This book was darker, twistier, steamier, and more disturbing... hands-down my favorite book from this author thus far!

Absolutely brilliant!! Rebecca and Nicole were best friends. Lindsay takes her own life. Following the funeral Rebecca moves into Nicole's home, not just her home though, she takes over her life, literally!
But all is not what it seems with Nicole's husband and step daughter Olivia!!
Read on and be prepared to be shocked!!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this arc.

Took me a while to really get into this story, but once I finally twigged what may be going on, I was hooked. Admittedly had I read the blurb at all it may have helped!

Richard appears to be rather unlucky with wives, given he has now been widowed twice.

When Nicola dies, her best friend who lives in France comes to finally meet Richard and tries to work out just what happened in the last few months of her friend's life.

We get chapters from the present and we also see Nicola's relationship with Richard and daughter Olive develop in alternating chapters.

Even what I initially thinking was so far removed from the truth.

I can't say I particularly loved any of the characters, apart from Bouncer, but it was story that grew into itself and finished strongly.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Well this book had all the right ingredients to make a suspenseful read but it wasn’t quite plausible.

Nicole meets and marries her too good to be true husband Richard. He just gets her. They are so compatible he really is her ideal mate. Cue daughter. Woah she’s a handful. Always around at the most I opportune time and why does she lie so much? To the point where Richard really has to take his daughter Olivia’s side. Nicole doesn’t know what to think. What happened to her Mr. Wonderful. Thank goodness she can text and email her best friend Rebecca!

Nicole dies! Suicide. It’s just awful. Everyone is grieving. Rebecca comes to her friends funeral of course. Check out the situation that had Nicole so upset as to kill herself. Things appear normal nothing shady to be seen here. A dog that Richard is a handsome man. Nicole would understand if Rebecca fell for him too. Wouldn’t she?

Is it really as wonderful as it all appears?

Like I said earlier all the ingredients for the story are there but get predictable and jumbled. Still it was a satisfying read for the most part.

Oh my! Absolutely loved this. It’s got everything. Keeps you guessing. Is Rebecca going mad? Is she right to be scared?
5/5 on goodreads

Breath-takingly brilliant as we have become to expect from the amazingly talented Sheryl Browne.

This is an author who has the ability to ensure that once you begin reading you will be held captive in the fast moving plot until the final page. This is an unusual story with many twists which had me completely gripped.

Sheryl Browne has a remarkable talent for twisting the story whilst keeping it completely believeable.  I experienced a wide range of emotions whilst reading.  Absolutely brilliant Sheryl... can't wait for your next release!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Second Wife was a quick and predictable psychological thriller to me. I found it very easy to read...this would be perfect for vacation on the beach. Even though I had all but one of the twists figured out early, it didn't hinder my enjoyment of this book. I think that most people would enjoy this novel and it would easily transition into a major motion picture.

I will look forward to future work by this author and I would recommend The Second Wife to fans of Domestic Noir such as The Couple on Cedar Close or The Wife Between Us.

📖I received an uncorrected advanced review copy from Netgalley, Sheryl Browne and Bookouture in exchange for my honest opinion📚

The Second Wife – Sheryl Browne

Wow what a book! I thoroughly enjoyed it. It grabbed me from the onset and I ended up having a rather late night after quite a few ‘just one more chapters’. The author tells us of human relationships of love, betrayal and friendship and how the lines can be blurred. She shows us how even our closest friends can deceive us

Nicole and Rebecca were long time best friends who more recently stayed in contact via emails and texts. A year after leaving her abusive first husband Nicole meets super suave Richard and his daughter Olivia. Following a whirlwind romance she sells her home, marries Richard and buys a new home and its not long before Olivia moves in with them. Olivia appears to be a mistress manipulator and soon begins to cause chaos.

Three years since they last saw each other Rebecca receives a call telling her that her best friend has taken her own life. Richard tries but fails to save her life by pulling her from the water. Rebecca knew that suicide wasn’t something that her friend would do and swears that she is going to find out what happened to her. Subsequently she finds herself becoming more and more embroiled in their lives.

I really don’t want to say too much more it would be too easy to let spoilers slip. I would just suggest that if you like a page swiping psychological thriller give this one a whirl.

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review.

In the psychological suspense novel, The Second Wife by Sheryl Browne, Rebecca and Nicole swore to be best friends. They moved away from each other but stayed in touch as many of us do today - by text and email. They, however, unlike most of us, remain close.
Rebecca receives news from Nicole's devoted and loving husband, Richard, letting her know Nicole is dead. She killed herself by drowning. Rebecca is shocked and tries to understand why Nicole would do such a thing. She moves into Nicole's home and gradually takes over Nicole's life.

