Blood is going to spill … I just hope it won’t be mine. Someone is trying to incite a war and pit the shifter Pack and the vampire Coven against one another. If war breaks out, humanity won’t survive. And I can’t let that happen. My boss doesn’t want me to get involved. It’s too dangerous. But I’m a mercenary and I’ve been hired to find whoever it is that's leaving a trail of bodies in their wake. In a search that takes me through the maze of shifter hierarchy and the depths of the paranormal underworld, these killers underestimate how determined I am to protect my city. Yes, blood will spill. And it'll be theirs.
This anthology is the first three books in the author’s blood and magic series. We follow Aria through a new threat in her city as well as new alliances. I really loved this series. So much so that I joined Kindle Unlimited to read the next took stories in the series. My biggest disappointment is that the 6th, and final, book in this series is supposed to be out some time this year but has yet to be released and I can’t find any info on when this will happen. I highly recommend!

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I have been reading a little more urban fantasy so it was no surprise I found this series. I love Aria she is a very interesting character. She is not a character that everything goes her way, but she does her moments that make me laugh and others that I worry about her. I like books that take me through a several stages emotions as I got through them. These first three book did just that. I would love to read the rest and I have heard there is a spin off series as well. Looking forward those as well.

I wasn’t sure I would enjoy this book when I started reading. The language suggests it’s aimed more YA fiction but I did get into the story. I found the main character very likeable albeit a little amazed at the random love interest(s), with no real substance and commitment to one (love) story line. I normally love this genre of film and tv but not so much reading but I’m already getting the next instalment of blood and magic as I enjoyed it so much

A good, solid urban fantasy series that will take the reader into a world where the heroine has to make tough choices and live with the consequences. She doesn't whine or moan about unfairness, just gets the job done. If there happens to be a good looking guy or two along the path...what's the harm? This 3 book set is a great way to binge read a long weekend away. The stories move quickly with great interaction between characters and enough action to keep you turning pages. I'll definitely look for more books by this author.

There is no denying that there are similarities to other series, but I don't necessarily find that to be a bad thing. This isn't a rehashing of another series, though it does have similar world building. If you hold that against an author though, then you are seriously limiting yourself on what you can read. Overall, I found this to be a fun, fast paced ride, and I will definitely be moving on to the next one.

If you love books where the girl falls in love with the alpha and becomes his mate, then you will love this book. I, for one, am tired of that kind of storyline and was excited because the chemistry between Aria and James was incredible. The best part was that James is the Hunter, not the Alpha which made it feel more original in my opinion until Declan shows up who happens to be the Alpha and I did not like the chemistry between Aria and Declan. It felt forced.
The books had so much potential if it were not for the discrepancies between the books and the fact that the only relationships that felt natural with Aria were with James, Mike, and Marion. I don't get why women always need to be paired with the alphas or betas like does it make them less worthy and robust if they are not mated to the most influential role in the packs?

2.5 stars for the books as a whole, but if it were the first book it would be 3.5 stars. If Declan were not in it, the books would have been at least a 4.5.

Who doesn't love a paranormal book that is entertaining, easy to read and full of vamps and wolves. This book series is such a joy to read for me, the author did a fantastic job building up and developing the main characters and plots for the story. The book was fast paced, full of magic and mayhem and possibly a few kisses throw in. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to write about this book and enjoy the pages.

This one hit a little more in the middle of the road for me. Good characters and a decent plot. Just not what I was expecting.

I received an advanced reader's copy of Blood & Magic Series (Books 1-3) by Danielle Annett from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I had never read anything by Danielle Annett before this, but I was very pleasantly surprised and pleased to find a new author/series to follow.

The good: I found the novel to be well written and the dialogue between the characters (primary characters as well as secondary) was entertaining and fact paced. The protagonist, Aria Naveed, is strong in her own right from power (pyrokinetic) to mental/moral fortitude and the world the author created is engrossing. Also, the publisher's summary gets a thumbs up - great way to whet the reader's interest.

The bad: my main critique is that it does bear a strong resemblance to the Kate Daniels novels.

Crossroads of Bones (A Katie Bishop Novel Book 1) Kindle Edition
by Luanne Bennett
I received a complimentary copy via NetGalley and am choosing to leave a fair and honest review.

I am huge fan of Urban Fantasy, particularly when it involves a hip and strong heroine with cool supernatural powers. Dragon shifter, Katie Bishop x's all my boxes!

