This book took a wild turn that I definitely didn’t see coming from reading the description. About 3/4 of the way through I started to figure out where it was going. And wow! Who was expecting that?? I thought it was a good book but the ending kind of threw me off. It wasn’t what I was expecting or hoping, but it was still a good book!

She showed up at Tony and Laura's home. A young woman with amnesia. For lack of a better name Tony calls her Jemma with a "J". The odd thing is the young woman that has never been in their home, knows the exact layout of it. Has she been there before and forgotten?
No one knows that this woman is not who or what she portrays to be. She has ulterior motives.
Entertainment as it's best. An enjoyable psychological thriller. Tantalizing! Recommended!

What a journey! Deception, memory lost and mystery make for a great book.

Jemma- a lost woman who showed up to a house claiming it was her and yet she doesn't even know her name.

Tony & Laura - a couple of strangers that were willing to help.

Luke - a detective trying to solve the case of who is Jemma and in the mean while looking for his own lost daughter.

This story was nothing like I was expected from a thriller/mystery. Characters were solid and well developed. The style of writing was easy to follow and flow very well. I don't like Laura character too much, but I guess it is true to human nature to hide or subconsciously hide from the truth. She really got on my nerves. I would recommend anyone who loves thriller to pick up this book.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this fabulous ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book confused me with so many characters and their "history" . I think I would have enjoyed it more if there had been fewer characters

Simply astonishing story, full of secrets and lies which lead the reader on a merry dance right up to the last page. I loved it and read it in one day.

This is a thriller with twists, turns, red herrings that has its own scary, creepy factor. The reason I didn't give it a 5 i there is so much going on it is easy to get lost. The first chapter had me raising an eyebrow, questioning the validity of it all. Then I reminded myself, I am reading a thriller, a story, a novel, from an authors imagination and I was o.k. Come along with "Jemma" on this creepy, hair raising, twisted, mind blowing ride as she trys to remember who she is. You will be surprised when you pull into the station.

When an couple finds a young woman on their doorstep that insists they are in her home, they are left quite puzzled. She knows every little detail about their home, and can describe the layout perfectly, but when it comes to her own name she is completely clueless. The couple is certain that she is suffering from amnesia, and given the late hour, they decide to take her in for the night and contact the police, hoping they can help sort things out in the morning.

But when they meet with the police the next day the answers don't come as easily as they all hoped, and the woman's identity remains a mystery. But the answers will come soon enough... someone is keeping secrets, and they are all about to come to light!

The Last Thing She Remembers is a mind-twisting tale that will have you second guessing yourself at every turn. Each page is layered with drama, mystery, deceit, and action to keep you engaged and on your toes. This was a new venture for me, as I have not read anything from this author up and until now, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. Just when I thought I had a handle on things, the story line would take a sharp turn, and I was left surprised all over again. I really enjoyed this one, it was dark and twisty psychological thriller that kept me captivated from start to finish!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

4.5 stars! This is the first book I’ve read by J.S. Monroe, and I was really impressed with just how complex the story was and how interconnected all of the characters were.

A woman with no memory of who she is turns up at Tony and Laura’s house, claiming they are living in her home. While they are sympathetic to her situation and want to help her, they soon find out there is more to her story than they bargained for. Rumors fly around the village and suddenly this mystery woman is presumed to be a murderer whose whereabouts were previously unknown. As the story progresses and more secrets are revealed, the reader continues to be pulled in different directions until the very end.

I often try to predict how books will pan out, but not once was I able to predict the outcome from one scene to the next. I thought it was very creative, and I really liked how the author wove the seahorse/hippocampus motif into the story. It was something so unique that really set this work apart from other psychological thrillers out there.

Overall, it was a great book and I highly recommend it!

The subject of amnesia is very fascinating and can be a great subject for story telling. However I found the writing of this novel disjointed and lacked a natural ebb and flow. And I found it difficult to keep up with the characters and their backstory. I personally was not invested in the main character as we had to have a suspension of disbelief from the beginning - and I just could not get there. Thank you NetGalley and the author for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

My first J.S. Monroe book and all I can say is WOW!!!!!!!! Just when you think you've got it figured out...... NOPE!!!!!!!! Thought I had it figured out a few times but I was wrong. This mysterious woman shows up on a young married couples doorstep claiming she lives in their house but she doesn't remember anything other than a strong impulse to go to their house. The husband is a little eager to help this young woman. Even bordering on the lines of being very attracted to her. Who is this mystery woman and what is her story?????? Read it to find out!!!!!!!!!!! I will highly recommend this book to everyone I know. Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin for the oppurtunity to read this book for my honest review.

Interesting read. I enjoyed the theme of amnesia and memory loss. Good twists along the way. I enjoyed the different perspectives that were introduced throughout the book. I certainly didn't predict the direction in which the book took and I learnt things that I had not known before e.g. about seahorses so thanks to the author for that. (helpful pub quiz information right there!)

Twisty and clever psychological thriller based on a woman who in the beginning thinks she is coming home but soon realizes she is not at her own home but someone else's and she does not even know her own name or where she lives or who she really is. The couple who live in the home feel sorry for her and try to help her by letting her sleep there and take her to their GP the next day. The story really picks up as other people think they recognize her and there is a HUGE plot twist towards the middle of the book that I was totally not expecting--a little confusing but worth sticking it out. Well-written, interesting characters and an intriguing story-line that kept me reading! Definitely worth reading!!

This was a fast and fun book to read. The protagonist has amnesia, so for every real clue, you get a bunch of red herrings- both for her and for us. It was interesting how the story unfolded, especially the amnesia bit. All in all, a twisty, fun story with the added bonus of learning a lot about seahorses, memory, and the fascinating connection between the two.

I was engrossed at the beginning but then got lost in the many characters and story lines...I felt there should have been fewer characters and the story moved along...by the end I was tired of the drama and we knew for a long time what the end would be!

Ok, first off I'll tell you what bothered me so much about this book. The author created a safety net around the main character and just when you think everyone is against her and the world is caving in on her, the book takes a sharp turn and the safety net becomes the most dangerous thing for the main character to be around. Without giving too much away, this book gave me the most uneasy feeling while reading it that I wanted the main character to just run away and never come back. The beginning of the story starts with a woman who cannot remember her own name. She turns up on the front step of Tony and Laura's house claiming that their house is really her house. They take her in to help her. The story is told over a few weeks, however, it feels like months. It is not until the very end that the reader is given information about the main character that makes the whole story make sense. The book was good but there were a lot of parts that could have been taken out to move the plot forward faster.

Thank you to Netgalley, J.S. Monroe, and Park Row Books for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Review THE LAST THING SHE REMEMBERS by J S Monroe and reviewing for Netgalley. I am usually a very quick reader but it took me forever to get through this overly lengthy book. It was well written but I felt as if I were reading two different books with the same characters. At times very unbelievable and overly descriptive to a huge fault. Just not for me. ⭐⭐Two stars.

J.S. Monroe may have overshot the mark with this narrative. While the character development was well thought out and executed, the plot and secondary plot lines were overly complex and eccentric. The reader was given little to no foreshadowing prior to some quite outlandish revelations before the story quickly diverted to the next storyline. It was as if there were a myriad of ideas the author wanted to put to paper but not enough time to execute them correctly. Unfortunately, the work felt rushed and unfinished. 1 star.
