ones. This story involves a betrayal, a car accident, loss, complications, small village life and romance. How can you go wrong if this is your kind of read?

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for another fun title by this author. The opinions are my own.

Well, it's hard to find fault with a Jill Mansell book and this was no exception. OK, it made it easy that she is my favourite author, but she delivered another gem. A cast of likeable characters, an early sudden life-changing event, a harridan of a mother-in-law and a devastating disfigurement. And I loved the fact there was an author in it and he was a grumpy old so and so! Bark worse than his bite for sure though. Look forward to the next one.

Brilliant plot, excellent main characters that you invest in. I read this book in one sitting and I would highly recommend it.

Mimi arrives in Goosebrook and tragedy happens. She finds that she can't be with the man she finds attractive because he is married, so she moves on and finds love isn't easy when she gets cheated on and then she gets a job abroad and acts as cupid for her boss. I liked this romantic tale and the other characters: Lois, Felix, Cora, C.J but I'd have liked to have got to know Paddy better! My only criticism was that I didn't understand why Mimi felt attracted to Cal. I didn't feel the chemistry on the page and think the energy actually lay with Paddy or even C.J! Cal was a bit too bland. A page turner and really feel good. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me review this book. I would recommend.

This was an enjoyable reading for me! It had romance, drama and many funny moments. I liked the side characters and their stories, they were a great addition to the book, but at the same time I wished there was more focus on the progression of the main romance plot, in my opinion it developed too slowly, I couldn't really feel the chemistry between the main characters and resolution is only reached too close to the end. In general, it was entertaining, I would recommend it, but I didn't feel the spark necessary for this to be a page-turner for me.

I couldn’t get through this novel because the heroine enthralled with the widower just made her seem silly and very different from the strong woman she is with cj

Synopsis: when Mimi first visits her father and his boyfriend in their beautiful new home in a quiet Cotswolds village she falls in love with both the village and its inhabitants, especially gorgeous Cal. But with a job in PR a quiet country village isn't exactly the right place to be. As time goes by Mimi visits regularly and her and Cal's lives continue to intersect but it seems it's just never the right time.

This was the perfect novel for me right now, I was really in need of something cheerful, bright and uplifting and Maybe This Time really hit the nail on the head. The characters were fantastic, easy to read about and engage with, I loved Mimi there was just something so refreshing and honest about her. The secondary characters were also great and I felt like everything I read about could really happen, there were zero tropes and it's refreshing to see that these days. The plot was fantastic, yes there was an element of tragedy but the beautiful writing, setting, plot and wonderful characters made this book uplifting and delightful in spite of it.

I wouldn't expect anything but the best from Jill Mansell who has been a firm favourite of mine for many years and will no doubt continue to be for years to come.

Every time I read a book by Jill Mansell, it makes me feel like I personally know all the characters. This was a lovely story tinged with a bit of sadness. I managed to read it in a day as I needed to know if everyone would have a happy ending. If you like an easy read that will keep your interest, you must read “Maybe This Time”

I thought this book was cute! I loved seeing Mimi go through the highs and the lows made it more realistic. The opening where she’s trying to save the sheep was very cute. I only wish she had realized where she was supposed to be sooner. A sequel with more on Cal and Cora and her father in law would be great. I would have loved to read more about Mimi and Cal afterwards. Overall a cute read!
