I haven’t read this author before and hadn’t realised that this story was part of a series. However I didn’t feel I lost too much with not reading the previous books. I did find myself intrigued by Flora and found the book which told her story and downloaded it once I finished this one.

This was a good story which totally drew me in. It shows that first impressions aren’t always right and sometimes the truth is far deeper buried. I was shocked as to who the culprit turned out to be because I honestly didn’t see it coming. I had formed my own opinions which were obviously totally wrong.

I look forward to reading more from the author.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.

If you find someone with a gun in her hand and a corpse close by the chances are you've got your perp without even trying, especially if she's done it before.  Life, especially in books, isn't that simple however, and proving something conclusively can lead you in all sorts of different directions as the Boston police are about to discover.

The beginning of this book in no way hints at what is to come. For Detective D.D. Warren what started as a hopefully open and shut case, especially as Christmas is just around the corner, proves to be anything but. Her recently appointed C.I. (confidential informant) Flora recognises the victim and suddenly everything changes.

I found this book to be compelling for the most part and although I got an inkling of what was going to happen it didn't spoil anything. This was because the strong characters solved things their own way and added far more to the solution than I was able to making it satisfying in every way.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a complex murder mystery which informs rather than baffles. There are previous books in this series I haven't read and the promise of future adventures I shall definitely be on the lookout for.

After reading the blurb I just had to read this book.

A woman accused of murder, not once but twice, could she really be as innocent as she claims?

This is a story that is filled with twists and turns and each plot twist is very cleverly weaved into the pages.

There were a couple of times where I thought I had it all figured out but the guessing continued until nearer the end when I had a ureka moment.

I'm marking it down a star because for me, the tale seemed to lose pace towards and the big reveal wasn't as explosive as I felt it could have been.

Over all a great murder mystery with some well rounded characters.

Another fantastic addition to Lisa Gardner’s collection. The plot was fantastically thought out along with the epic twist at the end. You honestly can’t fault this book anywhere. The level of research that had gone into making this an incredible story bleeds through the pages and you certainly learn a lot of things, that’s for sure!

The characters were all well thought out, I’m still not keen on D.D. Warren, I still think her attitude stink and her method of policing isn’t great but she makes for great reading. Love Evie, I felt sorry for her from the get go even though we don’t know what’s happened or why yet. She seems sweet and adorable. Flora is still a mystery for me; in my opinion of her, I mean. I liked her and I liked her smart and sassy behaviour but there was just something odd about her that I just can’t put my finger on. There were many characters in this story so it’s a little hard to keep up. Even by the end, I was struggling to remember who characters were.

This author’s writing style is exceptional and seem to progress with the more books she releases and I like that. You think they can’t get any better and all of a sudden they pull a whopper of a book out there back pockets and we’re soon gripped, hooked, enticed and emotionally attached to the story... more so than previous books.

Overall, this book deserves more than 5 stars but as we can only rate that much, then so be it. But I highly recommend reading this story! you’ll be gripped from the very beginning. The very first page. The very first word.

Exceptional!

I really enjoyed this book.

This book is a great thriller very well written and will have you hooked, the story is told from different POV's of 3 women who each are strong and you are just rooting for them. The characters are so well written that they come across like real everyday people and not fiction. kept me on the edge of my seat fast paced.

I will need to catch up on this series and read the books before. I really enjoyed this one.

I am ashamed to say I am new to the novels by Lisa Gardner. I mean, I have heard of her, but I have never read any of her novels. When I saw that NEVER TELL, her last novel, was on NetGalley, a story about a young woman accused of killing her husband after getting away with her father’s murder sixteen years earlier, I was really intrigued and I decided to give it a try and I am really happy I did.

The protagonists of this novel are three women, three strong-willed, smart, kick-ass women, who won’t stop until they find out the truth. The first one is Evie. She was the character that it was more difficult to read. Having spent all her life living in the shadow of her genius father, Evie is very introvert, at times, she seems naive, and she is clearly hiding something. When she was sixteen years old Evie “accidentally” shot and killed her father. Now, the police find her standing next to the body of her husband Connor, who’s been shot three times and she is the one holding a gun. She claims she didn’t kill him, but how many times you can get away with murder?

Investigating Connor’s death is detective D. D. Warren. She investigated the death of Evie’s father sixteen years earlier and she thinks it’s too much of a coincidence that another man in Evie’s life has been shot dead. However, as she dugs deeper into Connor’s life she starts to think that things are much more complicated than it seems, especially after Fiona Dane gets involved. This is the tenth novel featuring D. D. Warren. She is really good at her job, she follows the evidence, but she is not afraid to think outside the box. There are a few glimpses into her family life and I enjoyed reading about her energetic son and her vivacious dog

Fiona was kidnapped and abused when she was in college and now she is an activist and one of DD informant. She had met Connor before and his death forces her to revisit memories from her past. Her tale was particularly hard to read, but Fiona is the character I admired most for her determination and stubbornness.

The characters are realistic, well-developed and engaging, the plot is gripping, compelling, and full of twists, and the author addresses themes that make for a thought-provoking and sometimes disturbing read. I really liked the author’s writing style, clear and immersive, and I am definitely going to catch up and read all her previous novels which, I am sure, are as captivating as NEVER TELL.

