This was another fun and sexy romp through this chemistry driven story. Ronnie acquires antiques for her employer and they have determined she needs to hire Jack Crews as a driver and bodyguard and she is not happy about it and she is just as determined he is not going to take the job. Especially since she has a strict policy to not mix work and pleasure and the night before she is to meet up with her new bodyguard she decides to get out and work off some frustration with the gorgeous man who walked into the bar. She is all set until he leans in and whispers in her ear, "My name is Jack Crews." The banter between these two kept the pages turning faster than my kindle could keep up at times. This was a smoking read and I thoroughly enjoyed it and didn't want it to end. There was an element of suspense to keep it cooking! I am really looking forward to Charlotte's book! Definitely recommend this one along with the first one in this series.

"Slow Ride" (Road to Love Book 2) by Lori Foster is a terrific read. This is a great follow up to "Driven to Distraction". I loved Jack and Ronnie's story. This is a fantastic addition to this series, packed with action, romance, passion, entertaining characters, humor, family, and more. I enjoyed getting to catch up with Brodie, Mary, Howler, Ros, and Charlotte. I'm anxious to read what happens next in the series in Charlotte's story! Highly recommend to all fans of romance, action, and series.

Slow Ride by Lori Foster
Road to Love #2

Mustang Transporters my be a bit tamer than the movie with Jason Statham in it but it is based on the idea of someone going to pick up and deliver items. In this book there are twins who collect rather unusual items for a collection they keep in their basement and Ronnie Ashford is their go-fer. When Ronnie meets trouble one day the twins decide she needs some muscle by her side so hire Jack Crews to be that muscle and driver on pickup and delivery. Ronnie is NOT thrilled with having a minder and for quite awhile tries to shake Jack off...but over time...that all changes and a romance brews. Throw in a bit of suspense with a bad guy out to add to his personal even MORE creepy collection and you have an interesting story with trust won, family defined, suspense and some hot romance. The next book in the series will be that of Charlotte and an a half brother of Jack and Brodie who comes to visit...or so says the end of this book.

Did I like this book? Yes
Do I want to read the next book in the series? Yes
Was this book significantly different from the first in the series? Very similar
What did I find charming? Well, Jack and Brodie but also Howler and Peanut...they almost stole the show!

Thank you to NetGalley, HQN and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Another great read in this new series by Lori Foster. I did see similarities to Mary and Ronnie on their backgrounds and how they both were alone and felt abandoned. Jack is the perfect match to Ronnie. He knows exactly how to get her to open up and show her love without her running away. It takes time but in the end it's all worth it. Both Mary and Ronnie have gained a great new family and the Crews family have gained some terrific women.

I love Lori Foster’s books; I always have. Slow Ride is no exception to my personal rule. I want books that have a little action, romance, humor, and good plots. Slow Ride gave me all of these and more!

Good second installment in the Road to Love series. This one is about Jack, brother to Driven to Distraction's Brodie. Jack is the face of their business, Mustang Transport Courier Service, as he presents a more refined persona than Brodie does. Where Brodie is blunt and occasionally on the raunchy side, Jack tends to be calm and polite to just about everyone. Both men are drop-dead gorgeous, protective, and bad-ass when they need to be.

Ronnie was in town to meet with the man her employers wanted to hire as her driver when she purchased items for their collections. She didn't want the help. Over the years Ronnie learned that the only person she could depend on was herself. She planned to offer him the job, but convince him not to take it. In the meantime, she wanted a distraction, and the sexy guy who walked into the bar was just what she was looking for.

The chemistry between Jack and Ronnie was combustible from the very beginning. Ronnie knew she wanted him as soon as she saw him, and Jack was right there with her. That first meeting was intense but also funny. Ronnie made her desire very clear and was in a rush to make it happen. Jack was just as attracted, but he was also somewhat amused by her intensity. He got a kick out of throwing a delay in the works by insisting on eating his meal first. But once he finished, he planned to enjoy himself. The sparks flew between them until he happened to mention his name, at which point Ronnie threw on the brakes. If they were going to work together, there would be no hanky-panky.

