So, I started reading this and I almost just stopped. I just kept thinking: this old plot again?

Um...I was wrong. This is a very different plot full of unexpected twists.

I still didn’t love it – but I didn’t hate it. My main issues were that I didn’t like the characters and I thought the plot was a bit..too too? I just never bought into it. But I sure was curious about how it all would end.

3.5 stars. The author managed to surprise me. I’d try the author again.

Lost You is the kind of book that took a couple of days to process after I finished reading it. The complexity of the story begins from the start, leading the me on a journey through some interesting twists and turns. Some of the twists made me ache for Anna, while others made me ache for Libby. The mysterious Mr. Kovak was also someone I grew to love and wanted to know more about. The ending was not what I expected and found myself wanting more of a resolution. It seemed to end too fast. I would highly recommend this book to other avid readers. Thank you to Net Galley for the opportunity to read the ARC..

Not generally my type of book (crime fiction) but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it, simply for what it was, and despite mentions of things like Facebook and Twitter (I might be old-fashioned but for some reason I always feel like it cheapens a story, but in this book it plays a big part so i'm not sure how you'd get around it). Not literature by any means, but a good page-turner. It's a quick read, something fun for vacation or on winter break.

Just when I thought I was enjoying a relatively dark thriller, it took a plunge into black hole-level darkness. And I loved it!

Libby and her son Ethan have a great bond and are excited to spend some time together on a much-deserved vacation. It’s apparent Libby has some reservations (aside from those at the hotel, heh) but she allows herself to let loose. Of course right when a mom lets herself relax is when things start to go very wrong...

I appreciated how Beck told the story, revealing details little by little to weave a complex story that comes down to a mother’s love... and a mother’s love.

I received an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Thanks to Haylen Beck, Crown Publishing, and NetGalley for providing me with a digital advance copy of this book.

Lost You is a twisty psychological thriller about two women fighting over a child that they both believe is rightfully theirs. This novel captured my interest quickly, but unfortunately, it didn’t work for me in the end. I found the characters unlikable and their actions hard to understand. Beck did a good job with a major plot twist that I did not see coming, but that was not enough to redeem the novel for me. Still, if you are looking for a quick read for the beach, this may be a good choice.

Libby and her three-year-old son Ethan take a trip to a relaxing Florida resort that ends with Ethan being kidnapped by another woman who claims that she's his real mother.

When the police begin investigating, it becomes clear that Libby has secrets of her own, and what follows is a twist-y psychological thriller about how the two women are connected—and which one is Ethan's real mother.

What appears at first to be a fairly straight-forward plot about a woman desperate for a baby and a shady surrogacy clinic becomes something even darker and sadder. The two women, Libby and Anna, are given sufficient character development to elicit sympathy for each of them, which is crucial to the success of the story.

As we delve into the past to uncover what first brought them together, we come to understand the motives and desires that cause them to make difficult and at times unforgivable choices. Ultimately, a mother's love for her child is stronger than anything, and it's compelling to see what happens as this instinct kicks in for both characters.

Ultimately, this was...fine. It held my attention and was a very fast read. I personally prefer my thrillers to be more literary, but if you crave a decent genre read this will certainly do.

I read a lot of thrillers and mysteries, and get frustrated with the same plot again & again. When this book started, I thought I knew what the out come would be. Then, a little detail, a little thought and i realized i was wrong. Every time i thought i kmg few the outcome, there was a change up & i was left guessing, grasping. I finally just let myself be taken on the ride & i'm so glad I did. I didn't see the finale at all, I was eagerly reading the next page & couldn't stop!
What a thrill ride! Wish i could read it all over again for the first time! I don't often give out 5 stars, and am debating on this one, but i think I'll go for 4.5 rounded up.

Many thanks to net gallery, author & publisher for this amazing ride!

Libby needs a break. Three years ago her husband split, leaving her to raise their infant son Ethan alone as she struggled to launch her writing career. Now for the first time in years, things are looking up. She's just sold her first novel, and she and Ethan are going on a much-needed vacation. Everything seems to be going their way, so why can't she stop looking over her shoulder or panicking every time Ethan wanders out of view? Is it because of what happened when Ethan was born? Except Libby's never told anyone the full story of what happened, and there's no way anyone could find her and Ethan at a faraway resort . . . right?

Great fast paced read with well developed characters. It had some disturbing moments that made me cringe. Also the ending of the book felt a bit rushed however it was a solid plot and an excellent book!

I'm not quite sure what I was expecting, but I know this wasn't it. It starts off intense and gripping. Libby loves her son Ethan and is very attentive, but all it takes is the blink of an eye to lose him. So what's going on?! Who is this woman who has Ethan and how is she his mother?! The book was even okay when we learned about Anna, but as that story went on I began to lose interest fast. The story is more focused on something else, something I'm completely not interested in. I found it repetitious and unbelievable. I started skimming. I did read the twist, that was well done. The ending seemed rushed. If I had've known a bit more about what was going on before requesting this I wouldn't have bothered.

