This is a great manga to follow up the novel. I enjoyed the adaptation and getting to see my favorite characters. The manga sticks close to the series.

I absolutely adore everything put out by Harlequin Manga and I will definitely continue to request and read these manga in the future. Gena Showalter is also one of my favourite authors and seeing my beloved characters in manga form was divine.

My dislike of this book is not the story, and not the art, but the way the two combine together. The story seems so rushed. The details are missing. It feels like YA instalove. Plus I really don't care for how the artist has placed what seems like random boobs on various pages. And they are not there because it’s a love scene. For example one of the characters seems to be watching porn, but it has nothing to do with anything else. I know this is just the first volume in what will probably be a 4-6 book series, but there are still just so many questions. It has large holes, that I don’t expect to be answered as the series moves on. This is a Showalter book I have not read yet, but the manga has made me more interested in picking up the original book. Plus, You can tell this has been translated. First off original publication year is 2011, and while thought and speech bubbles have been put back into English, the side graphics, exclamations, etc have not. I didn’t have high hopes for this going in, but I still wanted it to be better. I think this story may be too complicated for its current form.

I was not able to open this file so I wasn't able to review the title. The encrypted file did not work and I was not able to access, read or review the title. I have read the actual book and I do love it very much. I just wasn't able to read this Manga version of it. I would have liked to though.

This book was provided by the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Harlequin and Netgalley!

The Darkest Night Part 1 is the first part of The Darkest Night, the first book in the Lords of the Underworld series. The Darkest Night tells the story of Ashlyn and Maddox.

I've read the first three books in the Lords of the Underworld series and one novella, and I love the story and the characters. When I discovered this manga on Netgalley, I just had to read it. I loved every bit of it and I cannot wait to read part 2!

Harlequin romance manga comics are like my romance catnip. Gorgeous illustrations. Romantic stories. Just all around beautiful. And quite often, the comics make me want to go back and read the books too. I think for me, the comics serve a purpose of illustrating a beautiful story and bringing it to life with wonderful illustrations. It's also a teaser and taste of the story it often makes me want to take in the original story for more depth and detail. Between the book and the manga comic, they are a winning combination. And yes, I know, my review of the manga comics are often the same but it's mostly the case because they often get the same reaction from me. Thank you for this wonderful medium in delivering romance to a dedicated reader.

Love this manga so much by Gena Showalter. I’m still new to this genre and I’m learning more every time I read one. I really enjoyed the writing in this one more and the characters seemed more thought out and original. I also liked the story line better and the fact that it had more concept in it that wasn’t just based on a woman’s gender roles and beauty. Thank you so much for that.

I haven't read the series on which this manga is based, but I liked this adaptation. It ends with a cliffhanger, but this often happens with comics and probably also with Manga.
It's a very romantic and a fast-paced page-turner, you can read it in one sitting.
I'm looking forward to reading the next volume of this series.

I read the book by Gena Showalter and I love the series. This only a part of the book and does not illustrate the entire book. The illustrations were amazing and I can't wait to read the next part.

I could not open this pdf, so I can't review it. And it may even be in Japanese, I'm not sure, but the link send me to netgalley Japan. However I have read this in English before, and I loved it. The artwork was beautiful. I'm not sure why they are broken into 2 parts. I've only read part one and I loved it, but I love this series in general.
I don't want to post a review on Got Fiction? because I may be wrong on what's inside, since I couldn't open it.
if it is the same content, and it is in English, please feel free to let me know, and I'll write up a review based on the one I bought. Thank You.

The first book in a paranormal series about fallen Titans, this manga will keep you hooked with its intense plot, deep yearning of two individuals who fall in love despite their different nature, and incredible art. I am usually not much into paranormal , but this series deserves being the exception. Highly recommended.

Book title : Lords of Underworld- The Darkest Night part I: a Harlequin Manga

Author : Gena Showalter; Illustrator : Earithen

Release Date : 27 September 2013

I read Gena Showalter’s Lord of Underworld super long time ago and started it with this book. Telling a story about Aislyn, Maddox and how their encounter brings a new aspect of the storyline. I personally adore Gena Showalter for thinking such an idea to write. The combination between Greek Mythology twisted in a modern life is so entertaining. The portrayal of several sexy scenes also adds the exhilaration of the story. Anyhow, seeing the story in manga-style is such a happy thing for me. It helps me to portray the characters and the plot. I know it is only the first part of Aislyn and Maddon’s story and it is disappointing. Yet it is also understandable because the story in the novel is super long and the illustrator defo needs to break it down into several chapters. Ah, it is defo a manga-style romance one should read.

A fantastic read

An engaging book i highly recommend
The story follows a young girl who has the power to hear people's thoughts, she meets a stranger one day while looking for 'angels' and the voices stop. Who is he and why does he captivate her.?

The plot is an interesting one, its a retelling of Pandora and the box. The only problem i had reading this was the art., i could not see how the demons looked like however everything else was okay.

If you are looking for a quick read enjoyable read this would be perfect.

I love Gena Showalter. I love Manga. What a perfect combination. This is a great introduction to her books for anyone who hasn't read them before and one of my favourite series too. It is adapted well, the only criticism being as it is a manga you lose a lot of the details I loved, but because it's manga you can't do much about that. The art work is lovely and I loved the character design of the men in the book, just wasn't as keen on the main character design.

Hm. This was okay, I guess?
The art was fine, but I didn’t love it, and the pacing seemed kinda off at points.
The “heroine” (I’m using the term freely here) gave off some tstl vibes, which made her annoying.
Also, the woman has legs, Maddox, stop carrying her!
In the end, this manga wasn’t too bad and fans of the original book might enjoy it, but I wouldn’t recommend it as a standalone piece.

I read the Lord's of the Underworld series several years ago and this is the story that started it all. Such a magical idea to combine Greek mythology with a modern day setting all whilst adding extremely hot romance. Seeing that there's a manga version had me very curious and my feelings are a little mixed if I'm honest.
Ok first what I liked about this book was the way the artist took the salient points and imbued them with life. Maddox might not be exactly as I imagined him in looks but he's most definitely big, dark, brooding and capable of great violence. Ashlyn however was exactly what I'd carried around in my head and indeed this story without doubt revolved around her thoughts and actions which came to life in the artwork.
So what disappointed me ? Well the obvious is that I hadn't realised this would stop about half way through the story so it's left as a cliff hanger. I didn't really see just how dangerous and very different the other Lords are although salute the artist for a vivid Lucian and also for showing just how Paris continually tries to appease his demon of promiscuity .
My final thoughts are it was a great idea and clearly can bring new readers to this authors work. It kept the pace fast and there was never a dull moment as I quickly turned the pages. Manga can suffer from being too stylized but I found the drawing here to be vivid and engaging . I just hate cliff hangers which is a personal thing.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Ms. Showalter writes stories which has something in itself. Add manta layer to it with beautiful drawings and I'm done.
The story followed really well First part of The Book. Now I can't wait to grab the second part.

There's a hidden world in Budapest. And it's not normal.

24-year-old Ashlyn has been born with incredible abilities: she can hear all conversations around her from past and present. So, when she bumps into a castle where the voices in her head quiet down, she is determined to find out why. But the castle is not inhabited by angels, as legends say. It's inhabited by Guardians, cursed with inner demons. But even that isn't enough to keep her away from the handsome, mysterious Guardian who keeps his secrets at bay - and the feeling is mutual.

Dark, mysterious, and with generous amounts of romance, The Darkest Night is an interesting read that combines adventure, fantasy and mystery. This is the first chapter of the story, and it's absolutely worth the read - especially if you're a fan of the original book.