I loved the development of the relationship between Jack and Ronnie. Jack was determined to get her into his bed, but he also saw that he would have to get past her walls first. Spending so much time together to collect the items for her bosses gave them time to get to know each other and for Jack to show Ronnie that she could trust him. I loved his patience and his ability to put Ronnie at ease, making it easier for her to open up about herself. Her prickliness and independence fascinated Jack and no matter what she did to try to push him away, Jack would not budge. I loved how easily he saw past that façade to the woman underneath, and how much he liked her. Ronnie worked hard to keep Jack at an emotional distance, but his clear respect for her and her abilities went a long way toward getting past her walls. She also had some serious self-esteem issues making it difficult for her to believe that he truly wanted her just as she is. The chemistry between Ronnie and Jack was intense. I loved watching the tension between them build until they could no longer hold back. One of the best things was seeing the always- in-control-of-himself Jack lose it when he was with Ronnie. The connection between them went much deeper than either expected it to. Jack accepted it first and became intent on showing Ronnie that they belonged together. She was a tough nut to crack, intent as she was in protecting her heart from further pain. I loved their big moment at the end, as Ronnie finally believed that Jack's love wasn't going anywhere.

I liked the suspense in this story better than the previous one, as it seemed more intense. Some disturbing occurrences were what drove Ronnie's bosses to insist on her hiring Jack as a driver/bodyguard. Ronnie wasn't convinced that she was in real danger at first, but escalating events finally made her see reason. I loved Jack's protectiveness, and even Ronnie eventually had to admit that she felt safer with him. The occasional part told from the bad guy's point of view made the danger Ronnie was in practically ooze off the page. The final confrontation was truly frightening for both Ronnie and Jack. I loved Ronnie's presence of mind and her contribution to her rescue. I ached for Jack who was afraid that he would lose her. That confrontation had me on the edge of my seat until it was over.

The secondary characters are fantastic. Ronnie's bosses just seem weird at the beginning, and more interested in their odd acquisitions than in Ronnie's safety. But the more I saw of them, the more I liked them. It was also clear by the end that they cared for Ronnie and thought of her as family. As far as families go, Ronnie's was horrible. I hated the things that they did (and didn't do) to her. Jack's family, on the other hand, was wonderful. I loved their closeness and their support of each other. There was also a lot of teasing that went on, and it was fun to watch Ronnie's reactions when she was around them. I also adored the way that Jack's mom, plus Charlotte and Mary, mad Ronnie one of them so easily. The makeup session part was hysterical, and I loved seeing Jack and Brodie trip all over themselves trying to recover from stupid comments. I can't wait to read Charlotte's book. But my favorites had to be Howler and Peanut. I loved that mutt in the previous book, and he continued to make me smile and laugh in this one. Peanut was the kitten that Jack and Ronnie rescued and who wormed his way into both their hearts. I loved the parts of Howler and Peanut together and the image of that big dog taking care of a tiny kitten.

Slow Ride is book two in the Road to Love Series. Lori Foster never disappoints with the steamy love story mixed with humor.
Ronnie Ashford is used to taking care of herself and doing things on her own. She never doubts she can handle her job on her own but her bosses insist she has a partner. Jack Crews ends up being the one her bosses want her to work with. The chemistry between the two make working together more than either of them wanted or bargained for.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of the book for my honest opinion.

ABOUT:

You can’t put the brakes on love…

Ronnie Ashford needs a distraction. In the morning, she has to offer arrogant, conventional Jack Crews a job and convince him not to take it. She doesn’t need anyone’s help, thank you very much. But tonight is all about the tall, sexy stranger who just walked in the bar—and all the delicious trouble they could get into together. Too bad just as things are heating up between them, he whispers the three little words that destroy everything: “I’m Jack Crews.”

