I was instantly hooked from the first page. Two couples, shell and colin, Joanna and Ben are at a couples therapy resort in hopes of either saving their marriage or being able to say they did everything before finally ending their marriage. They end up getting alot more then what they signed up for. This is not just your average couples therapy resort. Celebrity couple Miles and Grace Markell have other plans. This book is filled with twist after twist. It starts off with an interview and at first you think you know who it is but the further you read the more you start to question it. The more secrets that come out the harder it is to put the book down !!

Thank you netgalley and Simon Schuster canada for allowing me to read and review early.

This one wasn't for me. The characters were a bit too strange for my liking, and the mystery aspect didn't appeal to me as much as I expected. However, I could definitely see a lot of people love this one!

I’ve never read any books by Marissa Stapley before so wasn’t sure what to expect. This was a great book with lots of plot twists, and I couldn’t put it down. I’ll definitely read this author’s books again.. Thanks Net Galley for providing me with a review copy!

The last resort kept me guessing. It is a very-well written suspense. We follow three couples, one being the therapists and the other two, couples who need help with their marriage. They all have secrets and we discover them little by little. The story is written in a way that you learn facts in each chapter or day, should I say. I highly recommend this book. You won’t want to put it down.

I have put Mrs Stapley previous books on my reading list for my vacations. Looking forward to discover more of her stories.

Great story. I loved the tension and the fear as everything unraveled and you weren't sure what the outcome would be. Demonstrates how easy it is to just follow along with that you are told. Thinking for yourself is paramount if you don't want to be stuck in a miserable situation

This is a great beach read. The author immediately pulls you into the story right from the start. With crafty characters and hidden motives this book will keep you hooked. Is it one of those twisty, didn’t-see-it-coming novels? No, it’s pretty predictable, but it is an enjoyable read that keeps it interesting.

I quite enjoyed this book, but it was reminiscent of "Nine Perfect Strangers" by Liane Moriarty in that it's about a group of couples secluded at a resort, there's a cult-like atmosphere, strict rules with luggage searches, and leaders who aren't what they seem. Having said that, it was well written and certainly kept my interest enough that I binged through this book in 2 days. I definitely recommend "The Last Resort"! Thank you Simon & Schuster Canada for providing me with an advance reader copy!

The Last Resort by Marissa Stapley is a thriller that delves much deeper into the individual psyches of the principal players than is typical of the genre. This is an exploration of marriage at its core, with plenty of unexpected twists thrown in along the way. I was drawn in by the beautiful cover photo, but stayed for the addictive storytelling. This one is a roller coaster in the best possible sense.

Drs Miles and Grace Markell are married therapists of some repute, who offer an intensive two week couples retreat in the beautifu Mayan Riviera. Partaking in the course of therapy are Johanna and Ben, and Shell and Colin, each couple participating as a last resort to saving their troubled marriage. It soon becomes evident, however, that all is not harmonious at the ironically named Harmony Retreat. When a hurricane of biblical proportions hits the resort, and Miles goes missing, a fresh hell is unleashed on the already struggling couples. This is not what anyone has signed on for.

This was an exciting and well-executed novel that kept me fully engaged through the last page. I particularly appreciated the brief epilogue, and found the ending to be wholly satisfying.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for this ARC.

A special thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Drs. Miles and Grace Markell run the Harmony Resort where they help couples with their failing marriages. It is an opportunity for the couples to reconnect with the gorgeous Mayan Riviera as the backdrop.

Johanna and Ben seem to have a picture-perfect marriage, but they actually don't know each other at all. Shell and Colin constantly argue because Colin is a workaholic and Shell feels like she takes a back seat when it comes to his job, but that's a front for what has really torn them apart, it's actually too devastating to speak of.

Both couples begin the intensive therapy program and it quickly becomes apparent that that Miles and Grace Markell do not live up to their personas. They also appear to be hiding something.

As a deadly tropical storm descends on the coast, trapping the hosts and the guests on the resort, secrets are revealed, loyalties are tested, and no relationship or person will be unchanged.

I reviewed Things To Do When It's Raining, and found the story well-written, but a little rushed at the end (I wanted more). The Last Resort does not suffer this fate, it is appropriately paced with an interesting multiple point of view perspective. There is enough intrigue to keep the reader vested in the story and the premise and setting were also interesting. Stapley employs some interesting tactics to move the narrative along—TMZ news releases, a dialogue between "him" and "her", and alternating between past and present.

The book is clever, tense, and gripping. With themes of loss, love, and an exploration into relationships and what it takes to make them work, Stapley has really come into her own and I can't wait to read what she publishes next.