This is the first book I have read by Haylen Beck and I could not put it down. This was a quick weekend read for me as the action didn't stop. I loved the way the book was written, alternating between Anna and Libby. My only (slight) criticism would be that I didn't find 3-year-old Ethan's speech realistic. Through his words, I imagined him being older. Haylen Beck will certainly be on my list of authors to read!

This is the story of two mothers, both claiming they are the rightful mother of the same little boy, This psychological thriller has twists and turns that have you turning pages to see how things work out. Libby, a soon to be published author is headed on a vacation at the encouragement of her publisher, with her three year old son Ethan. Libby is a single parent and when she and Ethan arrive at the resort, she is thrilled to have made the trip. Ethan is also excited and he keeps running away from her at the resort and is especially excited by all the buttons in the elevator. They connect with some other visitors and are having a wonderful time, until after a fun night, Ethan once again, jumps into the elevator and pushes buttons and before she can stop it, the elevator doors close and Ethan is off on his ride. One that ends with him having vanished and Libby coming apart at the seams. Libby had turned her life upside down to have this child. She had done some things she was not proud of, to have this child. When they catch site of Ethan on the CCTV at the hotel, he is being led away by someone else. When Libby catches sight of who this someone is, her whole world crashes at her feet. She knows this woman.... someone from her past that she thought she would never see again.

What would you do to have your little boys in your arms? This book shows what two women do out of the desperation they feel, and how lives are forever altered as a result. This is a gripping book, with some components which you might want to question, as far as reality goes, but suspend your disbelief and hang on for the ride. This is a page turner if you are able to do that. It was hard to put down and thus was started and finished in less than 24 hours.

A fast-paced suspenseful read told from the view points of two different women who fiercely want to become a mother. There's Anna who lives a hard life and there's Libby who lives a more privileged one. Anna, in need of money, signs up to be a surrogate mother. Libby, who can't have children, pretends to be pregnant while waiting for Anna's baby.

Anna changes her mind and after she delivers takes the baby and tries to start a life. Libby cannot let go of her promised baby and tracks Anna down but she goes too far to get the baby back.

Three years later it's Anna's turn to track down Libby for the sole purpose of getting her child. Only it's not her child!

This was a great read with many twists and turns. I did not give it 5 stars because I felt like the ending was a bit rushed and not believable (for me).. I don't think that given her strong will, determination and feistiness that Anna would have taken her own life. Some might argue that she lost her mind and that her suicide was the only way for her to find peace.

This was an interesting, fast-paced book that was perfectly fine but never truly "did it for me" for some reason. I felt that the end was tied up rather quickly and I wanted more of the "current day" story. I did enjoy learning more about black market surrogacy. All in all this story was just deeply sad. My heart broke for Anna but also for Libby. She completely snapped and the desperation broke my heart. Solid 3 star read.

Thank you to Net Galley for this book. All opinions are my own.

I suspense novel that grabbed me at the start. Definitely some twists and turns along the way. The characters were well developed however they didn't really resonate with me.

This is a story that reminds me of the passage in the Bible where Moses offers to cut the baby in half. And the woman who is the real mother says,”no, please; let her have the child.” And the woman who rolled over her baby in bed, killed it, who was desperate for a child, said halve the babe. The real mother cared more for the Childs life then sharing the babe.
Anna is the real mother in this situation, a surrogate, who develops feelings for the baby she’s carrying respite heavy threats by Libby’s Mr Fix It Man.

The story flip flops between each woman and continues to unfold until they eventually meet face to face and the tragedies that follow.

Please read this book. While unsettling it is a decent mystery and very thought provoking.

3/5 stars.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.*

Lost You is the first book by Haylen Beck that I have read, and I will definitely look for more!

Another in a long string of psychological thrillers that I seem to be bingeing lately, Lost You is the story of Libby Reese, a young woman struggling with infertility, seemingly growing mad through her obsession with having a baby. The story flashes back and forth from the days of her fertility struggles that lead to insurmountable marital issues, to her life as a single mother to 3-year-old Ethan.

It's unclear how she finally became a mother to Ethan, but there is definitely a mystery and a secret that Libby desperately needs to keep. Libby takes Ethan on a vacation and befriends a childless gay couple who make it their mission to entertain Ethan and show Libby a good time (this part of the story seems perhaps the most far-fetched to me). One evening, Libby has a few too many drinks and loses sight of Ethan as he takes off into the elevator. The doors close before she can get to him and what ensues is a resort-wide search for Ethan resulting in a dead man, a suicidal woman and even more mystery.

Plenty of suspense in this one, and despite my reading far too many of this genre lately, Haylen Beck served up a great twist and surprised me! I enjoyed it and would definitely recommend! I'll be looking for more from Haylen Beck.

Absolutely loved this book! Couldn't put it down until it was finished. Will definitely be recommending to customers at my work!

This was a very good psychological suspense thriller. It deals with surrogacy and the mental toll it can take on a woman. It is a story of surrogacy gone terribly wrong, of two women who insist that each is the "real" mother. It was a horrific, distorted, work of psychological suspense. As the story unwinds, there are many surprises, twists and turns that make this an enjoyable read. It held my interest and kept pulling me back into the story. I was fortunate to receive this novel from Netgalley as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.