Katie is a dragonshifter tattoo artist who finds herself in the land of Hoodoo (not to be confused with Voodoo) and root magic in Savannah, Georgia when she mistakenly releases Legvu from his prison. She has to team with the local magical council to stop him from releasing his second soul and put him back where he belongs. She is also a sexually aware, adult woman who isn't afraid to have sex without a commitment or a declaration of love. It's nice to see that! It's also nice to not have to put up with the shy but spunky virgin!

Her love interest, Jackson Hunter, is more than your average guy. He is a hot biker on the run from a catshifter family, so when he finds his woman becomes a dragon, we aren't forced through the acceptance phase.

The side characters are interesting, and far from common. The transgender Star is fantastic although I did have a few teeth grinding moments when Star was referred to as 'a man in a dress' because that is clearly not correct. I love Star's hoodoo granny who is delightfully anti-PC and more powerful than anyone realizes. The tattoo shop team is great but their uniqueness is a bit forced.

Hoodoo (a folk magic centered in the American South, Appalachians and Ozarks) is the main focus here, something we don't see a lot of in paranormal literature. I also enjoyed the layers of mythology and magic floating in this book. For instance, Legvu has more than a passing relationship with Papa Legba, the voodoo lwa of the crossroads.

Although the climax was a bit disappointing (it felt as if Ms. Bennett had reached a word limit and was wrapping things up quickly) the book all in all is fun.

3 ½ stars rounded up to 4 out of 5

Blood & Magic (Volume 1) written by Danielle Annett. The Volume is a total of her first three books in this series.

Cursed by Fire (book 1), Kissed by Fire (book 2), and Burned by Fire (book 3)

This book had me hooked from the beginning. Aria (Ari for short) is a kick a** female lead. She kept me wanting to know more about her and about what she is capable of doing.

This is the first book I have read from Danielle Annett, but I can promise it will not be the last. I recommend this series to anyone who loves adventure, paranormal, and romance.

While I really enjoyed the series, I feel compelled to only give it 2 stars. Odd I know but here’s why. First, there are three books but they are all really short. In total under 550 pages on my kindle, making all three books feel like one. I also didn’t like the way the kindle set was edited. There was no demarcation between books. There are 70 chapters, and since the books end in cliffhangers (which I also don’t like) one book fades into the next. My final and main issue is that this book is a blatant rip off of the Kate Daniels series. Which is also why I like it.

I am a huge Kate fan, and although it ended on a high note I was sad to see it end. This series is thinly veiled fan fiction. Both women start off in their 20′s and are half middle eastern and half european. Both are muscular and not typically pretty. Both lose a parent at a young age, as one parent is trying to keep the child from the evil clothes of the other. Both live in a world that recently had to adjust to magic and magical creatures and is semi post apocalyptic. Both have a non human snarky female bestie. Both live in small cities and run their own agency, because local authorities don’t handle “magic stuff”. Both are mated to a feline shifter of incredible strength that also happens to be Alpha of the largest conjoined packs in the country. I could go on, but you get the point. Switching genders, cities, and animals here and there make this one step above really good fan fiction.

Will I continue with this series? That depends. The next book is only 175 pages, so if another boxed set is released and Ilona Andrews doesn’t hit Danielle with a cease and desist than I will. Because I miss Kate and this is a good alternative.

Forget binge watching, you'll be binge reading with this series! I went on to get the next ones so I'm all caught up and wanting MORE.

My only quibble - and it really is a quibble - was the tedious "who will she end up with" when you not only KNOW who its going to be, but had to get through the ridiculous "but I dont even LIKE him, how can I love him" thing. SO over done! Thankfully, we get that over with fairly quickly, and I am HOOKED on this, and intend to get others hooded as well. WELL DONE Danielle! And thank you for making a booksellers job easy!

I completely loved being caught up in Aria’s tale. Vampires, shifters and witches Oh MY! Annett writes a fascinating story of a world where magic has broken through and then it broke the world. Now it’s a fight for survival.

Blood & Magic is a the combination of the first three books in the Blood & Magic series and once you read straight through book 1 – 3 you will do exactly what I did…I went and one clicked CONSUMED BY FIRE.

I received this copy of BLOOD & MAGIC: VOLUME ONE - BOOK 1 - 3 from Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This is such an amazing series!!! I love the story line and the characters!! The character development so far is great! This is a must read for sure!

The first three books in the Blood & Magic series packed into one really hooked me. Reminiscent of the Katie Daniel series, but with enough extras to make it unique. Aria Naveed is a pyrokinetic in a world of shifters and vampires. She’s a wisea$$, butt kicking, at times annoying heroine that you’ll come to root for. This series has everything that I want in a book. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
