A lovely story and one I would definitely recommend reading. The world-building is fantastic and I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

Reagan Lunasa had gone between the human and fairy world of Avalon and is determined to help her true love, the prince of Avalon. There is still doubt about their bond because of her humanity, as well as the risk of other fairies actually working for Connor to help him keep the throne. It's going to be a question of war, and she's determined to help.

Ascension is the third book in the Avalon series, and I hadn't read the first two books. This put me at a serious disadvantage when it started, because I had no idea who anyone was, or how it would relate to the prologue of Connor entering training to be a warrior and resenting everyone around him. Admittedly, I was drawn to this by the cover art, which is gorgeous. The summary sounded really intriguing, but I was definitely at a loss for the beginning of the book. I had no idea what they were referring to, though a lot of the book followed common tropes so I could follow along with the plot.

I don't feel very connected to any of the characters, even allowing for the fact that I hadn't read the first two books. Characters say how close they are and how much they trust each other, and a few chapters later it's as if all of that growth is gone and we're back to the beginning. A lot of time is spent lamenting over the bonds between two sets of characters, as they hadn't been fully realized yet, and it feels as though it's a plot device that is relied on too heavily. We have a literal deus ex machina to solve the problem of Reagan and Killian getting together, which at the same causes further problems because of misunderstandings and jealousy. I hate that particular trope, because if characters just talked to each other about their problems, a lot of this misery could have been avoided. I don't find it amusing or realistic in any way, and it further soured my perception of the characters involved. To top it off, there are lingering questions that are never answered, and the epilogue feels tacked on to me.

This book is probably going to be more enjoyable for those that adored the first two books. As much as I really wanted to like this, I just couldn't.

Disclaimer: I have not read book #1 or #2 in this series.

After encountering a fairy in the human world Reagan Lunasa learned to love again - I adore fairy novels, but this one cannot be read as a standalone novel. Despite this, the world-building within this novel is developmental, and whimsical, suited to the fairy ideal. Despite the disjointedness of the dialogue, the character and plot-development was seamless. Some work could be found in the adjustment of random sentences, and seemingly unless phrasings.

I will possibly go back and read the other two books - I did enjoy this one some - and if it continues I will read on.

Well.... I liked it. The world building is great and loved the characters.
BUT I had no idea it was the 3rd book in a series....it definitely is NOT a stand alone..... :(
it would have been nice if it had said that in the title.... but oh well.

This is the third in the series and not a stand alone novel. I wasn't lost, but I wasn't invested either. I won't be continuing with this series.

This is the third book of the Avalon series. I did not know it was part of a trilogy when I started it and it really isn’t a stand alone in my opinion. Also, in the afterward, the author hinted that this story may not be over and there are some unfinished threads to follow. I didn’t read the first two books and probably won’t since I’ve read this but I did like the story so if it continues I’ll probably read the next. They world building is great and the characters are believable and likable. My only complaint with this book is that the dialogue at times was a little disjointed and strange. Characters say things seemingly for no reason and then there is no follow up. Other than that complaint, I liked this story and would consider reading more from this author. I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I received this novel from Net Galley and the publisher.
This is the third book in the Killian series by EA Weston and is a fantasy story with fae and epic battles. Having read the previous two books and enjoying them as a fun read, I was super excited when this book came onto Net Galley to read. It continues with Reagan finding Aurelia. Killian's sister and shows them working their way back to the fae lands to assist Killian in defeating the evil Connor.
The "big reveal" of this book wasn't really that surprising to me since I sort of guessed it from the first book, What I was most looking forward to was Killian and Reagan's reunion since they were torn apart in Treachery and that was a beautiful moment, as was Killian's reunion with his sister, who he thought was dead with the rest of his family.
Overall I thought this book was a good ending to a good series. It was an enjoyable read for when I was bored and is well written and flows smoothly. Not a favorite, but still a good book and series.

This is the third novel in the series and you need to read the first two to understand the plot.