Jack is determined to connect with fiery Ronnie—in bed and out of it—but her terms are clear. If he takes the job, helping her acquire prized artifacts for her mysterious bosses, anything between them is strictly off-limits. Somehow he has to convince a woman who’s never felt like she belonged that she’s found her place—with him. And with the danger sparking hotter than the fire between them, it’s going to be one unforgettable trip…

REVIEW:

I loved the passion between these two main characters and really thought that Lori Foster did this book justice. She hasn't slowed down over the years with her characters and their development. Jack was a well-developed character that made me want to read more about him, made me want to get to know about his struggles, and his backstory, Ronnie was one of those characters that you just get...you fall in love with her as soon as you start to read. She makes you keep reading because she's sassy. She has a tendency to have a snappy comeback for every little thing and it's one of the things that keeps the book rolling along. I loved that about this book. There wasn't so much drama that you wanted to toss it to the side after several chapters. Alot of books nowadays think that the more drama the better and that just wasn't the case with this - it had just enough that it made everything come together and be totally believable. I loved this and would rate it as such!!

Jack and Ronnie burn up the road even with a Slow Ride...
Ronnie is independent to the core, but only because she believes she has to be based upon her past experiences. Jack immediately goes into protector mode. Even though he's more calm and reserved than his brother, he's still pretty alpha. Their meet cute was classic and contemporary. I had fun riding with them on their journey, and the suspense element was just enough to keep me guessing. Now, I cannot wait to see what happens with Charlotte!

Uhm, it was ok. I really like Lori Foster and her books but there was something missing. From the start of the book, it didn't make a lot of sense, when she was talking about "the deals" and "the goods" and that the business was "shady". I honestly thought she was talking about guns or drugs. It just seemed an incomplete start and I started to lose interest after that.

what i’m talking about:

Slow Ride is the second book in the Road to Love series by Lori Foster. We first met the hero, Jack in the first book, Driven to Distraction as he is the brother and business partner to the hero of that title. While I enjoyed Driven to Distraction I liked Slow Ride more.

The heroine this time around is Ronnie. She left home after finding out a big secret her mother had been keeping for years. Ronnie is a loner so when her employer wants to hire her a driver to help her pick up their purchases she is not happy about it.

Jack is the younger of Crews brother. He puts people at arm’s length as Ronnie does but for different reasons and with his over the top politeness.

Both Ronnie and Jack are new to wanting someone for more than a one night stand. Jack handles the attraction a little better than Ronnie. She is running scared but with Jack’s patience, he slowing gets under her skin and earns her trust. The pair work as equals in finding out who is putting them in danger.

I find the premise of Lori Foster’s Road to Love series interesting and fresh. So far the male leads have been the brothers who have a driving service, they have worked with the female leads who work with wealthy men to obtain rare and often odd collectibles. I think it will be interesting to see what the third book will bring. I believe the female lead will be Charlotte, the office manager for the Crews brothers. She is like a little sister to them.

Slow Ride is a slow burn to the road of passion and a HEA for opposites attract romance but often takes a quicker pace to danger. Slow Ride is full of romance and humor with just the right about of suspense.

I really enjoyed the first book in Lori Foster’s Driven to Distraction series, but unfortunately Slow Ride was too much like that first book with just a few differences to keep it from being an exact copy. While I liked the characters in this book, I found the heroine to be a bit over the top and the hero a bit too perfect. This one was a miss for me and it was a disappointing offer from one of my favorite authors.

If you love stories with badass women, this is your series! Ronnie is one tough independent woman. Like all of Lori’s leading men, Jack is so ALPHA, protective but still romantic and sweet. He gives Ronnie the independence she needs but still protective! There is romance and suspense, what a great combination. If you enjoy reading Lori Foster’s book, this book will not disappoint. I can’t wait for the next book! Another great read, Lori!

I liked this one better than the 1st one. Still don’t get the jobs they do but the romance and the conflict were better flushed out in this one.
Ronnie’s character was amazing , the confidence to hide her vulnerability was well written and believable.
The relationship between Howler and Peanut was so cute.

I got the ARC of this book as part of Lori’s review crew for a honest review

Ms Foster brings us back to the Crews brothers of Mustang Transportation, this time focusing on Jack and his unlikely lady Ronnie.
Jack and Ronnie (along with Jack’s family) were easy to like and it was a pleasure to watch Ronnie come out of her shell.
A suspense filled sub plot helped move the story along at a nice pace and was a great vehicle for Jack and Ronnie’s developing relationship.
The secondary cast is fairly small, primarily the Crews family and Ronnie’s employers. While this is a standalone read, the series is sequential meaning there are glimpses of Brodie and Mary from book 1 and we see a little more of other characters who will play a key role in book 3.
Slow Ride is an entertaining read that lived up to the expectations I have for Ms Foster’s work. The characters and situations are unique and I am looking forward to seeing what comes next.

