Really enjoyed this book. Great plot and engaging, believe characters. I was drawn right into the story. Would definitely recommend.

This is the second book in the Haunted Salon Series. It is a fun, light, cozy mystery. Jolene owns a beauty salon in Whiskey Creek. The Whiskey Creek Pecan Festival is about to get underway. While most of the girls are in the salon for updos and manicures, Harland and Theo Herrington get into a physical fight. Later at the queen pageant another brawl ensues. Later at the pecan pie contest, Theo has a serious allergic reaction and dies. Clearly, Jolene’s father, Harlan, is the main suspect. Jolene must find the real killer while solving another mystery from decades ago. Several people help her with her quests. Only these are no longer alive.

This is an entertaining book with several romantic relationships that may or may not last. Jolene and her family are funny with secrets of their own. Jolene’s ability to see ghosts is a huge advantage in solving Theo’s murder. Some of the ghosts are murder victims from the previous book, Dixieland Dead. They are humorous as they continue to get on Jolene’s nerves. It is always helpful to have read Book 1 but is not necessary to enjoy this book.

I received an ARC from the Wild Rose Press, Inc. through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book.

Princess Fuzzypants here:: I get early copies of books to read and give an honest review and I take my responsibilities seriously even though I am a Maine Coon cat. That is why I must point out something egregious that slipped by both author and editor. Every time the character used the word LIABLE, it was printed LIBEL. I found it amusing because I enjoyed the book and the characters. Others with a literary bent might have found it annoying. As a reader of ARC’s, I am used to gaffes and glitches but this one was clearly a mistake.
Too bad because it marred what turned out to be a fun romp complete with Civil War buffs, a hairdresser who speaks to ghosts, a very haunted Antebellum plantation deep in Georgia and massacre and stolen Confederate gold. Jolene’s family is colourful to say the least so the interwoven plot lines with the murder victim and the other spectral mysteries Jolene is asked to solve do not come off as contrived. Some stories that want to blend humour with the mystery try too hard. This one flows. There is even some spicy scenes to add interest to the storyline.
It would not be libellous to say that I am liable to pick up another book by this author. I do have to deduct a half point and only give it four and a half purrs and two paws up.

Unfortunately, I requested this book, but didn't get to read it before it was archived. I wish I had gotten to it.

What a crazy family! Love the interactions between the sisters, the parents, and the family unit as a whole. It’s often times hard to work with family members, but these ladies make it work. That beauty salon is a hot mess! It’s better than a bar for finding out secrets and gossip. Just when you think you have all the answers another question pops us. I enjoyed the story and was entertained by the characters. I hope I can hang with them again sometime. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.

I didn't read the first in this series however, it didn't seem to matter. The setting and mystery is wonderful! I loved it. There aren't people in this book that aren't there for a reason. I love reading about ghost. It keeps you guessing until the end.

This is book 2 in the Haunted Salon series and is easily a stand alone read. I love books where ghosts and people interact. This is a prime example of the ghostly cozy book. Jolene and her friends and sister are trying to bake a Pecan Pie to enter into the Whiskey Creek pie competition. When the judge and local bank president drops dead after eating their pie, her dad is arrested and becomes the prime suspect. With the help of Scarlet and several ghost at the local historic plantation she solves the crime before the killer succeeds in killing anyone else. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

a good story overall, and the second in the series. I read this one first before the first one, and basically didn't have any trouble following the story. One thing i did find a bit annoying, and this might just be me, but considering she is in her late 30s, almost 40, she seems a little childish in her actions to Sam, the hunky cop. I didn't see any real emotions there anyway besides lust, but didn't see much of that either. I enjoyed i enough though and wanted to see who the killer was, plus wrapping up the mystery of the ghosts. Enjoyed it enough to start reading the first book too, Dixieland Dead, which is helping to explain who Scarlett the ghost is, and the relationship with her. Would recommend if you like snarky southern women and ghosts.

Love this book!
I have not read the first of the series, but was enthralled from the very first start.
This book has no-nonsense characters with southern charm and always getting in trouble.
There are two mysteries to solve: a murder and an old secret that is holding a ghost from moving on to the afterlife.

Utterly Deadly Southern Pecan Pie by Penny Burwell Ewing is the 2nd The Haunted Salon mystery series, and it was as good as the first book. Jolene is the manager of her family's hair salon in Whiskey Creek, Georgia. Jolene is staying busy giving tours at the Pineridge Plantation, where she runs into a ghost who wants her help solving a mystery. On top of that when the bank president dies after eating pie at the bake-off, Jolene's father is the prime suspect, she leaps into action. I really enjoyed this funny cozy mystery, and am looking forward to the next book in the series. If you are looking for a unique and fun read, I recommend this book.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Wild Rose Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Part of a series, but reads well as a stand alone. I found this to be a little slow, but I still enjoyed it. I didn't like the ending but you never know. I give it 3.5 stars. I thing most cozy mystery readers will enjoy.

I enjoyed the mystery and the setting. However, the main female character, Jolene, was too preoccupied with men and sex for me (but there were not any sex scenes). The side characters were Jolene parents and sisters. I'm so used to cozy's where if the main character has kid(s) they are the side characters, this was a real change of pace as her daughter and grandchild were barely mentioned and when they were it tended to throw me for a loop. Probably if I had read the first book in the series, I might have been prepared for it. I am willing to give the next book a try if it comes my way. .

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Entertaining, enjoyable mystery with loveable quirky character, a sisterly bind, and a few ghosts thrown in. Loved the double mystery in this book, first time reading this author, but interested in more.

A nice and entertaining cozy mystery.
I love the likable cast of characters and the setting.
The mystery was good, no plot hole, and kept me guessing till the end.
Recommended!
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC

I definitely enjoyed this book better and the first one. It's smoother, incorporates the ghosts nicely, and just seems like a tighter plot. I loved the history part of the story. #UtterlyDeadlySouthernPecanPie #NetGalley

This is the first time I have read from this offer. This is a cozy mystery that was certainly entertaining. It seemed that trouble followed the character Jolene everywhere :) If you like corny, funny cozy mystery books, this one is for you.

Book is too predictable. Reads like a combination of required elements in an American cozy mystery. I would not seek out other titles by this author.
