There are good things and better things about this book. I liked the history, some of the theories, and the concept of the long time family history. Their name is a clue.

Sometimes the writing and dialogue is a blit clunky and doesn't wringing true. I suspect some editing and more time writing will make a difference,

I stuck with it, and did like the story. Give it a try.

The Patriarch Rising by Aaron Malavolti is an historical, conspiracy inspired novel about ancient Rome, Israel and Italy. Although it aims to be a thriller in the genre of Dan Brown and Steve Berry, it is more a telling of historical facts and might-possibly-have-been theories.

I enjoyed this book immensely, for the history lessons on ancient Rome and the theory put forward regarding bloodlines in the bible. Mr. Malavolti has obviously done an enormous amount of research and this certainly adds credibility to the story and makes for fascinating reading. It really drew me in and kept me intrigued. I found this reading captivating. However, the action / thriller part of the book was almost a side story.

I found the personas of Michael and Vivi to be quite immature and their dialogue jilted most of the time. I would have liked to see more personal development in both these characters. Perhaps the novels that follow might see a maturing of these two characters as well as a more comfortable relationship develop between them.

This book definitely receives my recommendation and I look forward to reading the next installment.

I read about 10% of this before setting aside. It just didn't hold my attention--the topic has great potential, but the writing style just did not work for me.
