This is the second in a series about troubled middle grade kids, written in a quick and easy to digest manner. Not all kids are in love with reading and this series is a good suggested reading for those kids, in my opinion. I like how the characters seem real, though the adults are on the clueless side and it takes the kids to speak up for the adults to realize that the kids are struggling.

But that is realistic and children need to know that speaking up is important, or others will just make assumptions about them and not realize the truth.

So kudos to the author for focusing on the "bad" kids and making them the hero of their own story. They have the agency to make their situation better. It's not an easy thing to do and it doesn't make the characters' lives perfect when they do speak up, but it does help.

This is a terrific quick read about Landon is a struggling learner, a low reader and he really gets confused at math.
When he fails, he decides that he cannot let his mother know as she is always troubled about how others view her family. He decides, therefore, to take matters into his own hands.
This book is a great choice for reluctant or struggling readers as it is short, a fun read and has a few amusing drawings throughout the story.

I am reviewing a copy of Things That Don’t Make Sense through West 44 Books and Netgalley:

Landon has an F in life. He refuses to do his homework, he won’t take tests, and he won’t look at the chalkboard during class. Landon’s parents and teachers think it’s because he is not trying. He is hiding a secret though nothing makes sense to him.

Landon struggles to read, he can’t wrap his mind around math and he has trouble focusing.

The formatting on Things That Don’t Make Sense made it difficult to read therefore I give this book four out of five stars.

Middle-grade fiction that should be read by every student. ‘Things That Don’t Make Sense” shares about the difficulties some students with learning disabilities face.

Landon failed all his classes except art and gym, maths doesn’t make sense and he wants to be a game developer. He tried but he just can’t understand it whereas everyone else doesn’t understand him.

“Things That Don’t Make Sense” touches on the topic of bullying, parents setting high expectations on their children and the fear of not being able to explain yourself and what you’re going through.

Although it is a short book (less than 100 pages), it would have been better if there was more on the characters and how they helped one another. I felt it was a bit too fast paced but it was able to show that no matter how difficult life may be, every thing will always work out.