Lisa Gardner confirms her position as the Queen of Thrillers with this latest stellar addition to the Sergeant DD Warren of Boston PD series, featuring the return of Flora Dane. Flora is a survivor, a vigilante, but suffering from PTSD after her harrowing experiences with the evil Jacob Ness, and no matter how hard she tries, the head space he continues to occupy ensures she is trapped and imprisoned by the past, despite Ness's death. Conrad Carter, a travelling window salesman has been shot 3 times, his computer has been shot 12 times. His pregnant wife, Evie, a school teacher, is arrested for his murder at the scene by police, with gunshot residue on her hands. DD Warren is now supposed to supervise her team of investigators, but her heart is in actively working cases, and she is drawn to the case, because years ago she was part of a team that looked into the accidental shooting of Evie's father, a famous mathematical genius, by a shocked 16 year old Evie. Was she wrong about Evie, surely this latest killing merits a revisit of the past?

Flora is an unpaid confidential informer for DD, she is watching the TV news when she sees a picture of Conrad Carter, to her horror she recognises him as a man connected to Ness, who she met in a bar as part of her traumatic history. DD does not know what to make of this, and whether it has any impact on her present investigation. Flora has stubbornly refused to speak of the past but the once with FBI therapist Samuel, she is now forced to revisit and relive the past, overtaken by guilt as she is confronted with the possibility that she was not the only victim of Ness, it looks increasingly likely that other women were too. Flora goes rogue as she hooks up with true crime enthusiast, the computer analyst Keith Edgar, and contacts FBI SSA Kimberly Quincy, the female agent responsible for tracking down Ness and freeing Flora. Quincy and the FBI have never got far with unearthing information about Ness and his criminally deviant past, with Flora opening up and the additional thread of Conrad to folow, Quincy arrives in Boston to join DD's team, despite initial resistance from DD. DD is overjoyed at getting stuck in a case that proves to be a twisted tangle of a strange mess that tests her mettle, with firebugs, the dark web and more, and where nothing is as it seems, where she is surrounded by, in her own words, by nutjobs with no respect for law enforcement.

The narrative is delivered from the perspective of Evie, Flora and DD, all incredible women in their own right. What I particularly loved was the development of Flora in whom at long last chinks of light and hope begin to open up as she faces her past by once again immersing herself in it and starts to talk about it. Evie is a fascinating creation, a woman with a dysfunctional family hell bent on keeping dark secrets, as indeed did her husband. DD has a chaotic and loving family with Alex, her 5 year old hyperactive son, Jack, and his dog, Kiko, whilst she chases the bad guys with enthusiastic gusto, its what she lives for. This is fantastic thriller, with all the exciting elements that guarantee that the reader will be enthralled, turning the pages as fast as possible to find out how it all ends. Gardner makes it clear that she is not finished with these characters which has me eagerly anticipating her next novel. Highly recommended! Many thanks to Random House Cornerstone.

Lisa Gardner just gets better and better, although you wouldn’t think it’s possible, well written with twists in the tails, so Evie what’s really happened, I don’t do spoilers so to find out you will have to buy the book. You will not regret buying this novel, it’s a brilliant, stings I. The tail, Lisa Gardener as really out shine herself with this book. I certainly lost sleep I couldn’t put it down, even if I could have I would not have because I was so totally gripped by this novel. I definitely recommend this book it’s a absolute Must Read. I am a fan of Lisa Gardner and this lives up to her previous novels. This is another in the series starring Sergeant DD Warren and her confidential informant Flora. This focuses on Evie who comes home to find her husband shot dead and is arrested shortly afterwards for his murder. DD is interested as this is the second time Evie has been involved in a shooting. You are then gripped as you follow these three women down the rabbit hole each trying to find their own answers. Its a great read.
Thanks to Century and NetGalley for an ARC.

Thank you to Netgalley, Lisa Gardner and Cornerstone for my ARC of Never Tell.
I love the detective DD Warren series so I was excited to get my teeth into a new one.
When Conrad Carter is shot 3 times in his home office and his wife is found holding the gun, the case seems cut and dry. Especially as DD knows the woman; Evie Carter from a case 16 years ago when the girl accidentally shot her father. But things get complicated when Flora Dane recognises Conrad's face on the news, she remembers meeting him one night while still with her captor and now she is intent on solving the murder herself.
At first when it came to Flora's chapter I was disappointed that she was back. I found Flora's character very annoying in the last book. But she was actually more bearable this time. Her side of the story actually made things more interesting as two mysteries ran parallel.
I can't say too much without giving spoilers but what I will say is that this was a fast paced and exciting crime thriller which kept me guessing until the very end.

Thrilling and tense. Not just one but three strong female characters. D.D, Flora and Evie all have very different personalities and motivations which mesh very well. Unpredictable and twisty, this might be the best Lisa Gardner yet and can be enjoyed even if you haven't read previous books involving D.D and Flora before. It combines high suspense with a compelling picture of different female relationships including various takes on that between a mother and a child. Thank you to Random House UK, Cornerstone and Netgalley for providing me with this free and very enjoyable ARC.

This was such an amazing book. I love the developing relationship between DD and Flora and this story took that to a new level. It was so good to see characters from previous books and handled so well as it never felt like there were too many characters. This series is brilliant and i hope there's another one.