Sheryl Browne takes the reader on a roller coaster of emotions with a story filled with love, marriage, family, secrets, betrayal, lies, deceit, intrigue, twists and turns, but, most importantly, friendship. Rebecca is determined to find out how her friend that was so full of life could commit suicide.

The story is told from multiple points of view and uses flashbacks to help the reader better understand the characters and their actions. This cleverly, well-written novel is a fast read because you will not want to put it down.

This is the fist book by Sheryl Browne I have read but it will not be the last.

Where to start?
You think you know your bestie? Well think again.
Nicole takes her life and Rebecca needs answers.
After the tragic news Rebecca meets Nicole's husband Richard and suddenly finds herself not only moving into Nicole's house, but moving onto her husband.
The book moves between the past and present. Taking the viewpoint from four main characters. With each chapter you'll think you found another piece to clue together what happened. How a few unhappy emails and texts can lead to a suicide. You think you'll have it, it seems to make sense but the ending will have you questioning why you didn't see it coming.
You owe it to yourself to pick this up. It will hook you, drag you through the motions and leave you hungover.
Friendship, love, lies, betrayal, family and deceit - you need this book.

I very much enjoyed this suspense-filled story. Well written and fast paced. I liked this well enough that I went and downloaded a couple more books by this author. Thank you publisher and netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I quite enjoyed this one. I found that it read really easily, built tension rather well, and the story was interesting and entertaining. Not unique per se, but handled well enough that it managed to hold its own. I would definitely be interested in checking out more of Browne's work.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book, The Second Wife by Sheryl Browne. It was a faced-paced back and forth thriller that kept you guessing until the very end. You feel for Nicole and wonder what went wrong, until you find out! You can tell from the start something just isn't right with the father-daughter relationship that Olivia and Richard have. But it isn't until Rebecca comes along that it all starts making sense. Olivia and Richard were hard characters to like. However, this book was a very easy read to get lost in. I will definitely be looking for more of Sheryl Browne's work and will be recommending this to my other book-loving friends! Special thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest opinion!

*Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I have read two previous publications of Browne's, 'The Affair' and 'The Baby-Sitter,' both of which I enjoyed immensely. 'The Second Wife', whilst an engaging read, did grab me quite as much. The novel switches between perspectives and timeframes, which can make it a little hard to follow at times. The book focusses on two women, best friends Rebecca and Nicole and jumps between both of their relationships with the same man, devoted father of Olivia, Richard. However, as one expects in novels of this genre, all is not as it seems and everyone has more than a few skeletons hiding in the closet. At times, quite a dark, twisted tale as the truth about all of their pasts comes to light.

This book was gripping and I didn't want to put it down. Nicole should have trusted the neighbor's opinions and looked deeper before getting involved with Richard.

NEVER expected that twist! Dang that was a fabulous book. Not that I am surprised…at. all. “The Babysitter” was amazing so I definitely had high expectations for “The Second Wife”.
Sheryl Browne has a great talent for character development (especially the psycho kind). She includes just the right amount of normalcy to make the reader believe they could easily picture themselves in the same situation. Nicole… perfect example. A previously abused woman who finally finds a good man to start over with…Nicole feels just the right amount of fear as she embarks on her new relationship journey and slowly learns to feel safe. Or does she…
Or…
Is Nicole unable to get past the mind games her abusive ex subjected her to? Is she losing the plot? Her letters back and forth to her best friend Rebecca suggest there’s trouble in paradise. As Sheryl Browne flashes back from the previous year told from Nicole’s perspective to the present told from Rebecca’s perspective, you’ll gradually learn the real story behind… everybody’s story! Everyone seems to have a secret in this story. Richard, his daughter Olivia, Nicole, Rebecca… who’s crazy, who’s innocent, who’s unsuspecting, and most importantly, who is DEAD?
The twist revealing the true personalities in this book will throw you for a loop! You will definitely ask yourself, “what the hell just happened”! You may even need to reread parts to make sure your mind isn’t playing tricks on you. It isn’t btw… it’s just the crazy and talented mind of a very creative (yet slightly disturbed…lol jk Sheryl, we love ya) author who loves to write a plot that has you flipping pages furiously!

Sheryl Browne has written another fantastic book. The characters are realistic and relatable. I like books that give you so much you can almost see the movie playing in your head as you read. This was that kind of book.
I was gripped from the first page and was reluctant to put it down so I could actually get some sleep.
Told from the point of view of the different characters it gave you an insight into what they were all thinking at different times.
There are enough twists and turns to keep you hooked and wanting to know more.
If you love psychological thrillers then this book is a definite must read.
