Betty Church in 1939 has been sent to Sackwater in Suffolk with a promotion to Inspector. Where she meets her motley crew of police officers but this is also the place where she grew up. It doesn't take long before she discovers her first body.
Unfortunately I just didn't get the humour of the book, I expect it would be enjoyed by most people but humour is subjectivec and I just found it tedious and trying.
So overall this new series is not for me.

If you want a humorous mystery, this book is for you. An easy read. It's an interesting mystery. At times, it's a little silly. Overall an okay read.

Wonderful reading and a great start to a new series, this is a must for fans of the Gower Street Detective and for those who like Golden Age pastiche with a lot of humour.

Betty is a great creation, a strong woman in a man's world, fighting her corner in the chauvinistic climate of 1930's England.

Thoroughly enjoyable, although it is a long book of short chapters. Looking forward to the next.

Thank you to NetGalley and Head of Zeus for the digital review copy.

I was sooo happy when I got this copy, and all my thanks to the publisher for that!!!....but sadly it wasn't "my book". I tried but couldn't get into it, the writing "didn't let me in" or gripped my interest, and neither did the female lead.... I gave up after a while. Reading/books are always such a subjective matter, and I hope the book will find many others who see it differently. Therefore I won't post this review on GR, as I normally do.

This is the first title I've read by this author and is the first novel in a spin off series from their Gower Street Detective Series.

Betty Church is invalided out to the sleepy village of Sackwater where she grew up following an incident in which she lost her hand whilst on a case with the Metropolitan police.

The village is populated with a collection of eccentric and comical characters which includes the various members of the Suffolk constabulary.

The book reminds me of the style used in the Lestrade novels by M.J.Trow which I read many years ago and compares very favourably.

If you like quirky characters and puns then this is the ideal book to keep you entertained. The whodunit keeps you guessing right to the very end and it is written in a flowing style that allows you to lose yourself in the story

All in all this was a very entertaining humorous murder mystery.

Items not Included in review on blog - My only concern with this book were the sheer quantity of 'quirky' characters that at times could be a little annoying especially Dodo and the twins.

I was delighted with the chapter names which whilst being interesting and accurate did nothing to give away what was going to happen next.

It was OK, and I did finish the entire, very long, book.

Betty Church and the Suffolk Vampire by M.R.C. Kasasian features Betty Church as one of the first women Detective Inspectors in 1939. After losing part of her arm, Betty leaves the Metropolitan Police for her home village in Suffolk. Expecting little activity in the sleepy backwater village, she becomes entangled with a number of strange murders.

I found the characters all a bit too eccentric for my taste. Betty is the only one who has any common sense--all the others are caricatures. Her constables are annoying in their idiocy, her boss has PTSD, her parents are clueless and irritating, and Dodo Chivers is exasperatingly tiresome.

Had it been shorter and not trying so hard, I might have liked it better.

This book was great!
I was first attracted to the author but the plot and the character depth really aided the novels progression. I just think sometimes the story lacked some depth in areas, and I would have liked further explanation. Thank you!

I requested this for error as I really liked it and thought it was a new instalment in a series.
I can only confirm what I already wrote: this book is amazing full of humour and a real page turner,
I loved the historical background and i liked the cast of characters, Betty above all.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to Head of Zeus and Netgalley for this ARC