I loved this thrilling and shocking story of Ronnie Ashford and Jack Crews. Author Lori Foster does an amazing job at creating relatable characters you become invested in and then she throws a few twist and turns along the way leaving you gripping on the edge of your seat.

Ronnie Ashford and Jack Crews could not be more different. Ronnie is rough around the edges, lacks family and roots, and she works alone. Jack, is smooth talking, wears suits, hes a family man and wears his heart on his sleeve.
When Ronnie is forced by her employer to get a partner, she never thought it would be Jack Crews. Along the way Ronnie and Jack are forced to rely on eachother as a matter of life and death, causing this book to be a real page turner.

I was given an advanced copy and this is my honest opinion.

I am loving this Road to Love series by Author Lori Foster! Slow Ride, the second book in the series, is Veronica “Ronnie” Ashford and Jack Crews’ bizarre story. Their first meeting is perfect! Then, their business relationship is complete craziness, and finally…their head-butting attraction is fantastic!

The jobs that Ronnie’s bosses, Drake and Drew, ask her to go on to collect “murderabilia” are so insane, and they want her to be safe so they have her hire Brodie and Jack’s business Mustang Transport to help. She drags her feet and tries to convince them they are not needed, but Jack is having none of that.

This is a crazy, fun, perfect read! The mystery, the love, the stubbornness, the characters, the animals…it all blends together to create a great story! I loved it and am looking forward to the third and final book in this series!

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.

There is just something about a formula book that you either love it or hate it. It's all personal preference. "Slow Ride" is exactly like Driven to Distraction, change a few names and some very minor details and you've got the same book. Not much to hold my interest, but definitely enough to tick me off. I'm only giving this one a point for the hot romance, Lori Foster can sure heat up the pages. Every other element that makes a great romance is a fail.

Ronnie Ashford is your cliché character heroine. Trouble with her family and she takes off only to end up in really deep doo-doo. She has a chip on her shoulder the size of a redwood, yet is soft hearted toward small animals and hot, strong males. She is all about being independent and prefers one-night stands as her sexual exercise.

Jack Crews is just looking for a burger and a brew. What he gets is a proposition he isn't going to refuse. Everything is great until someone calls out his name and the hot lady makes tracks and is gone with the wind. What the what?

The next morning Jack and Ronnie meet bad, but Jack takes the job because something about the woman has him more than curious. As they circle around each other and the off the charts sexual attraction, someone else is also circling Ronnie and his goal is not to get her into bed, his goal is murder.

How could you not love Jack and Ronnie? Ronnie is prickly but underneath that prickly exterior is a sweet woman. She has been handed a lot of grief during her life, but she gets back up and charges ahead. She is also distrustful of people and emotions. Afraid to ask for too much. She might be disappointed again. Jack is so sweet and loving. Comes from a loving family and knows what it is like to get unconditional love. Then there is Howler and Peanut. Love those two. When Jack agrees to a job, in spite of Ronnie's discouragement, she understands she is in big trouble. The more she knows him, the more she likes him and that can be dangerous for her. But there is a bigger danger stalking her and Jack will not let anyone or anything hurt her. He knows instantly that she is the one, he will just have to convince her of that and keep her safe. Will she let him?

This is a read you don't want to miss! With a quote like, "Goddammit, why did he have to be so freaking awesome in so many ways? Why couldn't he be a supreme dick or a sexist ass or...or at least not so good looking?" sets up a good conflict within the heroine. Ronnie is a woman who has been thrown some pretty hard curve balls, relying on herself and only herself, looking for a one-night stand but the sparks flew when Jack steps into and tries to protect her is something new for her. Jack is everything Ronnie didn't know what to do with, and he knows he wants to get to know her better. Fun story with great chemistry between Jack and Ronnie with suspense that will keep you glued to the book! My favorite quote: "God, every kiss with Jack was a revelation, as if each time she learned what kissing should be...but had never been before."
